| Newark, N.J., Mayor Cory Booker did not skirt the question nor pause for a moment when asked if he had aspirations for higher office. Booker said he is considering running for either the New Jersey Senate seat or governor. "I am absolutely considering running for governor, as well as giving other options some consideration." Booker said on CBS News´ "Face the Nation." He added that he is also considering a run for Senate. (Snip) If he instead chooses to run for Senate, it would be for current Democratic Sen. Frank Lautenberg's seat. Lautenberg is the oldest sitting senator and would be 90 years old

He may actually have an uphill battle against Christie. Lautenberg will be properly moved offstage (a la Jimmy Hoffa) if need be, to clear the way for Obama II.

Go for both, Cory. You can do double duty as Guv and Senator, just like the state legislators who have multiple full time jobs on the side. Oh, and that quaint law that says if the Legislature´s in session, the other jobs must be fully paid is so reasonable. At this point, many have doubts that ´Granny´ Lautenberg can even locate NJ. He (and Menendez) surely never brought home the bacon from DC.

Politically, I can´t support a Democrat, but Booker seems like a mensch to me. Some time back, Lucianne Staff posted a wonderful clip of Booker speaking to a Jewish group as a must read.

I used to like Booker, but he´s turned into a typical sell-out dem since his star has risen. His latest stunt -- eating on food stamps -- is blatant false propaganda. And if he budgets his city the way he budgets his food buying, he´s not much of manager. Very disappointing.

Booker went to my HS after my time. He was a big time football recruit who blew out his knee at Stanford. He isn´t from Newark and is from a pretty wealthy town. There are McGreevey type rumors about him. I don´t know if they are true.

OP, there are SO many stories out here in NJ regarding red tape, bureaucratic snafu´s etc.....that the press is holding back on right now...........but if Booker announces, expect them to be run 24/7.........with nary a word on Uhhhhbama´s place in the promises.......
Booker will destroy CC, with the willing LSm right there behind him.....

GLENDALE - Police tranquilized a large mountain lion found wandering around a residential neighborhood in Glendale Thursday afternoon. The big cat was first spotted around 2:00 p.m. in the 4500 block of New York Avenue.The sighting was not far from Clark Magnet High School. It took three tranquilizer darts to bring the animal down. California Fish and Wildlife wardens believe the animal is a full-grown male, weighing about 120 pounds. Officials loaded him into the back of a pick-up truck. They said he would get a quick health check-up and be tagged, before being released back in the mountains.

Luke Nichter of Harker Heights, Texas, said he’s not a renter by choice. The Texas A&M University history professor’s $125,000 of student debt means he has no hope of getting a mortgage. Nichter, 35, who’s paying $1,500 a month on loans for degrees from Bowling Green State University in Ohio, is part of the most debt-laden generation to emerge from college. Two- thirds of student loans are held by people under the age of 40, according to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, blocking millions of them from taking advantage of the most affordable housing market on record.

Zimmerman´s mother Gladys Zimmerman posted a two page letter online saying that her son was innocent and was arrested "solely to placate the masses." A fisherman in Belarus was bitten to death by a beaver, and all he was doing was trying to take its picture, Sky News reports. The man spotted the beaver while fishing with friends at Lake Shestakov, but as he approached to take a photograph, the beaver bit him on the thigh. The animal managed to sever an artery, and his friends couldn´t stop the blood flow. Sky News helpfully reminds us that beavers can, of course, bite through trees. Beaver attacks are rare, though, and when they do occur, rabid beavers are generally to blame

RALEIGH — A new study suggests rising health care costs have taken a particularly large toll in North Carolina, where the number of residents who receive health insurance through their employers has dropped sharply over the past decade. The portion of North Carolinians under age 65 with employer-sponsored insurance declined from 69 percent in 2000 to 56 percent in 2011, according to the report released Thursday by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. SAN FRANCISCO — California lawmakers are considering taking some tax exemptions away from youth groups that do not accept gay, transgender or atheist members — a move intended to pressure the Boy Scouts of America to lift its ban on gay Scouts and troop leaders. Some cities have withdrawn free rent and other subsidies from the Boy Scouts over the years, but legislation introduced by state Sen. Only one of my six children has left New York for economic reasons but the strain of living in this expensive nanny state is weighing heavy on my other five and their families. As a native New Yorker, I´ve seen its middle class population decline over the years due to its neglect of blue collar families which is ironic since this is a Democrat city. With the recent arrests of several local politicians for corruption perhaps New Yorkers will pay more attention to those they put in office. Given their past indifference in local elections this is highly unlikely.

LOS ANGELES — Jonathan Winters, the cherub-faced comedian whose breakneck improvisations and misfit characters inspired the likes of Robin Williams and Jim Carrey, has died. He was 87. The Ohio native died Thursday evening at his Montecito, Calif., home of natural causes, said Joe Petro III, a longtime family friend. Petro said Winters died of natural causes and was surrounded by family and friends.
