It´s a contest of wills and guess who is winning? President Obama, of course. And that´s because the president is up against the GOP´s equivalent of Churchill´s "Boneless Wonder," Speaker John Boehner. Matched against the president, Boehner is making Ned Beatty´s hapless character from the classic movie Deliverance look downright gritty. Boehner the Boneless Wonder´s beta dog routine is doing much to deep-six the Party of Lincoln. Hyperbole? Don´t grumpy grassroots conservatives grouse incessantly that establishment Republicans are screwing the -- well, putting it more politely, screwing it up
Well, I think it´s mostly that he´s overseeing the demise of the GOP, rather than single-handedly orchestrating it. But he´s doing his best to kill it, don´t misunderstand me. I just think a lot of other folks have had a hand in helping kill it off. Like all those who think the Tea Party and standing for conservative and Constitutional principles are bad things, to be avoided at all costs. :bleaksigh:
John Boehner has the toughest job in Washington and there are those in the party who will not be happy with any move he makes. He has my sympathy and I believe the writer of this piece is being hysterical.
Boehner is not alone, but stands as the spokesperson for those that have already killed the GOP. The demise has already occurred, as evidenced in the election. True conservatives, however, will not die because their values are based on deeply rooted principles that cannot be compromised. Until more of the population shares those convictions, the entitlement distributors and their grateful recipients are in charge.
Republicans are the "real" party. They don´t wallow in denial or live to the vote today. That we leave to the democrats. Republicans have been going to the left, which necessitated the TEA party. Boehner needs to think: Is for the Constitution? Is he for smaller government? Is he for the individual? Is he for growth and jobs for all who want to work? OR Is he for taxing more, so that Obama can flush it down the sewer with THE most stupid spending bills ever known to man? Obama is addicted to spending and Boehner and Republicans do not have to enable his bad habit.
Politics is the only job class in thw world where they take, steal if you will, our money, waste it, blame us and demand more...Boehner is a disingenuous liar, or he would have an honest line of work. Trusting in one man to save everybody and everything died out when George Washington died. He´s a progressive, doesn´t know the faintest thing about the Constitution of the United States and is poised to sell it all for nothing but empty promises and some "I saved everybody´s bacon, re-elect me next time" photo- ops. I cannot believe anyone thinks he can be trusted to do aything but what he has done in the past, what they all have done in the past, and that is to stand on our necks.
Boehner is a spineless RINO and he has been dealt a weak hand by 5 million of us not showing up on Nov 6. Is he doing the best he can with cards he has got? Only the future will tell. Those who instantly jump on him have no viable alternatives beside mass political harakiri.
When the Democrat Party left me, I did as Reagan had done and became a Republican. Now the Republican Party has left me. Where to go now? I wonder what Reagan would have done? For the moment, I’ll just park in the Independent column.
If Boehner is not gone in the next congress, and replaced with an articulate and visionary conservative, the GOP is useless. Time for a new party. Maybe the new Bull Moose Party, perfect if a little diesely sounding for Sarah Palin. But leaders should be looking for candidates now. Boehnerism will include changing the laws to make it nearly impossible for the new Bull Moose to qualify.
Second Post. This is the biggest and most self-destructive bunch of bull crap I have ever read. Someone who is not a friend of the Republican Party is standing back and laughing at this ankle-biting, circular firing squad. Shame on you. Let Boehner alone.
I was shocked at Boehner´s comments on revenue increases on "the wealthy." If I thought that this punitive tax increase--which is what it is--would improve the economy, I would be for it. But it won´t! It won´t even make a dent in the deficit and will take more money out of the economy. It´s a job killer and a recession-inducer. I think Boehner needs to go. We need someone with principles.
For the past few decades, DemonRATS have leaped to the left, looked back and complained that Repugs are "extremely right." Today, the RNC management and many elected"professional´ politicians stand where the DemonRATS were way back when.
Maybe the demise of the GOP will allow the TEA party--or their equivalent--to rise like a phoenix and bring back adherence to Constitutional principles.
Morale at the New York Times took a further blow when news broke of the sale of the Washington Post to Jeff Bezos. Inevitably, a potential sale of the Times to another mega-billionaire seeking prestige and political clout becomes a topic of conversation. Today, Politico, the Washington Post, and others are openly discussing the subject. After enduring a series of cutbacks and very well aware that the company´s business model has failed, the NYT´s staff confronts the possibility of becoming a luxury plaything or worse.
President Obama played it straight, but friendly, last night on America´s top-rated late night TV show. Jay Leno, whose rating have surged as he cracks more and more jokes about the president, played the straight man on the Tonight Show. For Obama, it was a chance to repair his soured imaged, as the campaign´s claim that Al Qaeda is "on the run" now looks like a bad joke (snip)The appearance on a late night comedy show, coming in the midst of a purported terror crisis so severe that it requires an unprecedented closing of American embassies and consulates
Robert B. Reich, the little man with big liberal ideas, has a big idea for bailing out Detroit. It´s a simple big idea, which just goes to show Reich´s genius. Great thinkers get to the nub of things. In a nutshell, Reich wants to make things right in Detroit by expanding its boundaries. Or does he want to expand the burbs´ boundaries to encompass Detroit? Doesn´t matter, really. The key to Reich´s ingenious plan is for miserably failed Detroit to glom onto the burbs for resources -- that would be money, in plain English.
The capital´s ruling class and its vast army of hangers-on (especially the media branch) is abuzz with the sale of the Washington Post to Amazon billionaire Jeff Bezos. For as long as most of them have been adults, the Post has been the arbiter of visibility, able to make or break people in the Washington social whirl, not just respected but feared. After all, it bagged a Republican president. The Graham family reigned at the pinnacle of the permanent social structure in town.(snip)Quietly watching all of this must be the Sulzberger family of the New York Times.
The New York Times Company may be facing some serious scrutiny over its planned sale of the Boston Globe to Boston Red Sox owner John Henry for a mere $70 million, after having paid $1.1 billion in 1993. The owner of the San Diego Union-Tribune, Douglas Manchester, is alleging that his higher bid was rejected by the company. John Lynch of the Boston Herald writes: A losing Boston Globe contender is claiming his San Diego media company outbid Red Sox owner John Henry - and would have gone even higher - a bombshell allegation that he says could delay the deal
In 2008 and then again in 2012, after retired four-star General Colin Powell endorsed and then voted for Barack Obama, the former Secretary of State´s sanity was already in question. At least now, after having his email account hacked by high-level security-breacher Guccifer, Colin Powell´s besmirching of the Republican Party´s "shift to the right" and "identity crisis" finally makes sense. It seems that for years the mannerly and always professional Colin Powell has been cyber-comporting with a 46-year-old Romanian European Parliament member, Social Democrat, and past spokesperson for Romanian president Ion Iliescu named Corina Cretu
I have a suggestion. How about an exhibit on Tawana Brawley? If the purpose of the new National Museum of African American History and Culture at the Smithsonian is to remember racial controversies, as the proposed Trayvon exhibit seems to confirm, then how about an honest look at the phenomenon of hate crime hoaxes? Particular attention should be paid to the role of the media in both the Trayvon and Tawana materials. Unquestionably, the media stirred up racial animus, and these incidents both contributed to raising racial tensions.
A new report from researchers at Georgetown University must be horrifying diversicrats at elite colleges and universities. The report´s title, "Separate and Unequal: How Higher Education Reinforces the Intergenerational Reproduction of White Racial Privilege," gives away the conclusion of the study. Despite all the efforts at affirmative action, as a whole, the top tier of colleges is making racial inequality worse, rather than better. (snip) Sooner or later, history will note that affirmative action deeply damaged the progress blacks were already making in the pre-civil rights era.
To quote Nancy Pelosi, we can now see what´s in the Zimmerman-Martin case "without the fog of the controversy". I think the biggest lesson to be learned was from Rachel Jeantel, a friend of Trayvon Martin that testified at the trial. Rachel Jeantel has just had her 15 minutes. (snip)We shouldn´t turn away from this young woman, though, because she illustrates something so clearly. She doesn´t live in "another world" as her defenders claim, she lives in a prison.
President Obama has now united the world -- not a single country trusts us anymore, because our hero has shafted those who relied on us: Britain, Poland, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Israel, even Syria and Libya. (snip)Obama has been trying to break the Shi´ite crescent by arming and training the rebels against Iran´s ally Assad. In Benghazi, Ambassador Chris Stevens was killed while running Libyan arms to Al Qaida-allied rebels in Syria. It´s not working. The Russians are siding with Iran and Assad, and Iran´s steel trap is threatening to snap shut on the pathetic rabble we support in Syria.
Big labor is threatening to strangle the liberal San Francisco Bay Area in order to protect the principle that government workers should be insulated from the effects of rising medical costs and enjoy generous pensions to which they contribute nothing. Led by the ultra-leftist SEIU, the biggest union representing workers at BART and a progressive movement powerhouse, big labor orchestrated the Bay Area organized left to march demonstrate at BART headquarters in Oakland Thursday night. (snip) about 400 BART workers and their supporters, including actor Danny Glover, chanted for union solidarity
A few days prior to the 2012 presidential election, in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy, New Jersey Republican Governor Chris Christie gave Obama a long, drawn-out hug and silently nodded his head in agreement to every word spoken by the always-opportunistic president.(snip)lately the Garden State governor has been the pure embodiment of Alinsky rule #12, which says, "Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it." What´s making the whole thing so suspicious is Governor Christie´s verbal rancor is mostly being directed toward a specific political adversary of the president, the outspoken Tea Party favorite, Rand Paul
WASHINGTON — U.S. officials insisted Tuesday that extraordinary security measures for nearly two dozen diplomatic posts were to thwart an “immediate, specific threat,” a claim questioned by counterterrorism experts, who note that the alert covers an incongruous set of nations from the Middle East to an island off the southern coast of Africa. Analysts don’t dispute the Obama administration’s narrative that it’s gleaned intelligence on a plot involving al Qaida’s most active affiliate, the Yemen-based Arabian Peninsula branch. That would explain why most U.S. posts in the Persian Gulf are on lockdown, including the U.
The truth about Benghazi, the Associated Press/James Rosen monitoring, the IRS corruption, the NSA octopus, and Fast and Furious is still not exactly known. Almost a year after the attacks on our Benghazi facilities, we are only now learning details of CIA gun-running, military stand-down orders, aliases of those involved who are still hard to locate, massaged talking points, and the weird jailing of Nakoula Basseley Nakoula. We still do not quite know why Eric Holder’s Justice Department went after the Associated Press or Fox News’s James Rosen — given that members of the administration were themselves illegally leaking
Critics of the president are convinced that Barack Obama will do lasting damage to the U.S. I doubt it. Obama came to power in the third year of large Democratic congressional majorities. In his first referendum, he lost the House and he may soon lose the Senate; in other words, there followed a somewhat normal reaction against a majority party. Obama’s popularity rating is well below 50%, despite an obsequious media and a brilliantly negative billion-dollar campaign that long ago turned Mitt Romney into a veritable elevator-using, equestrian-marrying, canine-hating monster. In the second term, there is little
He thought he was a woman trapped in a man’s body — but it turns out he’s “just another boring straight guy.” ABC News editor Don Ennis strolled into the newsroom in May wearing a little black dress and an auburn wig and announced he was transgender and splitting from his wife. He wanted to be called Dawn. But now he says he suffered from a two-day bout of amnesia that has made him realize he wants to live his life again as Don. “I accused my wife of playing some kind of cruel joke, dressing
Former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney jumped into the debate over the GOP’s future Tuesday night, warning congressional Republicans against forcing a government shutdown in their quest to stop President Barack Obama’s signature health care law. Romney addressed more than 200 donors on the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee at a fundraiser for the New Hampshire Republican Party, staged just four miles from the vacation home where he has spent much of the summer with his family. The event was closed to the media, but his office released his prepared remarks.
WASHINGTON — Former Massachusetts lawmaker Barney Frank revealed that he doesn’t believe in God. During Friday’s appearance on HBO’s “Real Time With Bill Maher,” Frank, who championed the decriminalization of pot while serving in the House of Representatives, admitted to smoking marijuana and being an atheist. “You were in a fairly safe district. You were not one of those congress people who would have to worry about every little thing,” Maher said to Frank. “You could come on this show and sit next to a pot-smoking atheist and it wouldn’t bother you.”
The U.S. State Department issued a global alert about the terrorist threat allegedly posed by Al-Qaeda in Yemen. The USA announced the closure of its missions in the Middle East and Africa, and their example was followed by France, Britain, and Germany. However, this was only an attempt to justify the activities of the National Security Agency.Last Saturday, right after alerting of the terror threat civilians and BOLO complex ("be on the lookout") that includes law enforcement and federal officials, President Barack Obama went to play golf, and then celebrated his birthday at the presidential retreat at Camp David.
In a rare diplomatic snub, President Obama is canceling plans to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow next month. The decision reflects both U.S. anger over Russia´s harboring of National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden and growing frustration within the Obama administration over what it sees as Moscow´s stubbornness on other key issues, including missile defense and human rights. Obama will still attend the Group of 20 economic summit in St. Petersburg, Russia, but a top White House official said the president had no plans to hold one-on-one talks with Putin while there.
Washington--As hundreds of commuters emerged from Amtrak and commuter trains at Union Station on a recent morning, an armed squad of men and women dressed in bulletproof vests made their way through the crowds. The squad was not with the Washington police department or Amtrak’s police force, but was one of the Transportation Security Administration’s Visible Intermodal Prevention and Response squads — VIPR teams for short — assigned to perform random security sweeps to prevent terrorist attacks at transportation hubs across the United States.(Snip)With little fanfare, the agency best known for airport screenings has vastly expanded its reach
A poll released Friday by Public Policy Polling found that Alaska voters would pick former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton over the state´s former Republican governor, Sarah Palin, if the two women were to face off in the 2016 presidential election. Clinton led with 49 percent in the hypothetical match-up, with Palin at 40 percent, a nine-point gap. As of July 3, Republicans comprised 27 percent of the state´s registered voters and Democrats made up just 14 percent. The last time Alaskans opted for the Democrats´ presidential candidate was in 1964. Clinton trails five other hypothetical GOP candidates –
Over the last week, there has been a lot of buzz about a supposed CIA angle to the Benghazi story. Specifically, it has been alleged that a substantial number of CIA employees were on the ground in Benghazi, carrying out a mission that involved rounding up Libyan weapons and transferring them to rebels in Syria. Further, it has been reported that the CIA has leaned on its employees not to cooperate with Congressional investigations or the media, and it has been suggested that the CIA’s role in Benghazi may be related to the al Qaeda
The Pentagon has placed its elite cadre of special operations teams on full alert to launch preemptive attacks against suspected al Qaeda targets across the globe, according to reports. The American special forces teams have spent the past week waiting for U.S. military and intelligence officials to confirm the whereabouts of the terror cell plotting to attack U.S. diplomatic outposts in the Mideast and North Africa. Unnamed sources told CNN on Monday that the teams were poised to carry out the preemptive strikes, but declined to comment on where the U.S. forces were located or which potential
