Rank-and-file Republicans hint
at putting tax hikes
on table in fiscal talks

FOX News, by Staff

Original Article

Amid warnings that deadlock in Washington could send the nation plunging into a buzzsaw of tax hikes and spending cuts next month, some Republicans have started to signal a possible middle ground that could involve tax increases on top earners -- even if they´re not as drastic as President Obama wants. House Speaker John Boehner and other Republican leaders are holding firm to their opposition to tax rate increases as part of any deal to avert the looming fiscal crisis. But in recent days, more rank-and-file Republicans have floated the possibility of putting tax rates on the table.

Comments:
It´s time for a strategic retreat.

How long is Obama going to delay tax increases on the middle class? So he defers for a year, once you have demonstrated weakness, what are you going to do when they are used as hostages again next year? What good are bargains when he refuses to honor them in 6 months? Force him to choke on his tax hikes. Cancel every single tax credit that was part of Stimulus and is still being paid as credits to people paying no taxes. End the extensions on unemployment so newly unemployed actively seek jobs.

I held it together until I read GOPers are willing to cut Medicare payments! This makes me sick. Obama already took $500B from Medicare for Medicaid!

I also read Ca. is borrowing another $80B from Obama to start their hi speed rail!

When does reality enter the equasion?

Go over the cliff. Only release funds for debts. Make all gov´t dept.´s & programs produce measureable audit results & give them 85% of 2012 expenditures. De-Fund all dept´s & programs that have no measureable results... or critical need.

FTA: "Under the president´s long-stated goal, tax rates for the wealthiest Americans would rise from 35 percent to 39.6 percent.

However, the president said in an interview with Bloomberg that if Republicans are willing to close certain loopholes and deductions next year, "it´s possible that we may be able to lower rates by broadening the base at that point."

Memo to GOP: Here´s one way to broaden the tax base - Instead of punishing the makers in this country why don´t the you apply Obama´s 4.6% rate hike to all those who pay no federal income tax at all? There are one hell of a lot more takers than makers in this country (the reelection of Obama proved that) and it´s high time the takers start having some "skin in this game". Get an Obama phone? 4.6% tax on each phone - get your 250 free phone minutes a month? 4.6% monthly tax, Earned Income Tax Credit? 4.6% tax, receive any number of other gov´t handouts? 4.6% tax on each one, receive Pell Grants? 4.6% tax, receive Section 8 low income housing vouchers? 4.6% tax etc, etc – the list could be almost endless.

JAKARTA, Indonesia – U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry on Sunday called climate change perhaps the world´s "most fearsome" destructive weapon and mocked those who deny its existence or question its causes, comparing them to people who insist the Earth is flat. In a speech to Indonesian students, civic leaders and government officials, Kerry tore into climate change skeptics. He accused them of using shoddy science and scientists to delay steps needed to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases at the risk of imperiling the planet. A day earlier, the U.S. and China announced an agreement to cooperate more closely on

The further left a radical politician wants to go, the more likely he is to wrap his agenda in a mainstream Republican brand. In his interview with Bill O’Reilly, Obama compared himself to Nixon (not for the reason most Republicans would expect) and in his State of the City address, Bill de Blasio compared himself to Fiorello H. La Guardia; a former Republican mayor of New York City. The constant mentions of La Guardia, a universally popular figure, were a poor mask for a radical address filled with ugly divisive rhetoric, class warfare and schemes that will bankrupt the city.

No one knows the real name of the Port Hills Groper, the Muslim refugee who stalked and attacked over a dozen women jogging in Port Hills, even though he was arrested, tried and sentenced. Instead the New Zealand court gave him “permanent name suppression” to protect his status in his Muslim community. Judge Jane Farish, who had told a Maori rapist who had lured an Australian tourist into a dark street and beat her while trying to tear off her clothing “If I had my way I would release you today,” let the groper off with community service because his actions

For years, experts have been warning people in the American West they will have to make do with less water in the future. That dryer future already may have arrived. This year, for the first time in history, lower flows in the Colorado River have prompted the federal government to reduce the amount of water flowing into Lake Mead reservoir outside Las Vegas. Bureau of Reclamation officials say if the river´s level doesn´t increase soon, there´s a 50 percent chance that by next year, residents in Arizona, southern Nevada and California will have to start rationing water. Lawmakers are attaching some strings to $33 million in aid to Pakistan, making the funds contingent on freeing the doctor who helped the CIA find Usama bin Laden. The GOP-controlled House Appropriations Committee inserted language that appears to withhold the foreign aid unless the State Department certifies Dr. Shakil Afridi is released from prison, where he’s serving a 33-year sentence on a dubious conspiracy conviction. The condition left Pakistani officials fuming. “Any linkage of US assistance to this case is not in keeping with the spirit of cooperation between the two countries,” said Pakistan Foreign Office spokeswoman Tasneem Aslam. Republican leaders on the House Science Committee are accusing the Environmental Protection Agency of disregarding science in its push to impose carbon dioxide limits on power plants. Committee Chairman Lamar Smith, R-Texas, and 20 other Republican lawmakers sent a letter to EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy on Thursday, claiming the agency has "muzzled" members of its independent science advisory board. The EPA released a proposal in September that would set emissions caps for new coal-fired power plants and would likely require the industry to use carbon-capture technology, which involves burying the carbon underground. Twenty years ago, New York’s long nightmare ended with a Giuliani victory over Mayor Dinkins. Now the nightmare returns as former Dinkins staffer and terrorist supporter Bill de Blasio will begin wrecking the city where Dinkins and his Democratic predecessors left off. Bill de Blasio vowed to undo Giuliani’s reforms and turn back the clock on fighting crime and terrorism. Giuliani’s victory was a wake-up call to Democrats that one of the more dangerous cities in the country had rejected their liberal soft-on-crime policies that had made it unlivable. Bill de Blasio’s victory tells them that soft-on-crime is popular again.
