| Amid warnings that deadlock in Washington could send the nation plunging into a buzzsaw of tax hikes and spending cuts next month, some Republicans have started to signal a possible middle ground that could involve tax increases on top earners -- even if they´re not as drastic as President Obama wants. House Speaker John Boehner and other Republican leaders are holding firm to their opposition to tax rate increases as part of any deal to avert the looming fiscal crisis. But in recent days, more rank-and-file Republicans have floated the possibility of putting tax rates on the table.

How long is Obama going to delay tax increases on the middle class? So he defers for a year, once you have demonstrated weakness, what are you going to do when they are used as hostages again next year? What good are bargains when he refuses to honor them in 6 months? Force him to choke on his tax hikes. Cancel every single tax credit that was part of Stimulus and is still being paid as credits to people paying no taxes. End the extensions on unemployment so newly unemployed actively seek jobs.

I held it together until I read GOPers are willing to cut Medicare payments! This makes me sick. Obama already took $500B from Medicare for Medicaid!
I also read Ca. is borrowing another $80B from Obama to start their hi speed rail!
When does reality enter the equasion?
Go over the cliff. Only release funds for debts. Make all gov´t dept.´s & programs produce measureable audit results & give them 85% of 2012 expenditures. De-Fund all dept´s & programs that have no measureable results... or critical need.

FTA: "Under the president´s long-stated goal, tax rates for the wealthiest Americans would rise from 35 percent to 39.6 percent.
However, the president said in an interview with Bloomberg that if Republicans are willing to close certain loopholes and deductions next year, "it´s possible that we may be able to lower rates by broadening the base at that point."
Memo to GOP: Here´s one way to broaden the tax base - Instead of punishing the makers in this country why don´t the you apply Obama´s 4.6% rate hike to all those who pay no federal income tax at all? There are one hell of a lot more takers than makers in this country (the reelection of Obama proved that) and it´s high time the takers start having some "skin in this game". Get an Obama phone? 4.6% tax on each phone - get your 250 free phone minutes a month? 4.6% monthly tax, Earned Income Tax Credit? 4.6% tax, receive any number of other gov´t handouts? 4.6% tax on each one, receive Pell Grants? 4.6% tax, receive Section 8 low income housing vouchers? 4.6% tax etc, etc – the list could be almost endless.

An old folk remedy for bed bugs is being studied by scientists. The remedy — which comes from Eastern Europe — uses bean leaves to capture the parasites, reports The New York Times. Bean leaves are spread around the room with bed bugs. Each leaf is covered in thousands of tiny hooks — similar to velcro — that catch the insects. Just over a week ago, Chicago Public School (CPS) officials announced the closing of 54 elementary schools contained in 61 buildings, located in poor, mostly black and Hispanic neighborhoods. The move represents the largest mass closing of schools in the nation’s history. CPS, facing a projected budget deficit of $1 billion in 2014, insists money spent keeping schools with declining enrollment open can be better used elsewhere. Approximately 30,000 students will be affected by the move. The Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) and many parents are furious, and vow to fight.

Wagner’s great sin, you see, is that in an article in his school’s magazine, he cited “the three-fifths compromise over slavery” as a paradigmatic illustration of the art of political comprise. In the message he issued along with his budget proposal on Wednesday morning, President Barack Obama said he wants to see 4-year-old children in the United States enrolled in public schools. Obama said America needs to start enrolling 4-year-olds to make sure the children are “better prepared for the demands of the global economy” and to help parents save on "child-care costs." In a stunning end to one of the most aggressively unsuccessful tenures in retail history, JCPenney (JCP) last night announced that CEO Ron Johnson would be leaving effective immediately. Myron Ullman, Johnson´s predecessor at JCPenney, takes office as CEO. When Johnson was initially wooed by JCPenney, it was to serve as CEO with Ullman as Chairman. In January 2012, Ullman was unceremoniously removed from the board. Gone with Ullman was any control the Board of Directors had over Ron Johnson and his control of JCPenney resources.

The state of California is reportedly considering legislation that would force group insurance policies to provide infertility treatment for gay and lesbian couples. Two men who have sex with each other for a year and do not produce a baby would be considered “infertile” under the proposed legislation. So would two women having sex. Since biology does not allow those without a uterus to conceive or those without a penis to impregnate, every year-long gay couple in California would potentially be covered by this new provision of California law.
