Caracas, Venezuela – Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez announced that his cancer has returned and that he will undergo another surgery in Cuba. Chavez, who won re-election on Oct. 7, also said on Saturday night for the first time that if his health were to worsen, his successor would be Vice President Nicolas Maduro. "We should guarantee the advance of the Bolivarian Revolution," Chavez said on television, seated at the presidential palace with Maduro and other aides. The president said that tests had shown a return of "some malignant cells" in the same area where tumors were previously

Comments:
Naming a successor [a former bus driver] is not good news for him, or the Country. Going to Cuba for health care about pelvic cancer cannot be good for him, either.

Will be fun to see the bond market whipsaw on Monday. Friday, the Vz bond market went down sharply when Hugo returned to Havana, saying he was fit as a fiddle. Not being subtle, the bonds should leap skyward on this particular development. There will probably be some street celebrations, too. Hugo can watch from his deathbed.

New York - AOL became the latest company to blame Obamacare for cutting back on employee benefits. The tech firm will now pay its 401(k) company match only to employees who are active on Dec. 31 of that year, as opposed to in their paychecks throughout the year. So those who leave the company before the end of the year will forfeit the match. AOL CEO Tim Armstrong blamed $7.1 million in additional Obamacare costs the company is facing this year. Had the company not made the change in its 401(k) payments, employees would have seen their health insurance costs increase, he told CNN Thursday.

A warning this election season: If you are searching the Web for information on Democratic congressional candidates, read the fine print. At least 15 websites that appear to be official campaign sites for Democratic candidates, are actually the handiwork of the National Republican Congressional Committee. In an effort to improve their online efforts this election season, the NRCC’s digital team came up with what the group believes is a great idea: get out the Republican message through fake Democrat sites. “The idea is people who are looking for information on the candidate, one of the places we all go now

Washington - The Obama administration is temporarily waiving sanctions on Iran´s state broadcaster, a senior Obama administration official said late Thursday. (Snip) The official said the move comes after the U.S. determined that "harmful satellite interference" was not currently emanating from Iran. The U.S. levied sanctions on Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting last year, charging that the state-run broadcaster was blocking foreign channels that the government found objectionable and citing human rights groups who say the broadcaster distorted and falsified reports. National intelligence chief James R. The new restrictions were among reforms promised last month by President Barack Obama to the controversial anti-terror surveillance program of the National Security Agency. Under the first change, Clapper said, the massive caches of phone records can be searched only after a court finds that there is "a reasonable, articulable suspicion that the selection term is associated with an approved international

London - If you’re unlucky enough to be stricken with a rare medical condition, you´d better hope your doctor watches the right television show. That was the lesson for one German man with severe heart failure and a puzzling mix of symptoms including fever, blindness, deafness and enlarged lymph nodes, which stumped doctors for months. The 55-year-old man was diagnosed only when he was referred to Dr. Juergen Schaefer, a fan of the U.S. television medical drama, ‘‘House.’’ ‘‘After five minutes, I knew what was wrong,’’ said Schaefer, who works at the Center for Undiagnosed Diseases in Marburg,

His deafness won him praise as Japan’s modern-day Beethoven. It turns out his magnum opus was his own masquerade. On Thursday, Japan learned that one of its most popular musical figures, Mamoru Samuragochi, 50, had staged an elaborate hoax in which someone else had secretly written his most famous compositions, and that he had perhaps even faked his hearing disability. Many Democrats in North Carolina have bailed out of Congressional races after being drawn into heavily Republican districts, like the one you are running in. How can you win? 2. What are your thoughts on the Trans-Pacific Strategic Economic Partnership and how it might affect the North Carolina manufacturing industry? 3. House committees are still digging into the IRS political targeting scandal, and based on a hearing Wednesday there´s more to learn. The day produced more evidence blowing apart President Obama´s claims that there was "not even a smidgen of corruption" or political motivation in the IRS handling of groups applying for tax-exempt status. Mr. Obama wants Americans to believe that the targeting resulted from the confusing tax law governing nonprofits, which he says was "difficult" to interpret and resulted in mere "bureaucratic" mistakes. The White House and congressional Democrats tried to limit the fallout Wednesday from the politically damaging conclusion in a Congressional Budget Office report that the Obamacare entitlement creates a major incentive for some people not to work. While some critics focused on a finding by the CBO that Obamacare will result in 2.5 million fewer workers over a decade, conservatives said the bigger fundamental issue highlighted in the report is one familiar to the welfare state — that taxpayer-funded government subsidies provide disincentives for full-time work. “People used to be stuck in jobs because they needed the health insurance,” said
