Walmart security guard shoots
´shoplifting´ mother dead in
parking lot as she tries to
escape with two young children

Daily Mail [UK], by James Nye

Original Article

Posted By:zephyrgirl, 12/8/2012 3:22:51 PM

A 27-year-old mother of two has been fatally shot by an off-duty sheriff´s deputy after he suspected her of shoplifting at a Houston Walmart. Harris County Sheriff´s deputies have said that victim Shelly Frey, Tisa Andrews and Yolanda Craig were stealing when they were confronted by Louis Campbell a 26-year veteran of the force who works as a security guard at the store. According to Campbell the women ran to their car and when he rushed to open the door, they accelerated away - at which point he fired the deadly shot into the car which hit Frey in the neck.

Comments:
Can´t work up a lot of sympathy for this woman. She was clearly shoplifting, then tried to drive away after the cop opened her car door. She migrated to Houston from New Orleans after Katrina.

The poor cop will probably lose his job, though.

The family is probably already working on an excessive force and wrongful death suit.

Remember the pharmacist who got jail time for shooting a robber too many times.Meanwhile the football player who shot his GF 9 times is praised for thanking his coaches for a chance. The players mother who watched the shooting and didn´t intervene is now getting the baby´s upkeep allotment for years to come.

Will not judge yet, but the media are largely inaccurate on this sort of thing, and often intentionally.

They lied about George Zimmerman, and they are probably have at LEAST partial information here. Typically when someone in a car is shot by an officer, it is because they are trying to run him down.

Notice no comments from the officer. Always two sides to a story.

#4, has it already been settled that Mr. Belcher´s mother will raise that baby. I am sure a battle will take place about that and if the team had any brains, they would stipulate that whatever family that gets her is put on a tight money diet so they don´t drain her account.

Our country is experiencing an evil quakening where people are doing stupid horrific things to eachother. It´s too easy to blame this on the effects of being an obama voter. I prefer to know what is it and be prepared for it.

It´s a ´no win´ area for cops.

Another version has the guard inside the open car door trying to have her stop and get out of the car, then the driver puts the car in reverse trying to escape but which could have killed the guard by trapping him under the car.

This makes sense, and if true, the perp got her just reward.

She tried to run over the deputy sheriff, who id´ himself as a Harris County Deputy Sheriff, he was wearing the uniform. She chose to steal, she chose to try and run him over by catching him with an open door of her vehicle. No she didn´t have to die but then she made the choice to be stupid. Instead of stopping and dealing with her actions, she decided to attempt to kill the officer to get away.

Not destitute women but professional thieves, who took children with them while they committed their crimes. The ´security guard´ was a trained Harris County deputy and was clearly identifiable as an officer of the law. The victim took her chances and this time lost the gamble. If she would have adhered to her earlier sworn promise, this never would have occurred - "Earlier in the year she pleaded guilty to stealing shirts and a package of meat from another Walmart and as part of her plea arrangement she agreed to never enter Walmart stores again".

Well, it appears that at the time of the shooting, the dead woman was using the car as a deadly weapon. Dummy.

When will people learn it is illegal to steal? They just keep getting away with it.

And one of the comments is very correct. Those children in the car will never forget it. Hopefully, they have learned a lesson.

A car is a deadly weapon, under some circumstances.
In addition, I have read that Walmart´s policy on shoplifting is to just let them go... apparently the deputy sheriff didn´t get the message.
(Why would he be wearing his official uniform when he was apparently working for Walmart??)

If this is a bad part of town, sometimes the owners of the shopping center (not Walmart) hire security for the site.

Near me, in what used to be a nicer part of ATL is now minority. A T J Maxx, etc, shopping area now had a need for security around the entire shopping area.

Whether or not the shooting was justified depends a lot on the exact sequence of events, who was where, and what they were doing.

As to the kids in the car ... we´re using human shields now at Walmart?

Article didn´t indicate the kids were in the store with the women. If not, the guard probably didn´t know there were kids in the car. The women, commiting crimes, put the children in harms way.

This wasn´t a ´mother´ as the Daily Mail oozes, this was a hardened criminal thief. The guard did the kids a favor, allowing them a chance to be raised by someone with noncriminal values instead of the monster that was supposedly their mother. The guard said he was endangered by her actions and his story seems to stand up. If the guard comes before me as a jurist, I´m letting him off with a full acquittal.

Years ago, I caught a woman putting her hand in my pocket in a shopping mall. She and the young child with her ran off, and I checked my wallet, only to find she had snagged some credit cards.

I called the police, and after waiting about an hour for one to show up, he told me there was nothing he could do, even if he could find the woman. She would have handed off the stolen cards to the child, who would have been instructed to put them in her underpants. The officers, under the law, could only arrest the woman if she had the stolen cards. They could not search the child. That´s one reason why thieves often have kids with them.

I won´t comment on this story until I know more. But as a thief was quoted in our local paper last week, "it´s the Christmas season. I need gifts and money."

Chicago, with its enormously underfunded pension plans, is next in line. Election Day is almost nine months off. But right now Republicans seem almost certain to hold the House of Representatives and are likely to take the Senate. Which raises the inevitable question: How might the GOP seize defeat from the jaws of victory? Two occasions stand out, two obvious obstacles ahead that could lead to disastrous Republican stumbles, two pitfalls on the path to a happy GOP Election Day. Republicans are pretty good at falling into such pits. One is the increase in the debt limit, which Congress will have to deal with in the next month or two. The other

DENVER - Amendment 66, the K-12 education funding measure, has failed in Colorado. Even in Democratic strongholds of Boulder and Denver counties, the measure was failing or barely even. Amendment 66 constitutionally and statutorily would alter Colorado law to change how the state funds education. Firstly, it raises the state individual income tax rate from 4.63 percent to 5 percent on the first $75,000 of taxable income. That is equivalent to $472.5 if you earn exactly $75,000 in taxable income per year. If you earn more, any income beyond the $75,000 is taxed at a rate of 5.9 percent.

Thousands of Californians are discovering what Obamacare will cost them — and many don´t like what they see. These middle-class consumers are staring at hefty increases on their insurance bills as the overhaul remakes the healthcare market. Their rates are rising in large part to help offset the higher costs of covering sicker, poorer people who have been shut out of the system for years. Although recent criticism of the healthcare law has focused on website glitches and early enrollment snags, experts say sharp price increases for individual policies have the greatest potential to erode public support for President Obama´s

Ted Cruz would endure a painful death. By day´s end Allan Brauer was apologizing, but not before galvanizing conservative Republic tweeters against him in a virtual online bloodbath and losing his political position over what the party called ´appalling and inexcusable´ comments.

Carl Guardino, head of the Silicon Valley Leadership Group, came away from a meeting with House GOP whip Kevin McCarthy of Bakersfield a few moments ago on Friday saying he “would bet on” comprehensive immigration reform getting to passage this year. “Kevin is a long-time personal friend,” Guardino said of McCarthy. “We just met one-on-one and I firmly believe, without breaking confidences, that we are going to see deliberative and thoughtful action in the House when they reconvene in September and October.” “I would bet on it,” he added.

The 76-year-old retired general told the Smoking Gun that he met Corina Cretu, 45, roughly 10 years ago when she was working as an assistant to the president of Romania. She is now a member of the European Parliament. ´After I left the Department of State in January 2005 we stayed in touch via email,´ he told TSG.

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa, R-Calif., has accused the panel´s top Democrat of prompting the Internal Revenue Service in 2012 to target a conservative organization applying for nonprofit status. Issa said records obtained last week from the IRS show communications from the office of ranking member Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Md., about True the Vote, a Texas-based, nonprofit conservative group that aims to prevent voter fraud. The communications at one point involved Lois Lerner, the ex-IRS official who Issa´s panel is poised to hold in contempt of Congress on Thursday for refusing to provide testimony about her

Attorney General Eric Holder strayed from prepared remarks to slam the way he was “treated” by a House committee the day before, calling it evidence of “ugly and divisive” civil rights challenges facing him and President Barack Obama. Speaking to the Rev. Al Sharpton’s National Action Network at its annual convention in New York on Wednesday, Holder talked about the state of civil rights today and brought up a House committee hearing Tuesday that grew contentious, according to video from Mediaite and reports from outlets including Capital New York. “The last five years have been defined by significant strides and

The son of the Nevada rancher locked in an increasingly tense land dispute with the federal government, says their cowboys managed to break a blockade and retrieve around 30 head of cattle. Federal agents swooped on Tuesday after Cliven Bundy, dubbed the last remaining rancher in southern Nevada, refused to remove his herd of 900 cows from land he claims has been in his family since 1870. The heavily-armed federal agents, equipped with eight helicopters and backed-up by snipers, surrounded the Bundy ranch after the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) attained a federal court order to confiscate the family´s herd. Barack Obama got quite the handful on Thursday, April 10, but it was all for a good cause! As the President of the United States was boarding Air Force One with his wife Michelle Obama, a gust of wind blew up her skirt. Barack quickly stepped in and grabbed the First Lady´s billowing skirt to help her avoid a wardrobe malfunction and embarrassing Marilyn Monroe moment. Earlier in the week, another famous lady on the global stage suffered a similar snafu, but no one was around to help her -- not even her prince!

A new review is questioning the effectiveness of two key drugs enlisted in the fight against influenza and in turn the investments by governments to stockpile the drugs in the event of a global flu outbreak. The antiviral drugs Tamiflu (oseltamivir) and Relenza (zanamivir ) are commonly used to treat influenza in healthy adults and children. In the case of Tamiflu, the drug does shorten symptoms of influenza by about half a day - as the manufacturer suggests - but there is insufficient evidence to support claims that it reduces hospital admissions or serious complications, such as confirmed pneumonia or

Big Government: As students flood Twitter with images of inedible slop, it´s clear that Michelle Obama´s government school lunch revamp is a costly failure. It´s time to get the feds out of kids´ lunch boxes. The $12 billion federal student lunch program, which serves 30.7 million kids, is losing participants fast — more than a million just last year, according to a recent Government Accountability Office report. The reason: the first lady´s Healthy Hunger-free Kids Act, an act that has accomplished exactly the opposite of what it claimed it would — leaving hungry, angry, disgusted kids and dumpsters full of wasted

Solar power has won the global argument. Photovoltaic energy is already so cheap that it competes with oil, diesel and liquefied natural gas in much of Asia without subsidies. Roughly 29pc of electricity capacity added in America last year came from solar, rising to 100pc even in Massachusetts and Vermont.[Snip] The technology is improving so fast--helped by the US military--that it has achieved a virtous circle. Michael Parker and Flora Chang, at Sanford Bernstein, say we entering a new order of "global energy deflation" that must ineluctably erode the viability of oil, gas and the fossil fuel nexus over time.
