Judge rejects bid to block Washington
state "stoned driving" rules

Olympia, Washington - A judge on Friday rejected a request by a medical marijuana user to block Washington state from enforcing tougher "stoned driving" rules after it became one of the first U.S. states to legalize the recreational use of marijuana. (Snip) The new rules, which for most marijuana smokers would put them over the legal driving limit for a couple hours after taking two or three hits from a joint, took effect on Thursday. The legal challenge came from Arthur West, an Olympia-based lawyer and medical marijuana patient who said the ballot initiative´s title wrongly left out

Comments:
How exactly would the police determine the legality of someone driving under the influence after smoking choom? And, what about if they are lacing it with other more serious narcotics. Glad I don´t live in Washington state anymore.

Yikes, this sounds impossible to enforce unless there is some kind of breathalyzer that will detect the active ingredient in marijuana. Boy did Washington State open a huge can of worms when they passed this. On a good note, may of the potheads are going to zero in on Washington State now...and become THEIR problem!

I wonder if that lawyer and enough intelligence to think what would happen if, while stoned, he hit someone and killed them in a car crash? Would that law, active or de-active by the court, make any difference then?

Sounds like he didn´t do enough Lawyer Homework.

Come on, Arthur. You´re not being picked on. You´re just another legal user now, in the mainstream of society.
There are many other types of medication that keep people from driving for a period of time after ingesting. Sleeping pills, pain killers, flu medication, etc. not to mention a legal limit for alcohol...

Unless you´re a particular family strain of Kennedy, there´s no reason marijuana use should get you special dispensations.

If you´re so sick you need medical pot,why are you on the road anyway and not in the hospital. How was medical pot even used as a springboard for legalization anyway?

A recent poll said an overwhelming majority of young people thinks pot is harmless. This is how you create an expansion of the culture of stoners which employers thoroughly reject.Who eventually takes care of the perpetually stoned unemployed? Wouldn´t surprise me at all if this is the next flood of people collecting disability.

Just for the hell of it,take a wild guess at which party they´ll vote for.

THC stores in body fat. Thats why a heavy user can pop positive for marijuana up to 30 days after stopping.

I remember an old Dragnet with SGT Joe Friday explaining the difference between marijuana and alcohol.

Paraphrase: It is possible with alcohol to "relax" and stay functional with one drink. But the point of marijuana is to get high. There´s no in between. You´re high or not. With one drink, you can get a buzz, and then stop. Not possible with marijuana.

I used it successfully with my kids, when this subject came up.

Some Republican fat cats are trying to coax former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush — brother and son to two former presidents — into making a bid for the White House. Democrats have been less subtle. They´ve created a "super PAC" called Ready for Hillary, which is only slightly less obvious a gesture than constructing a giant neon sign reading "Run, Hillary, Run." But in America, where leaders have to run for office, a more useful way to think about dynasties might be to think of them as brand names. In chaotic and confusing marketplaces,

Jerusalem - The Middle East peace talks verged on a breakdown Tuesday night, after President Mahmoud Abbas of the Palestinian Authority defied the United States and Israel by taking concrete steps to join 15 international agencies — a move to gain the benefits of statehood outside the negotiations process. The move, which appeared to catch American and Israeli officials by surprise, prompted Secretary of State John Kerry to cancel a planned return to the region on Wednesday, in which he had expected to complete an agreement extending negotiations through 2015. In that emerging deal, the United States would release an American

The Obama administration has conducted warrantless searches of Americans´ communications as part of the National Security Agency´s surveillance operations that target foreigners located outside of the U.S., the administration´s top intelligence official confirmed in a letter to Congress disclosed Tuesday. These searches were authorized by a secret surveillance court in 2011, but it was unclear until Tuesday whether any such searches on Americans had been conducted. The recent acknowledgement of warrantless searches on Americans offers more insight into U.S. government surveillance operations put in place after the terror attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. Two years ago, California Democrats celebrated victory in a decades-long struggle to win a supermajority in the Legislature, where a two-thirds majority is required for any tax increase. It was the latest chapter in a long descent into inconsequence by California Republicans, who hold no statewide offices and party registration of only 29.3 percent of the voters. But corruption has achieved what the Republicans could not. The supermajority is now down the drain as three of the Golden State’s 27 Democratic state senators have within the past two months been convicted or indicted on charges ranging from bribery to gun-running.

For those who are working, wages are rising more slowly than usual. “There remains no doubt that the economy and the job market are not back to normal health,” Ms. Yellen said. “The recovery still feels like a recession to many Americans and it also looks that way in some economic statistics.” Five years, now, since the “official end” of the recession and longer than that, of course,

There are two very clear and very different political paths before Paul Ryan right now. 1. Down this path lies a presidential bid in 2016, a race in which the Wisconsin Republican would enter as a top-tier candidate if not, perhaps, the race´s frontrunner. 2. Down this path lies the chairmanship of the Ways and Means Committee in the 114th Congress and, eventually, a chance to be the Speaker/House Minority Leader. Malaysian officials said more than two weeks ago that "All right, good night," were the last words, and that the co-pilot uttered them. A RAND study pours buckets of cold water on the Obama administration’s claims that it has nearly reached 7 million sign-ups for Obamacare. The whole point of Obamacare, supposedly, was to insure the uninsured and bend the cost curve down. Those who had insurance were supposed to be able to keep it. Families were supposed to start saving about $2500 a year. If you believed the Obama administration. Reality, according to RAND‘s study, is that the Obama administration’s 7 million figure is deceptive. Supposing 7 million have actually signed up and paid their first premium — which is not a given,

The former two-term governor of Florida speaks fluent Spanish, is a convert to Catholicism, and has high name recognition. Jeb could raise millions of dollars over night by just saying “yes” to running. Despite all this, there are strong reasons Republicans should say no to him. 1. His last name is poison. Let’s face it, if Jeb Bush had the last name of Something Else he would have already run for president in 2008 or 2012. According to a recent Washington Post/ABC News poll registered voters were asked if they would definitely NOT vote for Jeb Bush and 50 percent said they would not.
