SPRINGFIELD-In a huge win for gun-rights groups, a federal appeals court in Chicago Tuesday tossed the state´s ban on carrying concealed weapons and gave Illinois´ Legislature 180 days to craft a law legalizing concealed carry. "The debate is over. We won. And there will be a statewide carry law in 2013," said Todd Vandermyde, a lobbyist for the National Rifle Association. Headline corrected and Link repaired by staff.

FTA: “Those people have a gun now. They’ve just been made criminals because they can’t legally have it. And the gang-bangers and thugs are gonna have a gun regardless,” he said.
>>> Interesting... as I was about to post this "FTA", the above quote is no longer in the article - it appears to have been removed just after I copied it.
But it´s clear that Mr. Brookins (?) who is quoted above, appears to have woken up and smelled the espresso.

Watch the Illinois legislature make it prohibitively expensive to have a concealed weapons permit.
Late breaking news: Mayor Bloomberg has entered into a debilitating pout over this ruling, because he knows liberalized concealed weapon permits are coming to his city.

The Land of Lincoln is still the Land of Corruption! This will be laden with so much paperwork it will be totally non-workable.
Hey Judge, can you, at the same time, limit the states paperwork to a 2 minute exercise, then permit must be issues on the spot (after a 10 second background check)!

It will be arbitrary "may issue", not objective criteria "shall issue" and will probably cost a fortune. Or maybe put it theoretically on the books and just NEVER issue any.
Look at Hawaii. Theoretically, CCW permits are available. NONE are EVER issued as a matter of policy. If you want one, tough.
Look at NYC. NY state CCW permits are not valid there, and it takes a bribe of about $5-10K (reports vary, no recent reports) to get one unless you are a celebrity or friend of some power player.

#16, that is certainly what they will try to do...but they have a problem. They either have to pass a CCW Bill, or in 181 days Constitutional Carry becomes legal in IL. Most likely the anti´s lack the votes to pass their version of a CCW Bill, so pro-gun forces have leverage to get a better Bill than they otherwise would expect to get. The Democrats, for once, will be the ones that have to compromise.

"The thoughts and prayers of the American people are with the families of all those who were killed and injured in the terrorist attack in Algeria," Obama said in his first comments on the hostage crisis. Conservative congressmen don´t question House Speaker John Boehner´s dedication to the cause. But as chaos overtakes GOP efforts to prevent a Jan. 1 tax hike, members do have doubts about his effectiveness. Here´s the latest turn of events: Over the summer, House Republicans passed a bill extending the Bush-era tax rates, which are set to expire, resulting in higher rates Jan. 1. That was Boehner´s Plan A. Senate Democrats said no, and so Boehner rolled out Plan B: extend current rates for all income below $1 million, and rein in Social Security spending.

Both Speaker John Boehner and media analysts have been spun into a state of confusion by the fiscal cliff issue and President Obama´s reelection. The fiscal cliff exists because the president and the GOP Congress could not decide in 2011 on a permanent general policy toward the budget. And now the president has added another factor: he is determined to usurp the Congressional authority to raise the debt ceiling. If the budget goes over the cliff, two things will happen: tax rates on everyone will rise, and across the board spending cuts will be made.

Earlier this year, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (ASO) decided to disinvite two predominantly white high school choral groups from performance in the ASO´s holiday concert. The ASO´s decision was reportedly motivated by the high schools´ lack of diversity, which caused a stir among people who believe in racial justice as opposed to racial favoritism. In the message he issued along with his budget proposal on Wednesday morning, President Barack Obama said he wants to see 4-year-old children in the United States enrolled in public schools. Obama said America needs to start enrolling 4-year-olds to make sure the children are “better prepared for the demands of the global economy” and to help parents save on "child-care costs." After saying the United States needs to “equip our citizens with the skills and training” to fill jobs in manufacturing, energy and infrastructure, Obama said, “And that has to start at the earliest possible age.”

In 2011, the journalist Mara Hvistendahl published Unnatural Selection: Choosing Boys Over Girls, and the Consequences of a World Full of Men, detailing the societal effects of sex-selective abortions that target women the world over and resulted in the absence of perhaps more than 100 million girls who by now should have been born. But Hvistendahl soon learned the downside to uncovering what many believe to be a shocking trend in human rights offenses: people will want to do something about it. And so she lashed out, declaring that “anti-abortion activists
