OP: that´s exactly what I thought. Poor thing. Hopefully she´ll have at least one relative who can help guide her. Otherwise, it´s tragedy on top of tragedy.

I agree - this is none of our business. This concerns their own private financial arrangements, and the whole planet should not have access to information regarding the poor girl´s inheritance. She has no ability to deny the press access to this data, so whoever is functioning as the current guardian and/or trustee is IMHO doing a poor job guarding the child’s privacy. Harm will likely come from this, as well as numerous future lawsuits. As if this kid needed more trouble…

The word windfall in the article is beyond tasteless. Save that word for lottery and contest winners. She received this money in a way NO ONE wants.

I agree that this is a private matter. And I also hope a family court judge will make sure an appropriate trustee is appointed to handle the funds. (That is not a whole lot of money, by the way. And I don´t know what the tax implications will be, but they should enter probate as soon as possible so that the 3 month old will not have to pay because of being rich, under president zero´s definition.)

Apparently his mother and the baby´s mother were close, which would explain his mother´s being there to help with the new baby. An article elsewhere says that permanent guardianship will be up to the court. As will adoption if someone should petition to adopt Zoey.

This is a private matter. Mercifully Zoey is too young to know what happened. I wish her a healthy, happy life among persons who love her and will care well for her.

Now it´s time for us to move on, right?

I hope the funds are used for her only and not squandered. A child doesn´t need $108 a year as a baby. Hopefully, a smart finance person will be able to put most of it into savings.
