While other local elected officials have warned about Guam´s own "fiscal cliff" recently, the governor said he´s been warning the island about the very same problem for years. "I´ve seen this ´cliff´ coming for years, I hate to say I told you so, but I told everyone so," Gov. Eddie Calvo said. "I don't think there's any surprises coming from me in that regard," Calvo said, recalling that several years ago when he was chairman of the legislative finance committee, he had warned about the local government spending beyond its means. I wish I could join you OP.

My 19 months there were close to Heaven.

Did you ever see the PBS special ...

... Remittance Man?

I wish I could find a copy.

Guam is the most beautiful island on this Earth.

What a wonderful place.

Stay in the middle of the island. If you go to the edge, that might be the tipping point!

Earlier on Monday, he spent the day touring the battleground states of Wisconsin and Ohio. Des Moines is where his 2008 campaign for president began. The President will spend election day in Chicago. At the final event at the Des Moines East Village, the President was joined by First Lady Michelle Obama and Bruce Springsteen.

The race for Ohio’s Electoral College votes remains very close, but now Mitt Romney now has a two-point advantage. The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Ohio Voters shows Romney with 50% support to President Obama’s 48%. One percent (1%) likes some other candidate, while another one percent (1%) remains undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here.) Ohio remains a Toss-Up in the Rasmussen Reports Electoral College Projections. Based on the current projections, Romney would have to win Wisconsin if he loses Ohio in order to move into the

Very early on, before this campaign started in earnest, live or die, I publicly cast my lot with Gallup and Rasmussen. As a poll addict going back to 2000, these are the outlets that have always played it straight. It's got nothing to do with politics and everything to do with credibility and not wanting to kid myself. So when an outlet like Gallup tells me Romney is up seven-points, 52-45%, among those who have already voted, that's very big news. Just as Gallup did with their bombshell survey showing that 2012 is looking like a year where Republicans will enjoy a record three-point turnout advantage over

Is Mitt Romney getting the band back together? The 2012 Republican presidential nominee has invited his debate prep advisers and senior campaign aides to his mountaintop chalet in Park City, Utah, for a weekend of skiing later this month, according to two people close to Romney. The reunion of Romney´s political brain trust comes amid a burst of positive buzz about the former Massachusetts governor -- from favorable reviews of "MITT," the Netflix documentary about his campaigns, to chatter among some powerful GOP donors about another Romney presidential campaign in 2016.

NATIONAL HARBOR, Md.—Rand Paul handily won the presidential straw poll at the Conservative Political Action Conference Saturday, one gauge of the Republican base’s mood less than two years before the 2016 primary season kicks off. The Kentucky senator received 31 percent, far ahead of second place Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), who received 11 percent. Neurosurgeon Ben Carson finished third with 9 percent, ahead of New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who received 8 percent. The announcement came at the end of the group’s annual three-day confab. Organizers said that 2,459 attendees voted on computer kiosks.

During House Minority Nancy Pelosi´s address at the 2014 California Democrats State Convention on Saturday in Los Angeles, she told a story about an unnamed House Republican telling her the GOP does not care about hungry children in America. Pelosi claimed the unnamed "friend" called the poor and hungry "invisible". Pelosi used that same exact same rhetoric in early February at her weekly press briefing only then instead of friend it was the rock band U2 that gave her the "invisible" line... What’s been said of confession — that it is good for one’s soul but bad for one’s reputation — can also be true of testifying to Congress, so Lois Lerner has chosen to stay silent. Hers, however, is an eloquent silence. The most intrusive and potentially most punitive federal agency has been politicized; the IRS has become an appendage of Barack Obama’s party. Furthermore, congruent with exhortations from some congressional Democrats, it is intensifying its efforts to suffocate groups critical of progressives, by delaying what once was the swift, routine granting of tax-exempt status. So, the IRS, far from repenting

One of the most seismic changes in American politics over the last decade has been the emergence of a sharp generational split among the electorate. The Democratic Party owes its success in the last two presidential elections almost entirely to overwhelming support among the very young, which has overcome continued conservatism among older voters. The Pew Research Institute has dominated the field of exploring the ideological cleavages among different generations. And its latest survey shows again how the liberalism of the youngest voting cohort, millennials, remains firm, and likely to continue to recast the electorate. A few charts from the survey

Sarah Palin, the tea-party-darling former Alaska governor who ran for vice president in 2008, is leaving the door open for a president run in 2016. ´It depends on what it is that Americans really, really want in a candidate,´ Palin said Friday night. ´If they want a fighter, if they want someone who can so respect our exceptionalism, everything that makes America great, the promise of America. And if we don´t find that, then I would run.´ [Snip] Asked who her favorite presidential hopefuls are so far, she singled out Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul while

Barack Obama´s parents were "married in name only," according to David Maraniss´s 2012 Barack Obama: The Story. But since definitions of an "in name only" marriage vary, such as "a marriage of convenience" or "a sexless marriage," and Maraniss failed to explain his claim, it is unclear what he was implying. Therefore, Obama´s oft-told nativity story must be searched for the full implications of Obama´s parents´ "in name only" marriage. (snip) So when did Ann´s and Obama Sr.´s "whatever happened happened fast" wedding happen? For no apparent reason, confusion abounds among Obama´s biographers over the wedding date:

New York City lefty Mayor Bill de Blasio was elected in a landslide with more than 73 percent of the vote last November. Yet after only two months on the job, his approval rating has been cut nearly in half, with only 39 percent of city voters expressing approval of the job he has done so far. (Snip) But this is a brutal start. For a worst-case scenario, consider the rapid slide of President François Hollande—another far-left candidate who swept into office in a landslide. He saw his approval rating crater within months of taking office; it now sits at

The most dangerous parts of a flight are takeoff and landing. Rarely do incidents happen when a plane is cruising seven miles above the earth. So the disappearance of a Malaysia Airlines jet well into its flight Saturday morning over the South China Sea has led aviation experts to assume that whatever happened was quick and left the pilots no time to place a distress call. (Snip) The problem had to be big enough, he said, to stop the plane´s transponder from broadcasting its location, although the transponder can be purposely shut off from the cockpit.

Kuala Lumpur - A Malaysia Airlines flight carrying 227 passengers and 12 crew crashed in the South China Sea on Saturday, Vietnamese state media said, quoting a senior naval official. The Boeing 777-200ER flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing had been missing for hours when Vietnam´s Tuoi Tre news quoted Admiral Ngo Van Phat as saying he had asked boats from an island off south Vietnam to rush to the crash site. If the report is confirmed, it would mark the U.S.-built airliner´s deadliest crash since entering service 19 years ago. Malaysia Airlines had yet to confirm that the aircraft had crashed. It said earlier in the day that no distress signal
