Tamra Varebrook’s 8th-grade daughter came home recently with an assignment on liberalism versus conservatism that shocked and angered her because of how it characterized one of the political ideologies. “I looked at it, and reading the description of ‘conservatism’ being that we are the party that wants to restrict all personal freedoms struck me as pretty much incorrect,” she said. Varebrook immediately called the school district in their town of Union Grove, Wisc., and they apologized, saying that the definition was completely wrong.

Two congressional Republicans want to end, once and for all, the attempts of atheist groups and others to remove religious symbols from war memorials. Rep. Duncan Hunter of California and Sen. Richard Burr of North Carolina on Thursday introduced the “War Memorial Protection Act,” which they say will create a “foundation in federal law” for public veterans’ and war memorials that include crosses or similar items. “It is our duty to honor our veterans and their families, and American military memorials around the world stand as testaments to their sacrifice,” Mr. Burr said in a statement.

The fiscal 2014 spending plan, which looks to raise about $1.8 trillion in new revenue, also tackles golf courses, which can no longer be counted as partial tax write-offs, according to ABC. Buried deep in President Obama´s Fiscal Year 2014 budget is a new mandate requiring the states to include parental visitation arrangements in child support orders, the same way custody arrangements are typically settled in divorce cases. The goal is to give noncustodial parents more time with the children who do not live with them. "Recognizing that healthy families need more than just financial support alone, the proposal requires states to include parenting time provisions in initial child support orders," says the budget justification for the Department of Health and Human Services. A Jefferson County Democratic Party official alleged Thursday that two men affiliated with the liberal SuperPAC Progress Kentucky, Shawn Reilly and Curtis Morrison, bragged about secretly recording a private McConnell campaign meeting on February 2. "Why they did it, I didn´t know anything like that. They just got overwhelmed and recorded it," said Jacob Conway, a member of the Jefferson County Democratic Party Executive Committee. Only one of my six children has left New York for economic reasons but the strain of living in this expensive nanny state is weighing heavy on my other five and their families. As a native New Yorker, I´ve seen its middle class population decline over the years due to its neglect of blue collar families which is ironic since this is a Democrat city. With the recent arrests of several local politicians for corruption perhaps New Yorkers will pay more attention to those they put in office. Given their past indifference in local elections this is highly unlikely.
