Priest abuse files may be released
without church officials´ names

Los Angeles Times, by Harriet Ryan & Victoria Kim

Original Article

Posted By:LittleHoodedMonk, 12/7/2012 9:36:24 PM

In its landmark $660-million settlement with victims of sexual abuse five years ago, the Archdiocese of Los Angeles agreed to make public the confidential personnel records of all priests accused of molesting children. (Snip) But the documents have been scrubbed of what many regard as the most important information: the identities of the members of the church hierarchy who reshuffled abusers. The names of the former cardinal, Roger M. Mahony, and the bishops and vicars who handled molestation complaints for him have been redacted by church lawyers at the direction of a retired federal judge

Comments:
This is going to get ugly very soon, again, in time for Christmas season. LA Times, who just raised their daily rates from $1 to $1.50, are out to keep the Archdiocese´s feet to the fire when they should be worried about the fire in the next life for all the harm they print today supporting many liberal causes, many that are anti-Church.

The gentlemen of the Church hierarchy should be in the forefront of those cleaning out the criminals. That´s what Jesus Christ did in His day. But those gentlemen are politicians and bureaucrats first and foremost. Mustn´t make the "organization" look bad, no matter how many of the "little people" get hurt. To paraphrase: suffer the little children to come unto us that we may degrade them.

No good will come of this. This will become a fishing expedition for those who are anti-religion. The priests should be dealt with. The victims will not be served by this.

I am not Catholic but recognize all of the good works the RC Church does for my community. Transferring the assets of the RC Church bank accounts to anti-religious groups, such as the ACLU, does not help my community. It becomes theft of good faith donations.

Responsible officers of any organization who colluded in concealing child abuse belong in prison. These are criminal acts. When you become aware of a potential felony, you don´t get to hold your own investigation, render your own verdict, and then take disciplinary actions in house. You Call. The. Cops. Any priest/administrator who didn´t do exactly that is morally and legally culpable, as is the organization that employed them. These gutless moral imbeciles will probably skate because of statutes of limitations, but at least we can publish their names and ruin their lives. With luck, they´ll burn in hell at some point as well.

Red Cross chief criticises
US drone use in Pakistan

Geneva - Red Cross chief Peter Maurer on Tuesday condemned US drone strikes outside areas officially engulfed in armed conflict, warning against a creeping expansion of the definition of what constitutes a battlefield. Washington’s secretive and controversial use of drones was not a problem in itself, said Maurer, as in the context of an armed conflict drones are considered legitimate weapons. “But if a drone is used in a country where there is no armed conflict…there is a problem,” the head of the International Committee of the Red Cross told reporters in Geneva, urging the “very restrained use” of

A right-wing media pundit from the United States has called for all Muslims to be killed in a ‘sarcastic’ tweet made in response to the Boston Marathon bombings. Erik Rush, a regular on Fox News, appeared to attribute blame to Islamic extremists following yesterday’s blasts, in which at least three people were killed. “Let´s bring more Saudis in without screening them! C´mon!,” he wrote on Twitter. Another Twitter user asked, “Are you Already Blaming Muslims??” – to which Rush reportedly responded: "Yes, they´re evil. Let´s kill them all." Rush later said his tweet was “sarcastic”,

North Korea is a remarkable country. How else would a small state with no economy to speak of manage to create a massive media panic and remain in the headlines for a couple of weeks in a row? The question remains though: if Pyongyang is not about to launch a nuclear strike on the continental United States – and it clearly is not – what has it been up to for the past three weeks? One aim of this political theatrics is rather clear: the North Korean government wants to remind the world of its existence and demonstrate that it is cheaper to make a deal than sanction it.

Arkansas Abortion Law
New York Times, by Erik Eckholm    Original Article

Supporters of abortion rights on Tuesday filed a challenge to the new Arkansas law banning most abortions at the 12th week of pregnancy, calling it a “violation of over 40 years of settled United States Supreme Court precedent” and a threat to “the rights, liberty and well-being of Arkansas women and their families.” When it was adopted last month, with the legislature overriding a veto by Governor Mike Beebe, a Democrat, who called it “blatantly unconstitutional,” the law was the country’s most stringent limit on abortion. Later in March, North Dakota pushed the limit back further, to six weeks

Bombings End Decade

Washington - The bombing of the Boston Marathon on Monday was the end of more than a decade in which the United States was strikingly free of terrorist attacks, in part because of far more aggressive law enforcement tactics in the wake of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. (Snip) Only in 2009, after 13 people were killed in shooting spree at Fort Hood in Texas, did the number of fatalities in post-9/11 terrorism on American soil rise into double digits in a single year. That was a sharp contrast with the 1970s, by far the most violent decade since the tracking began in 1970, the database shows.

Washington - President Obama said on Tuesday that the bombings at the Boston Marathon were being investigated as an “act of terrorism,” though he said law enforcement authorities did not know whether it was the work of foreign or domestic groups or individuals. (Snip) It was the president’s first reference to the bombings as a terrorist attack, after a cautious first response on Monday, in which Mr. Obama did not use the word “terrorism,” even as White House officials confirmed that they were treating it as an “act of terror.” But after a morning briefing from the F.B.I. director,

Amid all the heated, emotional advocacy of gun control, have you ever heard even one person present convincing hard evidence that tighter gun control laws have in fact reduced murders? Think about all the states, communities within states, as well as foreign countries, that have either tight gun control laws or loose or non-existent gun control laws. (Snip) The dirty little secret is that gun control laws do not actually control guns. They disarm law-abiding citizens, making them more vulnerable to criminals, who remain armed in disregard of such laws. In England, armed crimes skyrocketed

Washington - Guantanamo Bay detainee Samir Naji al Hasan Moqbel penned an anguished op-ed for The New York Times yesterday about his suffering behind bars for 11 years — but there was no mention that he was allegedly picked up at Tora Bora in Afghanistan and is believed by US intelligence to have been among a group of hardened fighters protecting Osama bin Laden. What does the trial of a Philadelphia doctor who is accused of performing illegal late-term abortions by inducing labor and then killing the fetuses have to do with the debate over legal abortion? Rep. Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee said today that the Kermit Gosnell trial proves that federal funds should not be used for abortions — an especially odd conclusion to draw given that riders attached to appropriation bills already prohibit the use of federal funds for abortions, except in cases of rape or incest. (Snip) But the effort to use this case to “prove” that abortion is wrong, is wrongheaded.

The conservative lawmaker’s massive pitch to the public signals he is ready to sink or swim with this legislation, which he and fellow “Gang of Eight” colleagues hope will lead to the first comprehensive immigration law in 27 years.

Since he first became a presidential candidate, President Obama must have spent millions of dollars in legal expenses to combat dozens of so-called "birther" challenges seeking the original documents pertaining to his birth. As president, he famously issued an electronic document on the White House website in 2011; the document purported to be his long-form birth certificate, though it is apparently a forgery. In addition, he has taken great pains to hide the paper trail of passport records, college transcripts, and other data -- all of which a prospective employer might require of a job applicant.

Is media bias to blame for lack of Gosnell coverage? Or something far more banal? The trial of Philadelphia doctor Kermit Gosnell would seem to have all the elements of a spectacular news story: shocking allegations, horrifying visuals, sympathetic victims. Yet until late last week, much of the national media was silent as testimony about Gosnell’s alleged “house of horrors” abortion clinic rolled out. Much of the media attention outside Philadelphia, in fact, centered on how little media attention the story was receiving outside Philadelphia.
