REDFORD, Mich. — President Barack Obama warned Monday that he "won´t compromise" on his demands that the wealthiest Americans pay more in taxes, digging in on the chief sticking point between the White House and Republicans as they seek a way to avert the "fiscal cliff." Obama brought his pressure-Congress campaign to the heart of industrial America, ripping lines from his own re-election bid as the nation inched closer to a perilous economic cliff. He said the country couldn´t afford a "manufactured" crisis....
Comments: Now it´s a class warfare campaign, which is remarkably similar to the reelection campaign. Quite the uniter, isn´t he? /s off/
Useless empty suit. Its not a "Manufactured" crisis. The fiscal cliff is real and no matter what happens in January you are driving right over it, at high speed.
The Pubbies will cave on the rates, the economy, already in pre recession mode will tip into a double dip which could be even deeper than the first dip and you will continue to blame Bush and the Republicans.
I truly believe that in four years as we wind up the 2016 election we will still be barraged with "If only the wealthiest among us (thosee making more than 50,00 a year by then) would pay just a little bit more, if they would just pay their fair share, we could clean up the mess we inherited.
The night is always darkest before the dawn. Its a shade of pitch black out like I´ve never before experienced, and I see no glimmer of reprieve.
The only way out of this mess is to increase taxable income. You do that by less regulation and job killing crap like Obamacare, and allowing the producers to expand businesses and hire workers. Giveaways to the nonproductive moochers don´t generate tax revenue. Raising rates just drives more income out of the country.
Its not a "Manufactured" crisis. The fiscal cliff is real and no matter what happens in January you are driving right over it, at high speed.
The trouble is that nothing Duh Wun is willing to do will fix the cliff nor even stop its growth. The fiscal cliff is the National Debt. Not one word that Geithner claimed to be "0bama´s plan" will help with the "fiscal cliff" problem.
Any/all new sources of tax revenue should be dedicated to paying off the debt, not increasing the entitlement class.
The only measures that will slow the inevitable plunge over the fiscal cliff are measures that cut spending. NOT just the growth of spending, but actual dollars spent.
The House needs to not compromise on taxes. Don´t pass any tax or spending increases. All tax and spending matters have to orignate and be approved in the Congress. The President can go play basketball, jump in the lake, I don´t care.
The last thing the Obamboozler wants to do is make the economy healthy, wealthy and wise. The goal of Obummer is to keep ´em dumber in the Summer, witless in the Winter, simple in the Spring and foolish in the Fall (especially at election time)! In plain word, he is out to break the back of small business, get more and more voters on welfare and food stamps and weaken this country any way possible.
He´s sucking the soul out of America one executive order, one demagogic statement, and one intransigence at a time. Lord do I wish this nightmare was over! We´re in the early stages of a Uganda or Zimbabwe meltdown and when the free phones are out of minutes and the EBT card won´t go through and Section 8 can´t make up the rest of the rent, we´ll bear witness to the full flowering of class-envy of the entitlement deprived, and manic rage brought about by the despicable Communists huddled together like thousands of little Shmeagles coveting their ´´Precious´´ power.
This clown doesn´t compromise period! That´s not included in the Alinsky handbook. He uses the thuggish methods that served the Chicago mayors and union bosses so well. 5 weeks later I´m still at a loss to understand how the country was duped into voting for him again after the disaster of the previous four years.
After you Bub. Haven´t you been told yet -- you are one of those despised wealthy. Your resident pay is now above 400,000 and your perks at millions we dare you to do as Mitt Romney would have done. GIVE ALL YOUR PAY to lower the national debt you created. The GOP should point out daily your personal take so your beloved 47.5 % will know just how unfair and unbalanced you share with them.
LOS ANGELES – Federal officials on Monday unsealed five criminal cases filed against 18 current and former Los Angeles County sheriff´s deputies as part of an FBI investigation into allegations of civil rights abuses and corruption in the nation´s largest jail system. The charges were announced at a press conference after 16 of 18 defendants were arrested earlier in the day. They were expected to be arraigned later in U.S. District Court. (Snip) One federal indictment filed Nov. 20 named seven deputies charged with conspiracy and obstruction of justice. It is unclear from the indictment whether they are currently employed
Skiers and snowboarders searching for "the steep and deep" this winter may find the concept has taken on a much less appealing connotation: The price of the sport is getting so steep that some believe it may be becoming the exclusive domain of those whose pockets are exceedingly deep. "You have the haves and the have mores," said Douglas Quinby, principal analyst at PhoCusWright, which conducts market research on the travel industry. (Snip)Skiing, of course, has never been considered an inexpensive activity, but the sport has seen a significant upward shift in visitor demographics in recent years.
Denver - A baker who refused to make a wedding cake for a same-sex ceremony must serve gay couples despite his religious beliefs or face fines, a judge said Friday. The order from administrative law judge Robert N. Spencer said Masterpiece Cakeshop in suburban Denver discriminated against a couple "because of their sexual orientation by refusing to sell them a wedding cake for their same-sex marriage." The order says the cake-maker must "cease and desist from discriminating" against gay couples. Although the judge did not impose fines in this case, the business will face penalties if it continues to turn away gay
The newly-unveiled uniforms for the U.S. Olympic snowboarding team are star-spangled and red, white and blue — but they´re not made in America. The hodgepodge design, which designer Burton Snowboards says was inspired by a vintage quilt, features the faded colors of Old Glory and stars on the shoulder, base-layer henleys, hats and gloves. But like Ralph Lauren, which designed U.S. Olympic gear for the 2012 games in London, Vermont-based Burton is now defending its decision to use a global set of vendors to complete the job ahead of the Sochi Games, which begin on Feb. 7.
New York - Did stores shoot themselves in the foot? Target, Macy´s and other retailers offered holiday discounts in early November and opened stores on Thanksgiving Day. It was an effort to attract shoppers before Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving that traditionally kicks off the holiday shopping season. Those tactics drew bigger crowds, but failed to motivate Americans to spend. A record 141 million people are expected to shop in stores and online over the four-day Thanksgiving weekend that ends Sunday, up from last year´s 137 million, according to the results of a survey of nearly 4,500 shoppers
Janet Yellen moved one step closer to becoming the next chair of the Federal Reserve, after the Senate Banking Committee voted to move her nomination forward for a full Senate vote. The committee voted 14-8 to send Yellen´s nomination on for consideration before the full Senate. That vote on the Senate floor has not yet been scheduled, but is expected to occur in early December. Three Republicans joined Democrats on the committee in voting in favor of Yellen: Bob Corker of Tennessee, Mark Kirk of Illinois and Tom Coburn of Oklahoma. Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia was the only
LAS VEGAS — A U.S. Navy sailor told his high school sweetheart he wanted to marry her the moment he laid eyes on her after an 11-month deployment off the coast of war-torn Syria. Seaman Apprentice Dylan Ruffer got his wish Tuesday shortly after stepping off a plane at Reno-Tahoe International Airport. Ruffer and Madison Meinhardt, both 19, tied the knot just after midnight under a tulle-covered arch in front of the arrivals escalators. More than 200 invited guests, passengers and others looked on. "Seeing her for the first time, it was amazing," Ruffer told reporters. A reception followed
FORT COLLINS, Colo. — The Colorado healthcare exchange has processed applications for thousands of people … and one dog. Shane Smith, of Fort Collins, says his dog Baxter received a letter informing him that a health insurance account had been opened in his name through Connect for Health Colorado. “I thought, ‘Wow, this is so awesome,’” Smith said with a laugh. “They have gone out of their way to insure my 14-year-old Yorkie.” Smith had called Connect for Health Colorado to sign himself up for insurance because his old plan was cancelled due to Obamacare.
TIPTON, MO. (AP) - A Missouri high school football player who has been hospitalized with a brain injury since an October playoff game died Thursday, according to the school district´s superintendent. Chad Stover, a junior at Tipton High School, had been hospitalized in critical condition since Oct. 31, when he was taken off the football field near the end of the game and taken by ambulance to the hospital. He died at a hospital in Columbia, said Scott Jarvis, superintendent of the Tipton School District. Officials have not said how Stover, identified in multiple reports as 17 years old, was
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Tim Bowers loved the outdoors. Hunting gave him the quiet time during which he could reflect on a busy life that included a new wife, a successful business and a baby on the way. The Indiana man was enjoying that time while hunting for deer Saturday when he fell 16 feet from a tree and suffered a severe spinal injury that paralyzed him from the shoulders down. Doctors thought he might never breathe on his own again. Confronted with that prognosis, Bowers´ family made an unusual request of doctors at Fort Wayne´s Lutheran Hospital: Could Bowers be
LAX police and the federal Transportation Security Administration are reviewing protocols in the wake of the shooting Friday that left a TSA agent dead and several other people wounded. At a news conference over the weekend, TSA Administrator John Pistole said his agency´s review will include the question of whether its agents should be armed (they are not presently). “We will look at what our policies and procedures are and what provides the best possible security," he said. (Snip) Released in late 2011, the report by the panel set up by Villaraigosa´s administration noted that $1.6 billion had been spent Source spelled out by Staff.
Several noisy protesters interrupted President Obama’s health care reform rally in Boston on Wednesday afternoon, stopping the commander in chief’s speech dead in its tracks. The demonstrators shouted for Mr. Obama to “stop the pipeline” and to confront climate change, referencing the controversial Keystone XL pipeline project which the president must personally approve or deny. Pausing for a few moments, Mr. Obama then attempted to make light of the situation. “We’re talking about health care today … That is the wrong rally,” he said with a smile, telling the crowd he is in Boston to talk health care, not global
US President Barack Obama may have moved the masses attending Nelson Mandela’s memorial service with his stirring eulogy, but it was his grinning "selfie" with the Danish and British premiers that set social networks abuzz. In a candid moment captured by a photographer, Denmark’s Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt can be seen holding up her smartphone, with Obama lending a helping hand, as they pose for a picture with David Cameron, all three of them smiling broadly in their seats at Soweto’s World Cup stadium.(Snip)Mashable, the news and technology website, ran the photograph under the headline: ‘‘Dear Obama: Funerals are no place
When I was a kid, I knew two different Santa Clauses. The first had a fat belly, rosy cheeks, a long white beard, and skin as pink as bubble gum. He was omnipresent, visiting my pre-school and the local mall, visible in all of my favorite Christmas specials. Then there was the Santa in my family’s household, in the form of ornaments, cards, and holiday figurines. A near-carbon copy of the first one—big belly, rosy cheeks, long white beard: check, check, check. But his skin was as dark as mine. Seeing two different Santas was bewildering. Eventually I asked my father what
On his way to the podium at the memorial ceremony for former South African president Nelson Mandela, President Obama walked down the line of dignitaries, greeting other leaders there to pay their respects. Among the hands shaken: that of Cuban leader Raul Castro. Obama neither made a special effort to shake Castro’s hand nor to avoid him. A snub might have been awkward: In his speech, Obama praised Mandela’s “greatest gift” as “his recognition that we are all bound together in ways that can be invisible to the eye; that there is a oneness to humanity; that we achieve ourselves by
The Obama State Department has finally released a second round of photos revealing the harrowing devastation wrought by a terrorist attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi on Sept. 11, 2012. The new photographs depict rampant damage to the consulate. They show charred walls, smoldering fires, Arabic graffiti defacing exterior walls, and scattered debris throughout. The extent of the damage would lead any reasonably serious person to conclude that this was a cold, calculated attack, carefully coordinated to mark the 11th anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001. Unfortunately for the American people, the Obama-Clinton-Rice cabal that led to the Benghazi cover-up was
A black fashion student says he was brutally attacked by a gang of Hasidic men who shouted anti-gay slurs at him while he was walking through Williamsburg after a night of partying, the Daily News has learned. Taj Patterson, 22, was headed home to Fort Greene around 4:30 a.m. on Dec. 1 when he says more than a dozen ultra-Orthodox Jewish men began assaulting him on Flushing Ave. and yelling, “Stay down, f----t!”
A “presidential selfie” featuring President Barack Obama, British Prime Minister David Cameron, and Denmark’s Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt at Nelson Mandela’s memorial service began making the rounds this morning, but it’s the person not included in the frame who caught everyone’s attention: As anyone with two eyes and a Twitter account has noticed, Michelle Obama does not appear amused. Of course, though a picture says a thousand words, not all of those words are necessarily true. FLOTUS might not have even known the photo was taking place. Or she could disapprove of funeral selfies. Either way.
Johannesburg - A man who provided sign language interpretation on stage for Nelson Mandela´s memorial service, attended by scores of heads of state, was a "fake," the national director of the Deaf Federation of South Africa said on Tuesday. Asked about the claim by The Associated Press, South Africa´s government said it was preparing a statement. Three sign language experts said the man was not signing in South African or American sign languages. South African sign language covers all of the country´s 11 official languages, according to the federation. It wasn´t immediately clear if the unidentified man was using a
Barack Obama has arrived in South Africa to lead the American delegation at a memorial service for former South African President Nelson Mandela in Johannesburg. But his party is reportedly stuck in traffic and he is said to have arrived late at the stadium for the ceremony. [Snip] But Mr Clinton, Mr Carter and his wife Rosalynn have all traveled separately to the event. According to reports, Mr Obama and his delegation are stuck in a lines of traffic caused by tens of thousands of people making their way to the event. Mr Obama is among the foreign leaders who
The sign language interpreter at Nelson Mandela´s memorial yesterday "made up his own signs," according to South Africa´s deaf federation. "He´s a complete fraud," Cara Loening, director of Sign Language Education and Development in Cape Town, said according to ITV News. "He wasn´t even doing anything, There was not one sign there. Nothing. He was literally flapping his arms around." Delphin Hlungwane, an official South African sign language interpreter at DeafSA, told Reuters:
All three networks on Monday morning highlighted the appearance of the Obamas at the Kennedy Center Honors, but only ABC fawned over "fashion win" of First Lady. Lara Spencer enthused that " one of the stars of the show was Michelle Obama." An excited Spencer explained that Mrs. Obama looked "absolutely ravishing in a flowing teal gown as she accompanied President Obama." The co-host declared, "Another big fashion win for the First Lady. CBS This Morning offered a full report on the various performers who were honored, but co-anchor Charlie Rose avoided ABC´s superlatives.
President Obama’s job approval among American voters has dropped to negative territory with just 38 percent voicing their approval versus the 58 who says they disapprove, according to a national poll released Tuesday by the independent Quinnipiac University. That is one percent less than the 39% who said they approved of him in last month’s poll. The majority of the 2,692 registered voters the University in early December said that the president is not honest and trustworthy. When asked, “Do you approve or disapprove of the way Barack Obama is handling his job as President?,” respondents gave Obama lackluster ratings
