I have a flock of kids I have sacrificed the time to educate properly. They were not consulted, but I guaran-damn-tee none of them would tell any pollster that they wanted government to do MORE!

OP, you are exactly right. They did their job extremely well while we conservatives had our thumbs up our noses and kept repeating, "It can´t happen here, it can´t happen here."

It´s very disheartening that so few people see the role of government so very far removed from what was perceived by the Founding Fathers. A shame...and it portends a bleak future for what used to be America.

I´m 56 now but even as a teenager or a young 20-something in college during the Carter fiasco years I never wanted bigger government. Even then I knew the perils of larger government.

I weep for the future of this country.

And I saw plenty of them in Portland, Maine´s old port district over the holiays.

Sitting on a bench eating a slice of pizza from Slice the restaurant I overheard this conversation as three young man-boys walked past.

Boy A: ......so that´s why I voted Democrat.
All: Yeeeeeaaaaaahhhh.
Boy B: My father voted for Romney but also for (democrat candidate for Maine Senate - name escapes me). MY FATHER DOESN´T MAKE ANY SENSE.

I laughed so hard I almost choked. These boys are lost until they are on their own for a couple years and have to pay the bills.

Youth is lost

When all the conversation is about problems and government, you´d expect the young to conclude government is the answer. It´s the quickest, least controversial answer. But it´s also a reflection of what´s popular right now. And what´s popular now changes all the time. And Big Governemnt can be quite unpopular given te time and opportunity it has right now.

You will be, #1, if you plan on living another 18 months or so.

The Census has extended the term "childhood" until age 30. I thought that was weird, but maybe they are spot on.

Ask them if they are willing to pay for all those government service. I bet the overwhelming answer will be No!
But many younger (not all, by any means) seem content to live off of others as long as they have an I-Phone, birth control pills, and access to MTV.

Young voters are much more socially liberal than what they hear from Republican campaigns. Until we get past that we will never convince them of why small government is best. Actually they hear Republican conservative social policies as coming from intrusive government, not small government.

Perhaps the school lunch program the kids all hate will be enough to convince the next generation down that Gov. is not their friend.

We spent Thankgsgiving with my husband´s family and his neices and nephews, obama voters, fit this mold. These "kids" range in age from 25 to 31, they´re single and under or unemployed. And not a one of them of them is embarrassed that they´re still living at home!

I blame public schools for filling their heads with socialist ideas and their divorced mothers. Being divorced doesn´t mean you will raise overly dependent children but my sisters-in-law have. They don´t want their kids to grow up, leave the nest and leave them alone. Their kids really don´t see why mom shouldn´t go on providing the basics for them and what she can´t provide, the government should.

Ummm - - did they ask these same "young people" who Joseph Stalin was or to name some of the Captive Nations?

How about MacArthur, Patton, and Eisenhower - - can any of the young ´uns tell us who those folks were?

we´ve discussed that we are relatively happy that we´re looking back at most of our lives, rather than looking forward. I´m pretty certain I won´t be liking what happens in the USA 10-15 years in the future.

They aren´t smart enough to understand that the bigger government they want, they will be paying for the rest of their lives. They think mom and dad are going to pay for everything they want forever. When mom and dad run out of money, guess who that bigger government is going to look toward to pay the bills?

Many young voters also believe in the Easter Bunny. That is why they are called "young voters".

Let´s not be too quick to blame the youth voters. The AARP crowd has long been in the democrats pocket. They still are. Did you notice the Florida vote?

The lack of adversity softens people and makes sissies of (many of) them. The problem is not confined to America but is endemic in the West generally. Never in history have so many had it so good, so safe, so easy for so long. But the better people have it, the safer and easier their lives, the more they complain and the less able and willing they are to cope with difficulties. Advanced civilization, by its very success in eliminating most serious difficulties, engenders a kind of disuse atrophy and infantilization of coping skills. This is happened before. It is a known fate of advanced societies. The record of history shows us that the cure -adversity, real struggle- is seldom long in coming once things reach this stage. Obama and Leftist ideology are representatives of cultural decadence arising from lives that have become too easy, secure, and undemanding. More modern Leftist ideology than is commonly acknowledged is the result of simple boredom. People do not know what to do with themselves, they have it so easy and have so much time on their hands, face so little risk and danger, that they must script personal psychodramas in which they play heroes and heroines rescuing society or somebody from the clutches of various stereotypical and largely imaginary villains.

Adversity is the cure for moral and physical flabbiness. Thanks to Obama & Co., the cure for our condition is even now well on the way.

So. The majority of young voters also don´t know who is the V.P. of the United States nor where most of the countries of the world are located. That includes most of college kids. Add to this their complete lack of moral sense, and you have an electorate who are more than willing to follow demagogue like Obama who offers them goodies and entertainments and demands only their votes.
