Michigan Republicans draw
union ire with sudden
votes on right-to-
work legislation

Fox News & Associated Press, by Staff

Michigan Republicans touched off a firestorm Thursday with an abrupt push to pass right-to-work legislation, in what would be a blow to organized labor in the home of the U.S. auto industry. Right-to-work legislation prohibits unions from forcing workers to pay union dues. Unions and their Democratic allies adamantly oppose these laws -- but with little warning, Michigan Republicans on Thursday laid the groundwork to, in a matter of days, make their state the 24th with right-to-work legislation. "This is all about taking care of the hard-working workers in Michigan, being pro-worker and giving them freedom to make choices,"

There´s just something that makes my skin crawl when I see people RESISTING the "Right To Work". Very un-American, historically --- but, it DOES fit in with the NeoAmericanism NOW.

And of course the usual Dem tactics of walk-outs, screaming, wailing, angry mobs storming the capitol building, and threatening of parlimentary tricks have all surfaced.

Keep the spine straight Michigan, you are making history here...

Of course she is, if members have the option of not paying union dues, where is she going to get her union campaign dollars (bribe)?

Such blatant hypocrisy from the Left, who advocate "a woman´s right to choose", but who refuse to allow a "workers´ right to choose". Amazing....

I hope Michigan "choice" workers knew what they were getting themselves into. This will get noisy and ugly and bloody. Union criminals don´t want anyone "choosing" whether or not to join a union.

The Democrats should just walk out- leave the state and hide. Oh, they did that once somewhere else, didn´t they and it failed to work to their childish tantrum tendencies. Oh, Well, never mind then.

A storm that dumped heavy snow and ice across the east coast of the United States this week is the very same weather system that battered southern parts of the UK on Friday, meteorologists have revealed. Incredible satellite imagery from NASA´s Worldview shows the monster storms swirling ´arm-in-arm´ across the Atlantic. The Stateside storm, the latest of many this bitter winter, brought with it heavy snow, sleet and icy conditions that saw thousands of flights cancelled and left 21 people dead, mostly from car crashes. Meanwhile, in Britain´s southern counties, Friday´s dreadful weather caused heavy rain and winds up to

Vice President Joseph R. Biden gave an election-year pep talk to House Democrats Friday, saying their political prospects in the fall will look brighter than they do right now. “Between now and November is three political lifetimes,” Mr. Biden said at the Democrats’ annual retreat on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. “I can’t imagine our prospects being viewed by the press and everyone else as being a whole hell of a lot brighter by the time we turn to September than now.” Mr. Biden said “even with all the difficulties you’re facing now with the [Affordable Care Act], 55 percent of the

Banks can do business with marijuana sellers in states where use has been legalized either for recreational or medicinal purposes, under a new policy the Obama administration announced Friday. In a seven-page memo, the Treasury Department said it will not target bank transactions with marijuana businesses in those states as long as the businesses are properly licensed and the banks are taking steps to make sure the businesses don’t show signs of gang or cartel-connected activity. But banks will continue to be required to report on any suspicious activity they see, even in those states where marijuana use has been

President Obama predicted in an interview airing Friday that immigration reform would get passed before the end of his second term. “I believe it will get done before my presidency is over,” Obama said during an interview with Univision Radio. “I’d like to get it done this year,” he added. However, Obama will likely have little say over whether immigration reform gets across the finish line. House Republicans are sharply divided about the timing of an immigration package, with some saying the issue should remain on the backburner until after the midterm elections.

CAMBRIDGE, Md. -- President Obama told House Democrats on Friday that his executive power to help immigrants who are in the U.S. without legal status is limited and urged them to keep pressing for legislation to overhaul the immigration system. "Don´t take your foot off the pedal," the president said in remarks to a closed-door meeting of his Democratic allies, who were gathered for the party´s annual issues retreat on the Eastern Shore. Hopes have substantially dimmed for immigration law changes this year after House Speaker John A. Boehner (R-Ohio) downplayed the chances that the chamber´s Republican majority would take

A century-old debate over whether presidents should reward political donors and allies by making them ambassadors has flared again following a string of embarrassing gaffes by President Obama’s picks. The nominee for ambassador to Norway, for example, prompted outrage in Oslo by characterizing one of the nation’s ruling parties as extremist. A soap-opera producer slated for Hungary appeared to have little knowledge of the country she would be living in. A prominent Obama bundler nominated to be ambassador to Argentina acknowledged that he had never set foot in the country and doesn’t speak Spanish.

The 2-1 ruling by a U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals panel would overturn restrictions on carrying concealed handguns, primarily affecting California´s most populated regions, including Los Angeles, Orange County, San Diego and San Francisco. Long before Valentine´s Day became Hallmark´s holiday, Feb. 14 marked the day a Roman priest was beaten with clubs, stoned, and beheaded for his attempts to protect people´s right to get married. The origin of St. Valentine, and how many St. Valentines there actually were, remains a mystery. One was a Roman priest, another an Italian bishop, and a third was a clergyman in Africa. The news appears to contradict her insistence that Obama was in the dark about problems plaguing the ill-fated healthcare.gov website in the months leading up to its October 1, 2013 launch. The Hill newspaper reported Thursday that documents released through a Freedom of Information Act request show meetings, events and phone calls where the two were together. They also show at

Less than 24 hours after President Obama illegally rewrote the law he had previously jammed down Boehner´s -- and the country´s -- throat, Boehner handed the budding dictator a clean debt-ceiling hike. Last October, Obama vindictively shut down the federal government upon his having refused to delay ObamaCare, which of course is exactly what he himself lawlessly did on February 10, 2014! Of course, Boehner is hardly in a position to argue now, having foolishly (immensely so) accepted responsibility for the shutdown. At least every week now, there is a new story supporting the narrative of an inevitable 2016 Hillary Clinton presidential bid. Indeed, the conventional wisdom is that it is an absolute certainty that she will run. If anyone is currently saying, flat out, that Hillary isn´t running, I haven´t come across them. Is the inevitability of her run really as certain as the conventional wisdom suggests, and further, is it unfolding in an optimal manner for the potential candidate? In all likelihood, Clinton will not make a final, "go-or-no-go" decision until early next year, after the dust has settled from

The school of literary criticism known as reception theory holds that a text should be studied in light of its effect on its contemporaries, that a reader should be aware of the “horizon of expectations” in which a text is produced. I was reminded of this the other day as I observed, in amusement, fascination, and occasional pity, the reaction of the so-called mainstream media to Alana Goodman’s lengthy and rock-solid report on “The Hillary Papers.” This trove of previously unexamined transcriptions of conversations between Hillary Clinton and her best friend Diane Blair had been collecting dust at the University

Is demonic possession real or the manifestation of mental illness? In assisting priests in nearly 100 exorcisms, Adam Blai has become a true believer in good and evil, God and the devil. Former Allegheny County commissioner Bob Cranmer says he shares that same knowledge. He says his home was possessed. “I’ve seen it; I’ve seen crucifixes bent in half repeatedly. We cheered a week ago, when President Obama used the National Prayer Breakfast to call for release of two Americans. The first is Kenneth Bae, a prisoner of North Korea. Each has been sentenced to long prison terms for “crimes” that only a criminal regime would deem criminal: Bae for ministering to Christians and Abedini for work on behalf of house churches. Alas, the week since Obama’s call confirms a depressing fact about America’s diminished standing in the world these days. Pyongyang packed Bae off to one of its labor camps in the vast
