Despite turmoil, major lending

The United States and a coalition of international lenders are pushing ahead with billions of dollars in loans and other help for Egypt and neighboring states despite the region’s sometimes violent political turmoil, in hopes of heading off a destabilizing economic collapse. The risks involved in the effort have been on sharp display in Egypt in the clashes between protesters and forces loyal to President Mohamed Morsi, whose Islamist government must be trusted by the United States, the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank and others to deliver on commitments made in return for

Anytime a clinton is involved, you have to follow the money.

Is Huma the new Clinton bagman? Guaranteed some of this "loan money" will end up in the Clinton library.

Foreign aid to anti-American Islamists - shouldn´t it be coming from the Saudis, not the US?

You can always tell what the wrong choice is in any situation: it´s what Obama chooses.

I seriously doubt this is an international funding effort. It´s nothing but Uncle Ben putting in overtime at the printing press. This is exactly how liberals think, that all problems can be solved with money.Nobody in the middle east is directing traffic. It´s take a stab at something and see what happens.

Israel´s destruction isn´t happening fast enough for Obama and radical islam,so they think throwing money at them will speed things up.

There´s not going to be a self sustaining economy in Egypt with Morsi in charge,to pay the loans back,so they´re probably "forgivable loans".. These people(big islam) despise capitalism.Egypt´s main revenue sources are tourism and Suez canal tolls.Tourism went to hell after Obama overthrew Mubarak.

There´s really a huge parallel on what´s happening in Egypt and here. The people being thrown under the bus by the muslim brotherhood are the same as conservatives here under the Obama bus tires.

How Morsi deals with the detractors could be a precursor of how Obama eventually deals with reluctant Americans.

It’s a big weekend for the Bush family, which is enjoying a renaissance of sorts after several years in the political wilderness. Throngs of former administration officials, members of Congress and others descended Friday on College Station, Tex., to fete former president George H.W. Bush on the 25th anniversary of his arrival in office. One of the highlights of the weekend will be a live interview with his son, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, who has quietly been exploring a 2016 presidential campaign. About 180 miles to the north, former president George W. Bush is hosting an event of a

In 2008, Barack Obama and Brendan Eich both were against gay marriage. Senator Obama averred his support for the one-man/one-woman view of marriage, while Mr. Eich, a cofounder of the Mozilla web-browser company, donated $1,000 to support Proposition 8 — a California ballot initiative that had the effect of making Senator Obama’s avowed marriage policy the law in California, at least until a federal court overturned it on the theory that California’s constitution is unconstitutional. Oregon State University, disdaining responsibility for trashing distribution boxes that were intended for a politically conservative student newspaper, has still paid $1,000 plus $100,000 in legal fees after a former student, William Rogers, filed suit against them. The lawsuit, filed in 2009 by supporters of the newspaper The Liberty, contended that the university president and other school officials permitted the official campus newspaper access to distribution bins, but school officials removed the bins for The Liberty. The suit alleged that school officials confiscated distribution bins for The Liberty and tossed them onto a trash heap. The bins, which contained copies

House Republicans have scheduled a vote next week to hold Lois G. Lerner in contempt of Congress for refusing to testify about her role in the Internal Revenue Service’s tea party targeting scandal, setting up a major battle over constitutional rights versus Congress‘ ability to oversee the government. Rep. Darrell E. Issa, the House’s top investigator, said Thursday that as a senior official at the center of the IRS targeting, Ms. Lerner will either talk or face penalties for refusing to help the committee get to the bottom of who orchestrated the targeting and what the motives were. “Ms. Lerner’s

When has a secretary of state been involved in so many disastrous, self-initiated negotiations? First, John Kerry convenes — against all advice and holding no cards — Geneva negotiations to resolve the Syria conflict and supposedly remove Bashar al-Assad from power. The talks collapse in acrimony and confusion. Kerry’s response? A second Geneva conference that — surprise! — breaks up in acrimony and confusion. Then, even as Russian special forces are taking over Crimea, Kerry goes chasing after Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov — first to Paris, then Rome, then London — offering a diplomatic “offramp.” Lavrov shrugs him off.

When his aides get discouraged about the prospects for Middle East peace, Secretary of State John F. Kerry often bucks them up with a phrase: “Don’t be afraid to be caught trying.” But as his tireless efforts to broker Israeli-Palestinian negotiations hit bottom Thursday, with Israel’s cancellation of prisoner releases that were considered crucial to keeping the talks alive, there are some around Kerry — including on his senior staff and inside the White House — who believe the time is approaching for him to say, “Enough.” Kerry risks being seen as trying too hard at the expense of a

Prior to the ruling, there was a 123,200 limit ($48,600 for candidates and $74,600 in contributions to PACs) on the total amount a single donor could contribute in a two year federal campaign cycle. The ruling did not affect the existing $2,600 limit on the maximum donation to any Congressional campaign. ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Trying to put Obamacare’s problems behind him, President Obama renewed his election-year push for an increase in the minimum wage Wednesday and the White House urged fellow Democrats to latch on to the issue for their own political gain. Speaking at the University of Michigan, the president again fiercely advocated for a rise in the nation’s minimum wage, trying to keep the issue front and center as the November midterm elections creep closer. “In America, we don’t believe in opportunity for a few — we believe that everybody should have a chance at success,” Mr. Obama

President Obama campaigned in Michigan with Dem Senate candidate Gary Peters, making the case for a hike in the federal minimum wage to $10.10. Unfortunately, the wrangling in the Senate today suggests the idea is going to die. Senator Susan Collins has said she’s trying to craft a bipartisan compromise on the minimum wage that could win Republican support — a compromise that would require hiking the minimum wage to an unspecified point below the $10.10 per hour that Obama and Democrats want. Today Harry Reid ruled out the idea, insisting that Dems won’t agree to anything below $10.10. In

THE SUPREME Court on Wednesday overturned yet another federal law meant to check corruption and influence-peddling in national politics. The ruling shows two things: The Roberts Court’s destructive view on these matters wasn’t changed by the backlash to its Citizens United holding, and Congress must respond by designing new rules that can pass the court’s overly skeptical review. If lawmakers tackle the issue forthrightly, they have some workable options. The court eliminated an overall limit on how much donors could give to candidates, parties and various other committees over the course of an election cycle. The idea had been to

Numbers from a RAND Corporation study that has been kept under wraps suggest that barely 858,000 previously uninsured Americans – nowhere near 7.1 million – have paid for new policies and joined the ranks of the insured by Monday night.
