Judge finds NC ‘Choose
Life’ plates unconstitutional

Fox8 News [Greensboro, NC], by Joe Borlick

RALEIGH, N.C. – A federal judge has ruled it is unconstitutional for North Carolina to issue pro-life license plates unless the state offers similar plates supporting abortion rights. U.S. District Court Judge James C. Fox ruled on Friday that North Carolina cannot produce or distribute the “Choose Life” plate. Judge Fox concluded, “The State’s offering of a Choose Life license plate in the absence of a pro-choice plate constitutes viewpoint discrimination in violation of the First Amendment.”

Easy! Have a Choose Life plate, and have a Choose Death plate. That should make the Judge happy.

So this means that all those license plates promoting ´good´ causes must have an opposite....If you have a ´Save the Whales´ one then you must also have a ´Kill the Whales´ plate offered.

Not reported is that the judge also ruled on some other controversial license plates:

1) "Save the Polar Bears" is no longer acceptable unless there is a plate that says "Slaughter the Polar Bears".

2) "Support Breast Cancer Research" must be balanced by "Let the Hags Die".

3) "Visualize World Peace" must have a counterpart that says "Cheering for the Apocalypse".

To the denizens of the Left, "Choose Life" is hate speech.

They define hate speech as any opinion with which they disagree.

Alabama has Choose Life plates, although I can´t really afford to pay $75 for one. But why doesn´t the N.C. legislature just approve a plate for pro choice people? At least we would know who they are and avoid them whenever possible.

If the NC guv had the spine, they could just ignore the judge. Just like the IRS, when they don´t like the results of a court case, they just say they´re not in compliance - basically daring the judge to do anything about it

Face it, judges are chosen for their ideology, not the adherence to the law or Constitution, of which they take an oath to uphold.

The 1st Amendment states our right to free speech. It says nothing of the `absence` of speech.

We are living in a land run by morons.

Lessee...

Amendment I

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

1. Where in the wide, wide world of sports is "viewpoint discrimination" prohibited in the above?
2. The First applies to the US House and Senate ["Congress shall..."], not to state legislatures.
3. Sloganeering should be carried out on license plate frames, sold at retail, not incorporated into license plates. Their purpose is to identify a vehicle for traffic-law purposes.
4. Doesn´t look like the judge reasons rigorously.
5. Speaking of which -- the decision seems to require every matter to have only for or against sides. So, to offer one example, where would that leave the state´s agnostics? Though I guess they could put an atheist plate on the front of the car and a believer´s plate on the back. Or vice-versa. Maybe.
6. That, #4, is just a pro-sushi plate.
7. I do see a problem for Illinois. They´ll need much bigger plates to get a "Babies Not Killed by Abortions Should Die Without Medial Care in Hospital Linen Closets Like Obama Wants" on them.

It appears that they have already taken "Choose Life" off of North Carolina´s list of approved specialized license plates.

I notice that they still offer the highly discriminatory "Save the Sea Turtle" and "Share the Road" plates without offering offsetting "Kill the Sea Turtle" and "Hog the Road" plates.

Those who are saying "Choose Death" is the correct opposite are exactly correct. The "Choose Life" slogan is not the literal opposite of "Pro Choice," and any claim that it is should be fought vigorously in court.

They want to have an equal voice? Let them take the precise opposite position.

But they have achieved (for now) their primary purpose, to silence those who call a life a life.

Progressive liberal obfuscation at its best.
The judiciary is has become the champions of advancing the liberal agenda and have ceased to even try to project the appearance of even handed arbitrators. How a "choose Life" slogan offends against the First Amendment defies even the most creative "umbra within the penumbra" imagination.

Here is a college quiz. While many parts of the U.S. economy struggle to recover from the Great Recession of 2008-09, one domestic industry is experiencing a technology-driven expansion in which American innovations have led to countless new company startups, a surge in hiring and some of the highest-paying entry-level jobs for graduating college seniors. CONCORD, N.H. — Republican Scott Brown said Monday he will kick off his next campaign for U.S. Senate in Portsmouth, the New Hampshire city he says played a special role in his childhood. The former Massachusetts senator will formally announce his bid for the seat held by Democrat Jeanne Shaheen at the Portsmouth Harborside Hotel on Thursday night. “I remember our house on Islington Street, strolling through Strawbery Banke with my grandfather, and catching a show at Prescott Park. Now, Portsmouth is going to be the start of the next chapter in my life,” he told supporters in an email.

Sen. Jeanne Shaheen sure talks a lot about “outside” money. She raises campaign funds by claiming to protect the state from outside “special interests” who might help Scott Brown. Those poor donors probably have no idea how much money Shaheen raises from out-of-state special interests. According to the Center for Responsive Politics, which tracks campaign donations, Shaheen has raised 75 percent of her 2014 campaign cash from out of state. For her career, Shaheen’s top 10 metropolitan areas for campaign donations are, in order: Boston; New York City; Washington, D.C.; Los Angeles; Lowell, Mass; San Francisco; Manchester; Chicago; Portsmouth; Philadelphia.

The party has traditionally had trouble with older voters, losing the group aged 65 and over by 21 points in 2010 — when Republicans picked up 63 seats — and by 12 points in the 2012 presidential race. Seniors are the GOP’s most reliable voting bloc in midterm years, turning out in higher numbers than Democratic base voters. A recent Gallup poll showed seniors have become even more Republican over the last two decades; in 2013, 48 percent considered themselves Republican. That spells trouble for Democrats, who are already facing

LONDON - Peaches Geldof, the wild-child second daughter of concert organizer Bob Geldof who worked as a model, a television presenter and a fashion writer and filled the pages of British tabloids with her late-night antics, has died at age 25. There was no immediate word on the cause of her death at her home in Wrotham, Kent, southeast England. Her father said in a statement Monday: "Peaches has died. We are beyond pain." "She was the wildest, funniest, cleverest, wittiest and the most bonkers of all of us," he said. "Writing 'was' destroys me afresh. What a beautiful child. How is this possible that we will not see her again? How is that bearable? We loved her and will cherish her forever."

A married freshman Republican congressman who campaigned on his Christian, conservative values apologized Monday after surveillance video surfaced purportedly showing him in a lengthy liplock with a staffer. In the Dec. 23 footage, obtained by a local newspaper, Rep. Vance McAllister, R-La. - who ahead of his election last fall ran multiple campaign ads trumpeting his faith and family - is seen kissing and embracing a woman for about 20 seconds at his Monroe, La., district office. The Ouachita Citizen reports the woman is the congressman´s 33-year-old part-time scheduler, who is also married.

A few weeks ago, the liberal comedian Bill Maher and conservative strategist and pundit Bill Kristol had a brief spat on Maher’s HBO show, putatively over what instigated the tea party but ultimately over the psychic wound that has divided red America and blue America in the Obama years. The rise of the tea party, explained Maher in a let’s-get-real moment, closing his eyes for a second the way one does when saying something everybody knows but nobody wants to say, “was about a black president.” Both Maher and Kristol carry themselves with a weary cynicism that allows them to

Call it the million-worker mystery. A large chunk of American adults are no longer in the labor force. That has left economists divided over how many of them are voluntarily not working-or even looking for work-because they wanted to retire, go to school or take care of family members, versus how many have been forced out because they couldn´t find a job. (snip) Shierholz estimates that there are currently more than 5 million missing workers who are not included in the unemployment rate because they are neither working nor looking for work, but who might be if the job market

The Democratic National Committee is furious by a conservative website’s ad campaign that depicts Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi clad in a bikini in a provocative pose with her tongue sticking out. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee, called on Republicans to press Breitbart News to remove the artwork — one of several suggestive images on the website promoting the new California site. The image of Pelosi, beneath one of California Gov. Jerry Brown’s face photo-shopped onto a flexing body builder, includes the sub-head: “Because you can’t make this s— up.” “To say the least,

Add Bryan Cranston, the star of TV´s recent hit "Breaking Bad" and a new Broadway play about former President Lyndon B. Johnson, to Team Obamacare. In an interview with Yahoo News “global anchor” Katie Couric, the actor called Obamacare the highlight of President Obama´s legacy. “Now’s the time to stake a claim to leave your legacy,” he encouraged Obama. “I personally believe that his health care program is fantastic. Yes, there are problems. Anything worth while is going to go through a growing pains period. But this is his legacy and I think it’s a great one because I don’t
