Merck Foundation ends Boy Scout funding over gay rights stance

| Merck´s charitable foundation has stopped giving money to the Boy Scouts of America. The Merck Foundation says the Boy Scouts´ exclusion of gays from its ranks and leadership positions conflicts with giving guidelines and the company´s nondiscrimination policy. The foundation says it will reconsider giving money to the Boy Scouts if they change their policy on sexual orientation. Merck CEO Kenneth C. Frazier was a scout in his youth. He received the "Good Scout" Award from the Philadelphia Cradle of Liberty Boy Scout Council in June. Records show the foundation gave $30,000 to The Boy Scouts of America in 2011

I´m sure the Merck Foundation members are all perfectly fine with their 14 year old daughters going on overnight trips in small tents with heterosexual men.

It would be nice if Merck would take this funding and put it in a pool to compensate boy scouts who are victims of pedophile scout leaders.

Were those self-important, pompous, liberals on the Merck Foundation board living under rock during the Sandusky scandal? The Boy Scouts discriminate against GAY SCOUTMASTERS and TROOP LEADERS to avoid pedophilia. Contrary to what gays say, sex abuse of young boys is a form of homosexuality. Those pedophiles just like them younger than the other gays.

Probably a business decision. Gotta keep making AIDS drugs. Must support homosexuals in order to keep the patient list growing for more drugs.

The very same people who want Republicans to stay out of social issues turn around and stick their noses in the social issues. These businesses all disgust me. We now live in an unfree coercive society.
The issue should be discussed by the people and decided by the people.

Attaining the privilege of being a Scout Master is a pedophiles dream. Merck is supposed to be a company which bases its entire business on controlled population studies. Have they even considered researching the issue??? I gaurantee that the Boy Scouts did in the past and came to the right conclusion, no gays in leadership roles.

The scouts can´t afford gay scoutmasters. They have been sued too many times in the past by molested scouts. It takes a lot of gall to support child molestation over the well-being of boys. All for the great god of political correctness.

Yet ANOTHER statist, ´Foundation,´ tool targets America´s ethical & moral culture through the Boy Scouts Organization with this blatant attempt to, ´´CHANGE,´´ ´´RE-SET,´´ and shove America, ´´FORWARD,´´ into the abyss of lefty/lib societal chaos, ...´´MARCH: HUP 2-3-4?!!!´´ -YIKES!!!
Is the lefty/lib/statists success several years ago in, ´changing,´ & redirecting the original Girl Scouts Organization several years ago, the reason the lefties never bother harrassing them anymore? And then there was the Y.W.Christian.A, the Y.M.Christian.A. and on & on, as one targeted benevolence is taken down at a time. Statists´ ultimate tyrannical goal is clarifing right before our eyes as their BIG Government BLOB creeps over & engulfs every possible individual´s Right to freedom.
The statist dems aren´t about, ´´individual choice,´´ but rather about dictates to the masses and such Foundations are but useful tools to that end. mmm mmm mmm

New York — Federal mortgage payment relief has been extended up to one year for more than 200,000 homeowners whose houses were damaged by Superstorm Sandy. U.S. Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan announced the extension for homeowners with Federal Housing Administration-insured loans on Friday. A previous mortgage payment extension for federally-backed home loans was set to expire on April 30. About 286,000 homeowners with FHA-insured loans were affected by the late October storm, with nearly 96,000 in New York. Donovan said the 12-month extension was meant to help homeowners still struggling to rebuild avoid foreclosure.

Nashville, Tenn. - A proposal that would dock the welfare payments of parents whose children fail school is dead. After about a 40-minute debate on the Senate floor Thursday, Republican Senator Sponsor Stacey Campfield decided to pull the bill so it can be studied over the summer. Both Republicans and Democrats expressed concern about the legislation, which sought to cut Temporary Assistance for Needy Families benefits by 30 percent if a child fails to advance to the next grade. The money could be earned back if a parent attends two conferences with teachers, takes parenting classes or enrolls the child in

New Jersey districts spent an average of $18,047 per pupil in 2011-12, up 4 percent from the year before, the state said Wednesday. That figure comes from the third annual “Taxpayer’s Guide to Education Spending,” which uses a method devised by the Christie administration to give residents a full picture of the price tag for schools from pre-kindergarten through Grade 12. (Snip) Among regular Bergen districts, total per-pupil spending ranged from a high of $25,938 in the small, wealthy and high-achieving district of Alpine to $13,317 in the immigrant, blue-collar community of Fairview. A federal injunction seeks to shut down Memphis-based Mo’ Money Taxes. The government contends tax losses from fraudulent tax returns prepared by the firm in 2011 cost the IRS more than $9 million. The U.S. Justice Department has long had an eye on Mo’ Money and the tax preparation business. The focus intensified last year after hundreds of Mo’ Money clients in several states alleged bounced checks, excessive fees and the failure of the business to pass along IRS refunds. Augusta, Ga. — The usual crowd at the putting green at Augusta National had turned to face the wrong direction, toward the outdoor dining area adjacent to the old clubhouse. Usually, this is a sign that golf royalty is nearby. And, sure enough, there he was: Arnold Palmer, the four-time Masters winner, wearing in his green jacket and looking over a menu that he has probably seen a thousand times. New York — Cookie Monster stands accused of shoving a 2-year-old. Super Mario was charged with groping a woman. And Elmo was booked for berating tourists with anti-Semitic slurs. Times Square is crawling with entrepreneurs who dress up as pop-culture characters and try to make a few bucks posing for photos with visitors to the big city. But some of these characters are unlike anything you´ve seen on "Sesame Street" or at Disney World. They smoke, they use foul language, and they can be aggressive. At least three of them have been arrested in the past seven months.

So like for six weeks there had been no murders east of High Street in East Oakland. Problem is, there have been seven homicides east of High Street over the past six weeks,

More importantly for the November 2013 season finale in Pensacola, their practices in October are canceled too. New York — As many doctors struggle to keep their practices financially sound, some are buckling under money woes and being pushed into bankruptcy. It´s a trend that´s accelerated in recent years, industry experts say, with potentially serious consequences for doctors and patients. Some physicians are still able to keep practicing after bankruptcy, but for others, it´s a career-ending event. And when a practice shuts its doors, patients can find it harder to get the health care they need nearby. Chapter 11 bankruptcy filings by physician practices have spiked recently, noted Bobby Guy, co-chair of the American Bankruptcy Institute´s

Pro golfers, golf writers, and TV commentators are up in arms that Tiger Woods was only given a 2-stroke penalty for his illegal drop on the 15th hole yesterday. Tiger said last night that he dropped his ball two yards behind his previous spot, clearly violating the rule that you must drop "as nearly as possible" to your original spot. Golf people are not happy about it. They say that the new rule is B.S. (or it´s at least being misinterpreted), and Tiger should DQ himself to save the integrity of the game.

In Philadelphia, at a human abattoir on Lancaster Avenue, is where it ends, not where it starts. It starts with the perversion of language. It starts when the icons of a dissipated culture reduce a baby to a “fetus.” From there, Yeats’s blood-dimmed tide rolls rapidly in. Before long, a baby is not a person but a punishment, as President Barack Obama framed the matter in his familiar off-the-cuff iciness. Of course, to describe newborn children in their boundless possibilities and wonder would be to acknowledge, foremost, their humanity. That is why, instead, abortion enthusiasts must grope for words

With President Obama, there’s always a catch. In the 2014 budget he announced last week, Obama proposed a more accurate way of calculating the inflation rate for annual cost-of-living increases in Social Security. It’s a technical change in pursuit of honesty and good government. And if adopted, it would cause benefits to grow more slowly, though almost imperceptibly so. Republican leaders in Congress ought to be delighted since they had “championed”—Obama’s word—the idea in the first place. Then came the catch. The president’s price for adopting this gentle reform was hundreds of billions in new tax increases.

Only one of my six children has left New York for economic reasons but the strain of living in this expensive nanny state is weighing heavy on my other five and their families. As a native New Yorker, I´ve seen its middle class population decline over the years due to its neglect of blue collar families which is ironic since this is a Democrat city. With the recent arrests of several local politicians for corruption perhaps New Yorkers will pay more attention to those they put in office. Given their past indifference in local elections this is highly unlikely.

A few hours after Margaret Thatcher´s death on Monday, the snarling deadbeats of the British underclass were gleefully rampaging through the streets of Brixton in South London, scaling the marquee of the local fleapit and hanging a banner announcing, "THE B@&$! Mrs. Thatcher would have enjoyed all this. Her former speechwriter John O´Sullivan recalls how, some years after leaving office, she
