Small business hiring
plans plunge to record low

Los Angeles Times, by Tiffany Hsu

The job outlook at America’s small businesses is the worst it’s ever been, according to new research. Last month, 21% of small business owners said they expected to lower head count over the next six months — the highest percentage recorded by the Wells Fargo/Gallup Small Business Index since its launch in 2003. In July, the last time the data was compiled, just 10% of bosses said they planned to shrink employee ranks. (Snip) Such a sour forecast suggests “the potential for a serious decline in jobs early next year,” according to Gallup, as well as capital spending reductions

When you´re taxed over 50%, it means you work for half a year for the govt. (for those of you in Rio Linda).
Why bother working half a year when you could be doing something constructive.

In 2013, I will average 3.5. To the politicos, good luck with plans to tax me to death (and beyond.)

I´m not buying much of anything as long as the socialists rule, but I do spend the extra buck to support small businesses, when I don´t use the underground economy. I don´t buy from socialist oligarchs like GE. Socialists detest small businesses. Socialists want everyone to work for the government, or for quasi-government mega-corporations.

The US defence department has delayed an intercontinental ballistic missile test that had been planned for next week at an air force base in California amid mounting tensions with North Korea, according to a senior official. Defence secretary Chuck Hagel reportedly decided to put off the long-planned Minuteman 3 test until next month because of concerns the launch could be misinterpreted and exacerbate the Korean crisis. "This is the logical, prudent and responsible course of action to take," the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity. The test was not connected to the ongoing annual

BOISE, Idaho — Authorities in eastern Idaho are investigating the shooting deaths of two men and a woman whose bodies were found in a home that contained a marijuana grow operation. The deaths took place sometime between Thursday afternoon and evening by someone who had some type of relationship with the victims, the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office said. The bodies were discovered Friday outside Holbrook, a town of about 400 people just north of the Idaho-Utah state line. Authorities said a 2-month-old was found under the arm of one of the victims — 27-year-old Yavette Chivon Carter.

LOS ANGELES — The role of female talk show hosts in late-night TV network history, all 50-plus years of it, can be summed up in two words: Joan Rivers. It takes just another two — Arsenio Hall — to do the same for minorities. There´s no indication that´s going to change in the latest round of musical chairs involving "Tonight" and "Late Night." All the NBC, ABC and CBS showcase jobs at 11:30 p.m. Eastern and later appear likely to remain securely in white men´s hands. Jay Leno is handing off to Jimmy Fallon, with speculation

Young supporters hold signs outside Hillary Rodham Clinton´s speeches urging her to run for president. Audiences listen with rapt attention as she discusses the plight of women and girls in developing countries. Even a long-expected book deal announcement generates lots of chatter. Not long after Clinton stepped down as President Barack Obama´s secretary of state, the "will she or won´t she" question is already following her around like the activists who held dark blue "Ready for Hillary" signs outside speeches at the Kennedy Center in Washington and New York´s Lincoln Center. This past week, Clinton came off a two-month break

NEW YORK -- In case Americans want to scarf down their fast-food even faster, KFC is stripping the bones out of its chicken. The fast-food chain says it´s introducing deep-fried boneless chicken pieces on April 14 as an alternative to its traditional breast, thigh and drumstick pieces. The new offering reflects the growing popularity of nuggets and strips that are easier to eat on the go, as well as Americans´ seemingly endless desire for more convenient foods. KFC says nearly four out of five servings of chicken sold in the U.S. are now boneless. Based on customer trends

The economy has taken a brutal toll on the finances of many Americans these past few years. Unemployment, underemployment, medical and family emergencies and other unforeseen circumstances can result in a tax bill beyond one´s means. The good news: Debtors´ prisons are a thing of the past and the Internal Revenue Service will not seize your paycheck or bank account on April 16. The key is not to hide your head in the sand if you face a payment dilemma. The IRS offers

Melting Glaciers Are Increasing
Extent Of Sea Ice In Antarctica,
Says Counterintuitive Study

Climate change is expanding sea ice in Antarctica, a paradoxical finding that appears to be the result of melting glaciers, according to a new study. As freshwater glaciers melt, cold water sinks into the ocean, keeping the sea colder than it would otherwise be. The fresh water is less dense than seawater, so it floats on the top layer of the ocean, which in turn stays cooler. That makes it easier for the seas to freeze again in the Antarctic fall and winter, scientists say. This negative feedback is expected to continue, they added. Sea ice levels

No more war and Peeps, please. Some people (Peeple?) find it amusing to torment or mutilate Peeps, the sugarcoated fluorescent marshmallow Easter candies in the form of chicks and bunnies (or additional shapes during other holidays). Consider, for example, the sport of Peeps jousting, in which someone places two Peeps chicks (the bunnies don’t work for this game) in a microwave with toothpicks in their chests. As the Peeps heat up, they expand and appear to be jousting with each other. The candy that stabs the other first wins. Both Peeps end up as gooey globs.
