Mark Levin: 90 percent
of sports broadcasters ´are
really stupid, stupid people´

Daily Caller, by Jeff Poor

Original Article

Posted By:CarrotFarmer87, 12/4/2012 12:42:46 PM

On his Monday show, conservative talker Mark Levin reacted to pleas for stricter gun control laws from some sports media figures, including NBC’s Bob Costas, in the wake of last weekend’s murder-suicide of Kansas City Chiefs player Jovan Belcher. Levin’s verdict? Most sports broadcasters are “really stupid people.” “I could never stand that little hobbit Bob Costas,” Levin, author of “Ameritopia: The Unmaking of America,” said. “He’s a liberal. Looks like he’s had some face work, his hair’s been dyed. So he’s all rework. One thing these surgeons can’t give him is height.”

Comments:
Sports broadcasters are always trying to inflate their egos by dabbling in areas they aren´t trained in.

I don´t think I´ve ever seen Bob Costas, so I googled. His height comes up as short as 5´3" and as tall as 5´9".

Wiki says: Following high school, he was majoring in communications and rhetorical studies at Syracuse University, before he dropped out of school.

There´s the explanation! Rhetoric is defined as: 2.Language designed to have a persuasive or impressive effect on its audience, but is often regarded as lacking in sincerity or meaningful content

No wonder he ended up doing sports commentary.

Back in the early 90s I had a 10ft sat dish that would pick up network live feeds that weren´t meant to be seen by the general public. I´ve seen Costas getting his make up applied and it was obvious what a prima donna he was. Never have been able to tolerate him.

Full disclosure, I dye my hair. But every time I see Costas´ laughable hair dye job, I wonder ´shouldn´t he be able to afford better?´ And don´t get me started on that horrible toop he wears. As far as the obvious plastic surgery, it´s hard enough to do it well on women , but it rarely works on men. Short, bald , & plastic is no way to go through life, Costas! Phony.

I´m not alone in flippantly calling sports journos "jock sniffers", it´s not a throw away cheap insult. I´ve worked in news, been in locker rooms and seen the interaction between the jocks and journos. It can be very strange and uncomfortable.

Not to say there hasn´t been great writing about athletics, there has.

Somewhere along the way, sports became a conduit for bigger sociological agendas from the media. As slanted as general news is, sports news is worse. Today it´s a runaway train.

1. There´s no doubt the evidence supports Levin´s contention.

They all seem sure that the very, very best players in any and every sport played in the last 10 or 15 years. The lack of perspective, not to mention any depth of knowledge on a sport´s history, is jaw-dropping.

2. "Smart" sportscasters -- some are certainly much smarter than others, but without engaging them in a ranging conversation, it´s hard to tell how much of that apparent intelligence is real. I´d add Chris Berman and Tom Jackson to the list, and agree on Collinsworth.

3. Abuse and ignorance of language: how many "degrees" of "unique" do we hear from them in, say, a week? It means "one of a kind." How can something be "sort of one of a kind"? While this next goes double for jock-to-sportscaster converts, it applies to the SCs, too: how many hours a day, or week, does a pro athlete devote to both game specific skills and general fitness? OK, now how many hours a week do these people who "earn their livings" using English devote to language competence? I´d bet not one in ten spends a single hour.

4. "Dead air." Shut up! Shut up! We know he made the catch. We just saw it! What´s worse than "dead air"? Deadening air!

5. Clothes: my eyes! My eyes! Plaid suit, checked shirt, and striped tie! Tie knots big as my fist [Merrill -- Pratt knot!] And those wacky wide-spread collars that look like the wings of a landing seagull! Where is Gallagher when we need him?

On his Tuesday radio show, conservative talker Mark Levin defended the GOP senators who are threatening to filibuster new gun control laws and argued that any attempt to threaten gun ownership would be unconstitutional. “The Second Amendment belongs to you and me, like the first, like the third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth, tenth — like the rest of the Constitution,” Levin, the author of “Ameritopia: The Unmaking of America,” said. “It’s not up for grabs. Is the Senate holding a constitutional convention? Well, it looks like it’s just about to.”

On Sean Hannity’s Fox News program earlier this week, Dr. Ben Carson, the director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital, offered his view on the hot-button issue of the week, same-sex marriage. According to Carson, marriage is defined as between one man and one woman, what he called a “well-established, fundamental pillar of society.” And Carson said this institution could not be redefined by any group, including proponents of bestiality and pedophilia. Invoking those groups drew the ire of many, but Carson went on MSNBC’s “Andrea Mitchell Reports” to clarify his remarks,

On Dennis Miller’s radio show on Tuesday, Washington Post columnist Charles Krauthammer warned that while the Cyprus bailout may appear to involve a “trivial” amount of money, it could set the stage for wide-reaching consequences. Krauthammer compared the Cyprus situation to the 1914 assassination of Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand, which began the dramatic spiral towards World War I. “The first thing that strikes me is how tiny this whole thing is,” Krauthammer said. “I mean, it could have ripple effects the way, you know, Sarajevo did in 1914. Only one of my six children has left New York for economic reasons but the strain of living in this expensive nanny state is weighing heavy on my other five and their families. As a native New Yorker, I´ve seen its middle class population decline over the years due to its neglect of blue collar families which is ironic since this is a Democrat city. With the recent arrests of several local politicians for corruption perhaps New Yorkers will pay more attention to those they put in office. Given their past indifference in local elections this is highly unlikely.

LOS ANGELES — Jonathan Winters, the cherub-faced comedian whose breakneck improvisations and misfit characters inspired the likes of Robin Williams and Jim Carrey, has died. He was 87. The Ohio native died Thursday evening at his Montecito, Calif., home of natural causes, said Joe Petro III, a longtime family friend. Petro said Winters died of natural causes and was surrounded by family and friends. Winters was a pioneer of improvisational standup comedy, with an exceptional gift for mimicry, a grab bag of eccentric personalities and a bottomless reservoir of creative energy.
