In Michigan, It´s Right To Work
Vs. Right To Pork

Investor´s Business Daily, by Staff

Right To Work: Both chambers of the Michigan legislature pass bills banning union dues as a condition of employment as a Detroit city councilwoman wonders when the pork will arrive. The choice is growth vs. stagnation. Reports of the GOP´s demise may be greatly exaggerated, at least at the state level, as Michigan, birthplace of the modern labor movement and unionism, stands poised to become the nation´s 24th right-to-work (RTW) state. If it goes ahead, it will join recent addition Indiana in challenging union power as Gov. Scott Walker successfully did in Wisconsin.

It´s hard to say whether this will make Mich. a state that employers flock to because the left could bounce back in the next election cycle and knock all this stuff down.

I´m sure they´re already judge shopping to challenge this law to begin with.

It´s still hard for be to grasp how there was such a shift in 2010 but the momentum was lost with Obama getting re-elected.

FTA:´´Private-sector employee compensation in RTW states grew by an inflation-adjusted 12.5% between 2001-11, according to data from the Bureau of Economic Analysis and Bureau of Labor Statistics. That compares with just 3.1% over the same period in states where workers can be forced to join a union as a condition of getting a job.´´

WHEN will union members understand that it is ALL about their leaders´ power and has nothing to do with your health or welfare(well-being)?

What a difference between business oriented republicans and government dependent politicians like Ms. Watson. The divide couldn´t be clearer. The understanding of economics couldn´t be clearer. It´s a clear microcosm of our country. Coleman Young was a corrupt mayor who happened to preside over a booming Detroit economy, none of which he helped cause.

Other than Chicago I don´t know of a city with a more corrupt goverment than Detroit. It is a standing joke here. They have plunged Detroit into a cesspool of graft, bribes, theft and bankruptcy yet have the nerve to demand a handout. It is embarrassing. Rick Snyder is in no way a true conservative but he is a businessman. This is how they roll. The UAW is in a flat panic right now. Loving it.

Congratulations to Gov. Snyder and his Republicans. I am blessed to live in a right to work state and, further, we have no state income tax. Florida has absorbed the great numbers of immigrants from Cuba, Haitti. South Americda, you name it, our federal government has gifted us with and survives.

Detroit is a toe hold away from bankruptcy, which they desperately need to be in. Any money flowing into Detroit should be for demolishing empty buildings and houses. Turn the empty lots back into farm land. Time to clean up the swamp. A good start would be to arrest any public official for fraud - that would include the likes of Mr. Conyers and Dingell.

Political Correctness: Its force structure decimated by sequestration and budget cuts, the Marine Corps considers exchanging its proud and honored look for hats similar to the gendarmes who direct traffic in Paris. If sequestration´s annual spending cuts continue past this year, the Marine Corps will lose 8,000 in troop strength, Commandant Gen. James F. Amos told the Defense Writers Group in June. But those who remain will at least be fashion-conscious if a proposal for changes in their dress headgear goes forward. Men and women in the Marines

Junk Science: Al Gore, patron saint of climate fraud, argues with Australia´s prime minister that its brushfires are not caused by warming and that the record shows the koala bear, like the polar bear, is quite safe. And they occurred in February 1851 during one of the coldest years on record. Bushfires have been part of Australian life for centuries

Regulation: From lost jobs to fewer hours to premium hikes that would make a loan shark drool, Barack Obama´s home state is a case study in why the first rule in health care reform, as in medicine, should be to do no harm. The president and his cohorts in the media have long accused Republicans of being out of touch with ordinary people. A confirmed atheist when he was 15, C.S. Lewis came around to believing in God when he was 31. "I knelt and prayed: perhaps, that night, the most dejected and reluctant convert in all England," he wrote in his autobiography, "Surprised by Joy." Soon he embraced Christianity. A lecturer at English universities, Lewis became a superstar author by explaining his faith and weaving it creatively into novels. Books including "Mere Christianity," "The Screwtape Letters," "That Hideous Strength" and the series "The Chronicles of Narnia" have sold a total of 200 million copies, but he wasn´t always popular.

Whenever energy prices rose, Russia benefited and its neighbors often felt the restraining leash of dependence on Russian energy, particularly natural gas. Okay, THAT was certainly embarrassing. At the end of a joint news conference with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte in the Netherlands on Tuesday, the applause for Barack Obama came from a grand total of one guy. One. After thanking the crowd twice for suffering through his boring, standard worn-out spiel, Obama looked around the room, expecting the usual fanfare and applause he receives from his loyal followers back home. It never came. Instead, the Leader of the Free World was met with one slow, awkward clap. Question: was MSNBC’s Chris Matthews in the house?

U.S. President Barack Obama and Pope Francis met Thursday for the first time at Vatican City, offering a chance for a reset of sorts between the administration and Catholic leadership following years of strained relations. The two world leaders greeted each other with a smile and a handshake, and posed for pictures before sitting down across a table from each other. The goal of the meeting: Focus on areas where two of the world´s most influential men agree and gently tread ground where they differ. According to the AP-GFK survey released Wednesday, 59 percent disapprove of Obama´s job performance while 41 percent approve. A similar poll released by the news outlet in January found 45 percent approved of him while 53 percent disapproved. Other recent polling has found Obama´s disapproval rating slightly lower, remaining in the low 50s. On Tuesday night two things happened. 1. A trio of Secret Service agents were sent home from Amsterdam after one was found passed out drunk in a hotel hallway. 2. The Obama Administration announced (another) extension of the enrollment deadline for Obamacare signups. At first glance, these two events have little in common with one another. But, modern politics is all about narratives and storylines. And, both of these events confirm a growing concern from the public about President Obama: That he´s just not up to governing his administration and, by extension, the country, effectively.

On Tuesday, the White House announced that people who applied for coverage on the federal health-insurance exchange will have until mid-April to finish the paperwork. When Jorge Mario Bergoglio became Pope Francis a little more than a year ago, the first thing that struck those who knew him well was his unexpected, beatific smile. “In Argentina, he didn’t smile like that,” Sergio Rubin, the pope’s biographer, said this week at a conference sponsored by the Ethics and Public Policy Center. “That was the big surprise.” Since then, the pope has mostly kept on smiling — in homilies, in audiences, in meetings with the homeless and the poor. If you look at the pictures from Francis’ meeting with President Obama on Thursday, though, the smile is there only some of the time.
