South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley (R) has finalized her shortlist of candidates to replace outgoing Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.), according to a source close to the governor. The list includes five Republican South Carolina politicians who are close to Haley: Rep. Tim Scott, Rep. Trey Gowdy, former state Attorney General Henry McMaster, former first lady Jenny Sanford and Catherine Templeton, a conservative attorney Haley has picked to head the state Department of Health and Environmental Control. One name notably not on the list: Rep. Mick Mulvaney (R-S.C.), who said last week he thought he was in the mix

For what it´s worth, I vote for Trey Gowdy. He really impressed me during the Benghazi hearings. Sharp mind and tongue to go with it.

Haley has repudiated this particular list; she says only her husband knows who´s on it.

She was supposed to hold a press conference on Scott´s district at noon today, but I haven´t heard anything else about it.

Jenny Sanford put a lot of money and work into Haley´s campaign and will expect to be rewarded.

Just my opinion but any woman who goes on nationwide TV several times, writes a tell-all book and splashes her domestic problems in several magazines too--all while her four sons are at various impressionable ages--is not fit to be a mother, let alone a senator.

SEPANG, Malaysia — Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 experienced significant changes in altitude after it lost contact with ground control, and altered its course more than once as if still under the command of a pilot, American officials and others familiar with the investigation said Friday. Radar signals recorded by the Malaysian military appear to show the missing airliner climbing to 45,000 feet, above the approved altitude limit for a Boeing 777-200, soon after it disappeared from civilian radar and made a sharp turn to the west, according to a preliminary assessment by a person familiar with the data. WASHINGTON— Democrats are grappling with an election-year dilemma posed by the Keystone XL oil pipeline. Wealthy party donors are funding candidates who oppose the project — a high-profile symbol of the political debate over climate change. But some of the party´s most vulnerable incumbents are pipeline boosters, and whether Democrats retain control of the Senate after the 2014 midterm elections may hinge on them. The dilemma was highlighted Thursday as President Barack Obama´s former national security adviser — and now a consultant to the oil industry — said Obama should approve the pipeline to send Russian President Vladimir Putin a

The Obama administration is seeking to maximize insurance coverage ahead of a March 31 deadline to sign up for private plans offered through the new exchanges created under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. About 4.2 million Americans enrolled in the plans through March 1, according to the government. A married gay couple in Ohio sued the state and federal government on Feb. 18 after they tried to buy a family policy through the federal health insurance exchange and were denied because Ohio doesn’t

While sitting in front of a portrait of George Washington Thursday, President Obama admitted that the average person might have to lose their doctor under his signature healthcare law. (Video) Obama’s statement is a 180 degree turn from the “If you like your doctor then you can keep your doctor” mantra that he so often repeated during his promotion of Obamacare before the law took effect on October 1. Obama asserted that those who don’t have “healthcare initially are going to have to make some choices and they might have to switch doctors.” Obama contended that they will be losing

The owner of a dump truck company who secured $3 million in city contracts was sentenced to 17 months in prison Thursday after he was convicted of acting as a minority “pass through” for another company that once had links to relatives of former Mayor Richard Daley. Jesse Brunt, 77, of Chicago, pleaded guilty in 2012 to a federal mail fraud charge for falsely reporting to the city of Chicago that his minority-owned business would do most of the sewer work on a city contract when in fact it didn’t. U.S. District Judge Milton Shadur also ordered Brunt and his now-defunct firm, Brunt Bros. Transfer Inc., to pay $533,749 in restitution,

The segment can be seen below, but Judicial Watch summarizes it: The segment focused on Lee County, which has a population of about 620,000 and Collier County with a population of around 322,000. The reporter spent about two months digging around the voter rolls in the two counties and the discoveries are dumbfounding. In that short time, more than 100 people registered to vote in those two areas were proven to be ineligible by the reporter.

Fertility is the missing chapter in sex education. Sobering facts about women’s declining fertility after their 20s are being withheld from ambitious young women, who are propelled along a career track devised for men. The refusal by public schools’ sex-education programs to acknowledge gender differences is betraying both boys and girls. The genders should be separated for sex counseling. It is absurd to avoid the harsh reality that boys have less to lose from casual serial sex than do girls, who risk pregnancy and whose future fertility can be compromised by disease. Boys need lessons in basic ethics and moral reasoning

US officials believe that two communications systems aboard Malaysian Airlines flight 370 were shut down separately, 14 minutes apart - which indicates the plane did not come down because of a sudden catastrophic failure.
