| Some commentators wonder why President Obama always engages in brinksmanship. Why can´t he meet Republicans halfway, like Clinton did, they ask. Let me try to respond. The blogger suggests that Obama prefers to play chicken, taking the nation right to the edge of a fiscal disaster because it will increase the likelihood that the GOP will cave. Perhaps, but there´s more to it. Many of us warned that Obama is not, by nature or ideology, a conciliator. He is not a centrist, and he´s not someone who is interested in the other side´s ideas.

Compared to the real fiscal cliff, the January 1 event is merely a very large speed bump. Congress put this into law a year ago. Simply put, we did live with the Clinton tax rates. They won´t generate as much income and they will drive us into another short recession. But more Americans will pay taxes and there will be cuts in both entitlements and military,
Yes, the Democrats will immediately call for an extension of some of the rates. But that means a debate of what rates get extended for how long, and with what offsets. The Democrats don´t want that debate, they want the top rates to got up every year plus new inventive ways to collect revenue. Give them revenue from everyone in system that they claim has worked before and you throw a monkey wrench into their a-new-rate-change a year slow death.

The automatic cuts WERE passed by Congress.
Let the cuts begin!
It was Congress who designed this legislation so let THEM be accountable for their own handiwork!
Both Parties will have to bear the consequences for cutting spending and increasing taxes to save our Republic.

The GOP needs to be stronger and more courageous than they ever have. The pressure on them will to cave will be immense - but they must not!
If they cannot get a good deal with substantive cuts NOW - they must call Obama´s bluff and go over the cliff. And then when the pressure intensifies - stay strong and insist on real tax reform - not reinstating the middle class Bush tax cuts.
Please pray for the House republicans to find their courage and resolve!

Quite frankly, I am prepared to accept a weak military. Since NATO is now taking orders from The Muslim Brotherhood, the less American blood spilled defending ruling by Shariah Law, the better.

I’m not sure how widely it was known that Jonathan Winters, whom Robin Williams thought the best comic of his generation, was a conservative. In any case, I sometimes used to show students in my classes on the American Founding the early scene from “It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad World” where the whole gang tries to deliberate about how to divide the loot fairly when they finally got to the site where the loot was hidden, and how it could illustrate . . . the “great compromise” of the constitutional convention of 1787 in Philadelphia.

Perino was surprised not only by how much attention her performance got online, but also by the tone of that attention. Only one of my six children has left New York for economic reasons but the strain of living in this expensive nanny state is weighing heavy on my other five and their families. As a native New Yorker, I´ve seen its middle class population decline over the years due to its neglect of blue collar families which is ironic since this is a Democrat city. With the recent arrests of several local politicians for corruption perhaps New Yorkers will pay more attention to those they put in office. Given their past indifference in local elections this is highly unlikely.

LOS ANGELES — Jonathan Winters, the cherub-faced comedian whose breakneck improvisations and misfit characters inspired the likes of Robin Williams and Jim Carrey, has died. He was 87. The Ohio native died Thursday evening at his Montecito, Calif., home of natural causes, said Joe Petro III, a longtime family friend. Petro said Winters died of natural causes and was surrounded by family and friends.
