Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) warned his conference on Wednesday that leaders are "watching" how the rank-and-file vote to determine committee assignments, according to sources in the closed-door meeting. Boehner addressed the firestorm over the removal of four lawmakers from plum committee assignments at the weekly GOP conference meeting. According to Rep. Tim Huelskamp (R-Kan.), one of the lawmakers denied a spot on his current committee in the next Congress, Boehner did note "that we [leadership] have punished four members, he claimed that it had nothing to do with their conservative ideology, but had to do with their voting patterns."
Comments: What a joke. Republicans specialize in dumping on their own people. The last paragraph tells it all. They weren´t even given a list of the alleged votes that rewarded or punished the members of the committees. Amazing.
As soon as I can get there, I will no longer be a registered Republican. I cannot vote for this bunch led by Boehner. No backbone, no principles, no more money or votes. Done. I will vote only when I think there is someone worth while voting for. You can say, then you are letting them win. No, I see it as Boehner and his ilk letting them win for years and years. Call it caving.
I think 2014 will be a good time to remind Boehner, Cantor and McCarthy that the Tea Party conservatives are the one and only reason they lead the majority in the House. I live 90 miles from Cincinnati and think I will go up there to work to defeat the twitchy-lipped Boehner.
Lucianne should put up a special thread for a few days to let us brainstorm as to what a new party should be, who should start it and lead it, what it should be called, etc. Republican no longer means conservative, yet conservatives are supposedly in the majority in the country. I think a Conservative Party would put republicans out of business in short order.
Boehner ~ When will you get a Clue ~ the Left is cemented together like glue and YOU divide your party. My Congressman ~ Justin Amash is a great young man and a clear thinker and we in this district love him for his openness ~ posting all his votes and the reasons for them on facebook. How refreshing ! Tea Party ~ it´s time to break away and get it on your own.
Boehner knows he´s the speaker of the house because the Dems want him to be. Democrat election fraud is so entrenched, he knows which side holds the cards and it´s not the GOP. He will do the dems´ bidding and the dems don´t want trouble makers in lead roles.
Boehner has no expectation that he will lose if he sides with the dems. They will help him keep his seat as long as it is worth it to them to keep the House under "Republican" control.
The entire Republican party needs to be scrapped and replaced by a party that has not signed off on never investigating Democrat election fraud and lining its own pockets.
Looks as though the elephants are getting WAY to big for their britches. Remember this, ´you ´never forget elephants´ YOU are the majority at the moment only because of conservatives. You want to play dirty and rough? You do so at your own peril. We can leave you as fast as you tend to walk away. Watch us and watch our feet. Careful....your clock is ticking and your time is up. Face it you two bit klowns, you need us much more than we need you traitors. As another poster said today. This is JB just giving Two Won another bonus to add to the scalps. Just as our o great dictator wants his way, ousting conservatives is just another bullet of his agenda. My God, look who has been placed on the finance committee...the loon Maxine Waters.....and JB allowed this why??? JB, did you ever see ´Dallas´ Your character has morphed into JR. Dream on you bugger.
Boehner´s a company man first, a Republican second and conservative doesn´t make the top ten. First and foremost he´s a company man and the company business is Big Government. He has never supported small government conservatism. He kept Jeff Flake, my new Senator, off the appropriations committee because of his crusade against pork.
I see a groundswell biulding up of people coming to face the truth of the demise of the republican party - and not before time. The leadership continues to be pitiful. They sold out their principles a long time ago. Forget party identification and get the best men and women who will uphold the constitution and properly represent their constituents. They thumbed their collective nose atthe newly electeds with the energy in favor of compromised dead wood.
The actions of the TEA party conservatives are what put Boehner in the role of Speaker of the House. Now he spits on conservatives. And kisses the arse of Obama. We will not forget this, Boehner. Is everyone aware that Boehner preferred a democrat in Michele Bachmann´s seat and told the RNC NOT to fund her campaign? She received not ONE cent from the RNC in her hard fought race for re-election! I guess she was too conservative for King Boehner.
About 6 years in Congress rots a person´s ethics and morals. Boehner has more in common with Reid, Pelosi, Biden, and Obama than he does with you and I. Work to elect conservatives and give no money to the RNC.
Reading this Detroit News story about the tale of a $1 million dollar check that ended up in a desk drawer for a month before being deposited, I tried to imagine what the city employee was thinking when they so casually and negligently dealt with Detroit’s money. I came to the conclusion that the employee wasn’t thinking — period. As the story makes clear, city employees, their managers, on up the chain to their political masters — all have embraced a dysfunctional mindset where they believe the problems of the city are so immense,
Anthony Weiner’s campaign fund-raising has virtually dried up since revelations of a sexting relapse rocked his bid for mayor. Weiner (inset) received an average of just $1,897 a day in donations since the new sexting scandal erupted July 23, campaign finance records released Friday show. That’s a trickle of the $16,434 he received each day, on average, in the 50 days after launching his run for mayor on May 22. The records also show that Weiner’s wife, Huma Abedin, collected no money on his behalf
Because a media that should be in competition with one another instead protects one another, there is no mention of CNN chief Jeff Zucker´s connection to Cory Booker´s online start up in this MSNBC piece. But when you have MSNBC fretting that the stench around a company attached to a Democrat rising star stinks, it is worthy of note: If Aaron Sorkin were to craft a movie about Newark Mayor Cory Booker, you can bet that Waywire, Booker’s controversial technology start-up, would provide a cautionary tale for the mayor’s voracious ambition.
Despite political pressure from both sides of the aisle, there are talks happening behind the scenes that may lead to an unlikely team working together to produce this controversial Hillary Clinton miniseries. The New York Times´ Bill Carter reports the "odd" team of NBC and Fox Television Studios are in early talks to co-produce the four part Hillary Clinton miniseries, released in 2016 ahead of a yet-to-be-announced presidential run, that network chairman Robert Greenblatt announced last week at a Television Critics Association panel. The Hollywood Reporter says this is happening, too. Neither company seems to care about
Ames, Iowa — Representative Steve King (R., Iowa) says he’s “enjoying” his job, but refused to rule out a presidential bid in 2016. King, whose upcoming visit to early primary state South Carolina ignited talk that he might be thinking about the presidency, tells National Review of 2016, “I haven’t ruled anything in or out. I’m enjoying my job.” “I’ve watched here as any member of the house or senate that sets foot on Iowa soil … [it] starts a rumor that they’re running for president. And I’ve been coming back here to Iowa over and over again,
There’s still a real chance that the Captain Schettinos of the House Republican brain trust will rescue Obama’s presidency by passing an amnesty. But some in the open-borders crowd are getting nervous about John Boehner’s ability to achieve Obama’s objectives. Their fear is that this session of Congress will end with no amnesty bill on the president’s desk, or with one whose criteria they consider too draconian. Their fallback strategy? Have Obama amnesty the illegal population by administrative fiat.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada said Friday that Obamacare isn´t the final word in government health care reform, it´s just a big step toward the real solution, which is a single-payer system. The Las Vegas Sun reports that Reid made that statement during an appearance on a Nevada PBS news discussion program: "Reid said he thinks the country has to ´work our way past´ insurance-based health care during a Friday night appearance on Vegas PBS´ program Nevada Week in Review. "´What we´ve done with Obamacare is have a
Over the last few days, militant atheist author Professsor Richard Dawkins has caused an uproar with a Tweet that transcended the bounds of Twitter and made it into the (mostly British) mainstream media. Dawkins tweeted: “All the world’s Muslims have fewer Nobel Prizes than Trinity College, Cambridge. They did great things in the Middle Ages, though.” I had once considered tweeting something similar — that the inventions of Jewish doctors had saved more Islamic lives than all the imams in history put together — but
Americans renouncing U.S. citizenship surged sixfold in the second quarter from a year earlier as the government prepares to introduce tougher asset-disclosure rules. Expatriates giving up their nationality at U.S. embassies climbed to 1,131 in the three months through June from 189 in the year-earlier period, according to Federal Register figures published today. That brought the first-half total to 1,810 compared with 235 for the whole of 2008. The U.S., the only nation in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development that taxes citizens wherever they reside, is searching for tax cheats in offshore centers,
The IRS official in charge of the exempt organizations office in the Cincinnati branch at the time conservative groups applying for tax-exempt status were unfairly targeted just got a promotion. Cindy Thomas has been appointed to the senior technical adviser team for the Director of Exempt Organizations. Thomas, a 35-year IRS veteran, will fill the spot vacated by Sharon Light. Light, a one-time close adviser to Lois Lerner, is the sixth senior IRS official to leave the agency. Lerner is the employee at the center of the political storm that hit the nation earlier this year. She was
AILES: Well, generally I don’t confirm or deny any rumors; that’s a rumor at the moment. However Megyn has earned a better time period, she’ll be in our prime time lineup. But I must quickly say that all of our stars will be back. We have new deals with Hannity and Greta and Shep. Shep and I have been working quietly on something we’ll roll out, probably in mid September, about how news is presented. I think it’s kinda done in an old fashioned way and I think we have a
The conservative Republican Study Committee (RSC) is preparing to unveil legislation that would replace ObamaCare with a new set of healthcare reforms. A spokesman for RSC Chairman Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.) confirmed Friday that members of the group will introduce their measure after the August recess. "Chairman Scalise and the RSC Health Care Working Group are drafting legislation to repeal ObamaCare and replace it with a conservative alternative that fixes the problems in our healthcare system without the harmful taxes and mandates in the President´s law,"
The owner of a shop in Zurich where US talk show host Oprah Winfrey says she encountered racism has called the incident a "misunderstanding". Winfrey, one of the world´s richest women, claimed an assistant refused to serve her in an upmarket handbag shop. She was apparently told one of the bags on display was "too expensive" for her. Shop owner Trudie Gotz told the BBC that Winfrey was "absolutely allowed" to look at the $35,000 (£22,500) bag, which was kept behind a screen. "My salesperson wanted to give her the handbag in her hand. But she didn´t want
Nobody tells Oprah she can´t afford a handbag. Oprah Winfrey is one of the richest entertainers in the world, thanks to her willdly successful 25-season run on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" and her latest media foray with the newly revitalized Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN). The entertainer earned an estimated $77 million from June 2012 to June 2013 alone, according to Forbes, but she says she still experiences racism because she is African American. Take this latest incident in Switzerland, where "The Butler" star went to attend the nuptials of good friend and singer Tina Turner last month.
Nanny State: If any question remained about the Obama White House´s appetite for running everyone´s life from Washington, it should be settled now. This administration even wants to dictate neighborhood makeup. Like your neighborhood? Don´t get used to it. The Obama Department of Housing and Urban Development might decide it wants to dictate changes. HUD is, according to Fox News, considering "a new rule that would allow the feds to track diversity in America´s neighborhoods and then push policies to change those it deems discriminatory." The proposed rule, disclosed last month by HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan at
In a remarkable admission that is likely to rock the Internal Revenue Service again, testimony released Thursday by House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp reveals that an agent involved in reviewing tax exempt applications from conservative groups told a committee investigator that the agency is still targeting Tea Party groups, three months after the IRS scandal erupted.. In closed door testimony before the House Ways & Means Committee, the unidentified IRS agent said requests for special tax status from Tea Party groups is being forced into a special "secondary screening" because
“IQ is a metric of such dubiousness that almost no serious educational researcher uses it anymore,” the Guardian’s Ana Marie Cox wrote back in May. It was a breathtakingly ignorant statement. Psychologist Jelte Wicherts noted in response that a search for “IQ test” in Google’s academic database yielded more than 10,000 hits — just for the year 2013. (Snip) There is a large discrepancy between what educated laypeople believe about cognitive science and what experts actually know. Journalists are steeped in the lay wisdom, so they are repeatedly surprised when someone forthrightly discusses the real science of mental ability.
Tonight, I went on Lawrence O´Donnell´s show, and Lawrence O´Donnell yelled at me. Or, rather, he O´Reilly´d at me. That O´Donnell interrupted and harangued and mansplained and was generally an angry grandpa at me is not what I take issue with, however. What bothers me is that, look: your producers take the time to find experts to come on the show, answer your questions, and, hopefully, clarify the issue at hand.
The Clintons have decided to rent a different house in the Hamptons this summer after they only received a small portion of their security deposit back from the home they rented last year. The famous Democrats have been frequent visitors to the expensive summer getaway in Long Island, and rented the same beachfront house in 2011 and 2012. [Snip] When it comes to rentals in the Hamptons, many owners use the security deposits as a way to pay for the utility fees like heat and grounds-keeping charges. It should be little surprise then that the Lily Pond Lane home
At a White House press conference Friday afternoon, President Obama said that health insurance plans offered under Obamacare will be "significantly cheaper" than plans currently on the market, but a string of recent reports say that isn´t true. "What happens on October 1, in 53 days, is for the remaining 15 percent of the population that doesn´t have health insurance, they´re going to be able to go on a website or call up a call center and sign up for affordable, quality health insurance at a significantly cheaper rate than what they can get right now on
WASHINGTON—The White House announced that President Barack Obama will award the Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian award, to 16 recipients including television star and businesswoman Oprah Winfrey, legendary Washington Post editor Ben Bradlee and former President Bill Clinton. “The Presidential Medal of Freedom goes to men and women who have dedicated their own lives to enriching ours,” Mr. Obama said in a statement released by the White House. “This year’s honorees have been blessed with extraordinary talent, but what sets them apart is their gift for sharing that talent with the world.”
Justice: The wife of a Fort Hood survivor claims the Defense Department is "slapping victims with gag orders" and telling family members not to talk to the press following testimony in the trial of Nidal Hasan. One of the great scandals of the Obama administration has been its shameful designation of the Nov. 5, 2009, rampage at the Army base in Killeen, Texas, by Maj. Nidal Hasan as "workplace violence." It has only compounded the pain and suffering of the victims and their families who have now apparently been ordered to shut up about it.
The Washington Post is a legend in the minds of the Washington elite, so its financial decline has caused quiet panic. As NPR media reporter David Folkenflik put it, “You think of stories like the Pentagon Papers, Watergate, these are all stories where The Washington Post led the nation’s understanding, the world’s understanding of some major issues.” Outside the liberal media, you wonder how long Post fans can wallow in their Nixon-crumbling polyester “glory days” in the early 1970s. But nostalgia ruled as the Graham family sold the Post to Jeff Bezos, the billionaire founder of Amazon.com.
Forty to 50 House Republicans will support immigration reform, Rep. Luis Gutiérrez (D-Ill.) predicted Thursday. Gutiérrez said many of the Republicans supportive of immigration reform don’t want to be identified, but he insisted they would support comprehensive immigration reform. “If they ask me today, go find those 40 to 50 Republicans, I’ll tell them I found them. I know where they’re at,” Gutiérrez said in an interview with Ed O’Keefe at The Washington Post.
