In a move not publicly announced, former Rep. Dick Armey, the folksy conservative leader, has resigned as chairman of FreedomWorks, one of the main political outfits of the conservative movement and an instrumental force within the tea party. Armey, the former House majority leader who helped develop and promote the GOP´s Contract with America in the 1990s, tendered his resignation in an memo sent to Matt Kibbe, president and CEO of FreedomWorks, on
Forget the scattered groups claiming the Tea Party title. The tea party movement´s beauty is that it has no leaders and no organization, but a common goal of fiscal responsibility and smaller government.
Dick Armey was my congressman in his early days and he was a good one. He lost most of us, though, to redistricting and then the final coffin nail was when he attempted to pass his "crown" to his son. North Central Texas is not Chicago or Harlem. We resent such tactics and the Armey son was soundly defeated.
I was at the Tea Party rally in DC that I believe was originally organized by Dick Armey. Combined with the Tea Party Express it was a fantastic event with some really great people. It let millions of people believe that they could be heard. It was a great moment for America.
While composed primarily of conservatives there was almost no mention of abortion or gay marriage. I´ve never seen any sign of racism. By not having a national leader the press (yes MSM) was able to foster a racist straw man as the Tea Party and that has pretty much suppressed the outward reach of the Tea Party. Sad to see Dick Armey go.
Frankly, I have long since been disgusted with the legions of political opportunists and entrepreneurs of no partcular belief who, seeing the spontaneous rise of the Tea Party, hijacked the movement, claiming they represented the Tea Party. Tea Party Express, Tea Party Patriots, Freedom Works, whatever. They have made tons of money, lots of noise, and have gotten lots of facetime on TV and on the Net, with little to show for it I notice. They are a five-input, one output machine.
I suspect that while Armey declines to state his differences with Freedom Works, his disaffection is probably something along these lines.
There isn´t any "Tea Party" in the sense of a Republican Party or a Democrat Party. There is no organization. The Tea Party is just a bunch of folks who are fed up with the way the country is being run.
Just not fed up enough to show up on November 6...
The TEA Party started out great...then was hijacked by the anti- abortion, anti-gay and all the anti everything people... the media loved it...I am as anti-abortion as the next person ..but look what it got us in MO and Indiana.. They figured out all they had to do is say I am anti-abortion and ..shazam.. they were the TEA Party choice. I for one am tired of the conservatives being defined as all about abortion... religion birth control... The media has a field day with it and we have fools that talk about rape as if it is a passing thing...Until we get on issues above the waistline we will continue to loose. Look where we are now... we are at the mercy of the Muslim loving thug in the WH and a bunch of cowardly Repubs in Congress.. God help us.
9, 10 and 11 are right.. there is no "Tea Party".. i watched live "Rick´s Rant" on cnbc and saw something.. PEOPLE.. all kinds of PEOPLE deciding to fight.. once election fraud is handled the PEOPLE who adhere to Tea Party IDEAS will be heard.. as far as i can see the DEMOCRATS were heavily involved in the MSM touted "Tea Party"..
The main force behind the contract for America is a rino?, pretty soon Reagen will be a rino. I agree with # 11, I´m pro life, but I also believe the religious right has hurt our cause. The tea party started out as a movement for limited government, but was hi-jacked by religious crazes.(and no, I am not saying religious people are crazy, I´m referring to the zealots) I voted for Reagen in 1980, he was pro life, that´s as far as it went, his message was libertarian.
The real enemy is power mad people..of all stripes. Anyone who wants to lead had best be ready to come clean about their agenda. There is only a few men or women I trust who have name recognition: DeMint, Palin and maybe Alan West. Until those three join together to announce a plan for the war against our enemies I will not listen to one poster, pundit, politician, writer..no one. With Breitbart gone there is no one in media I trust. All are weak, seeking aclaim, and self serving...Mark Levin and Rush might be steadfast...but am waiting. Never will one penny go to RNC. And, if Newt tries to hitch his wagon to any group I am out. He is self serving and has turned hen pecked.
Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is on top of yet another poll today. But it´s not the result her team was hoping for. In a new Rasmussen Reports poll, Clinton tops five others as the one candidate voters don´t want to win in 2016. "Regardless of whom you would vote for, which candidate would you least like to see win the Democratic nomination in 2016? Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden, Martin O´Malley, Andrew Cuomo, Antonio Villaraigosa or Cory Booker?" Rasmussen asked. The results: Clinton 27 percent, Biden 24 percent.
Former President Bill Clinton made his first public comments on the New York mayor’s race, saying he and his wife Hillary Clinton were not even remotely involved in the race and declining to comment on former Rep. Anthony Weiner’s sexting scandal. “We are a hundred miles from that race and everyone understands that we are not going to be involved, as long as our personal friends and people who we feel obligations are involved,” he told CNN in an interview posted Tuesday. The Clintons live outside of the city, but have been drawn into the fracas of the mayor’s race as a result of their relationship with Huma Abedin, one of Hillary Clinton’s close aides, who is married to would-be mayor Anthony Weiner.
On Tuesday, Fox News Channel host Judge Andrew Napolitano appeared on Fox & Friends as a guest host where he savaged President Barack Obama’s administration for leaking details of the nature of the Al Qaeda threat to American embassies, including the phones of top terror leaders that U.S. intelligence services were monitoring. He said that these details were leaked to the press to prove spying initiatives, like the National Security Agency’s communications monitoring programs, are effective.
In late 2012, Donald E. Graham, the chairman and chief executive of The Washington Post Company, met with the paper’s publisher, Katharine Weymouth, to look at the paper’s future for the next three years. Their assessment troubled them. “We knew we could survive, but we always felt that our ownership should do more than help the paper survive,” Mr. Graham said in an interview Monday evening. With the agreement of the board, the company retained Allen & Company and had an initial round of discussions with six potential buyers.
This seemed inevitable. With all the efforts to tie the Tea Party and “right wing“ to violence committed by others, it wouldn’t be long before the Islamic radical Boston bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev was tied to “right-wing” causes. With the slenderest of proof, The BBC goes there: One of the brothers suspected of carrying out the Boston bombings was in possession of right-wing American literature in the run-up to the attack, BBC Panorama has learnt.
The Republican Party threatened Monday to pull 2016 Republican primary debates from CNN and NBC if they do not drop plans for special programs on potential 2016 Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton—a move that could help the national party winnow the number of debates in the coming presidential election cycle. “It’s appalling to know executives at major networks like NBC and CNN who have donated to Democrats and Hillary Clinton have taken it upon themselves to be Hillary Clinton’s campaign operatives,” said Reince Priebus, the chairman of the Republican
It’s difficult to imagine someone more important in U.S. history than Harry Hopkins, but Americans don’t learn much more than his name, if that, in school. This means we aren’t taught that Hopkins, FDR’s top wartime advisor, ran what became known as “Roosevelt’s own personal Foreign Office” from the Lincoln Bedroom, where Hopkins lived for three-and-half-years. We aren’t taught that this former social worker in key ways controlled U.S. foreign policy by controlling the distribution of U.S. military materiel to countries at war through his supervision of the massive Lend Lease program.
In a shocking announcement late Monday, The Washington Post Co. announced that it´s selling its eponymous newspaper to Amazon.com founder and CEO Jeff Bezos for $250 million. Obviously, it´s early to say how the sale and new owner will affect the direction of the newspaper. Most new newspaper owners (ahem, Rupert Murdoch) immediately vow not to interfere with the news reporting of the paper, though sometimes they don´t keep that vow. As at many newspapers, Post editorial page editor Fred Hiatt reports to the publisher rather than the editor. Publisher Katharine Weymouth
Connecticut has so many advantages that it might be hard to understand how it became one of America’s worst-performing state economies. As we know, Connecticut is located along an important commercial corridor between New York and Boston. It’s well-served by railroads and highways. Major airports are accessible. Connecticut has many charming towns, historic sights, stylish shops and nice beaches. CNN determined that of America’s 25 towns with the highest median family incomes, four are in Connecticut – New Canaan (#1), Darien (#2), Westport (#5) and Greenwich (#14).
You can always tell the depth of an event’s illegality by the measures people take to cover it up. By that measure, the conduct of President Obama, Hillary Clinton, and David Petraeus leading up to the terrorist attack that killed four Americans on 9/11 2012 must be must be so sufficiently wrongful that, if revealed, they could lead to the president’s impeachment. How else can we gauge what is apparently the most energetic coverup in modern history? We know, from several sources, that the survivors of the attack
On Nov. 12, 2010, Tina Brown gathered the staff of her Web site The Daily Beast in the third-floor conference room at its Chelsea offices with its commanding views of the Hudson. Brimming with the fervor she has brought to all her endeavors, she delivered some surprising news: the Web site would merge with Newsweek, a once-proud but struggling magazine brand. Ms. Brown, according to staff members who were present, spoke excitedly about the potential synergies for advertisers across platforms and promised to produce a new form of
On State of the Union Sunday morning, host Candy Crowley asked South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham if he thought the terror alert that went out this weekend was less of a defense against terrorism and more of an acknowledgement of its power. “When you look at this map of U.S. embassies that are closed, twenty-two of them, most of them across the Muslim world, when you hear this global warning to all Americans to take care, what do you think that says?” Crowley asked.
In 2008 and then again in 2012, after retired four-star General Colin Powell endorsed and then voted for Barack Obama, the former Secretary of State´s sanity was already in question. At least now, after having his email account hacked by high-level security-breacher Guccifer, Colin Powell´s besmirching of the Republican Party´s "shift to the right" and "identity crisis" finally makes sense. It seems that for years the mannerly and always professional Colin Powell has been cyber-comporting with a 46-year-old Romanian European Parliament member, Social Democrat, and past spokesperson for Romanian president Ion Iliescu named Corina Cretu
Conservatives have for years attempted to put our finger upon precisely why Barack Obama strikes us as queer in precisely the way he does. There is an alienness about him, which in the fever swamps is expressed in all that ridiculous Kenyan-Muslim hokum, but his citizen-of-the-world shtick is strictly sophomore year — the great globalist does not even speak a foreign language. Obama has been called many things — radical, socialist — labels that may have him dead to rights at the phylum level but not down at his genus or species. His social circle includes
For nearly a year, we have had no answer to why the administration lied about Benghazi — why it told the world, not to mention the parents of our murdered SEALs at the funeral of their sons, that the cause of that fatal conflagration was an anti-Islamic video no one saw, when the various arms of our executive branch (White House, State and intelligence) already knew, or strongly suspected, it was a terror attack orchestrated by al-Qaeda affiliates. You only have to read the now infamous talking points to know that. That this lie was deeply immoral is obvious.
Today, across Africa, Araby and Asia, from Nouakchott to Dhaka, the diplomatic facilities of the United States are closed. There’s a Tsarnaev out there, somewhere – could be the Mahgreb, the Levant, the Horn of Africa, the Indian sub-continent – who knows? So, as Richard Fernandez writes, “Shelter in place, this time globally.” Maybe it will work. Maybe by the end of the day there will be, unlike Benghazi a year on, men in custody. But if not? Daniel Pipes: Don’t know about you, but I find this pre-emptive cringing unworthy of a great country, even humiliating.
He thought he was a woman trapped in a man’s body — but it turns out he’s “just another boring straight guy.” ABC News editor Don Ennis strolled into the newsroom in May wearing a little black dress and an auburn wig and announced he was transgender and splitting from his wife. He wanted to be called Dawn. But now he says he suffered from a two-day bout of amnesia that has made him realize he wants to live his life again as Don. “I accused my wife of playing some kind of cruel joke, dressing
WASHINGTON — Former Massachusetts lawmaker Barney Frank revealed that he doesn’t believe in God. During Friday’s appearance on HBO’s “Real Time With Bill Maher,” Frank, who championed the decriminalization of pot while serving in the House of Representatives, admitted to smoking marijuana and being an atheist. “You were in a fairly safe district. You were not one of those congress people who would have to worry about every little thing,” Maher said to Frank. “You could come on this show and sit next to a pot-smoking atheist and it wouldn’t bother you.”
The truth about Benghazi, the Associated Press/James Rosen monitoring, the IRS corruption, the NSA octopus, and Fast and Furious is still not exactly known. Almost a year after the attacks on our Benghazi facilities, we are only now learning details of CIA gun-running, military stand-down orders, aliases of those involved who are still hard to locate, massaged talking points, and the weird jailing of Nakoula Basseley Nakoula. We still do not quite know why Eric Holder’s Justice Department went after the Associated Press or Fox News’s James Rosen — given that members of the administration were themselves illegally leaking
In an interview for The Guardian Weekend magazine, actor Matt Damon recently weighed in with his thoughts on how President Barack Obama has handled the scandals that have engulfed his administration since the spring. Damon, a vocal supporter of the president since his 2008 campaign for national office, said that Obama is overcompensating for his lack of military background with his tough response to controversies like how the government is responding to National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden. The actor said that Obama is allowing himself to “get bullied” and is acting as though is “manhood”
Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus threatened to pull the group’s partnership with NBC and CNN for 2016 GOP presidential primary debates if the networks moved ahead with plans to air films on Hillary Clinton. “If they have not agreed to pull this programming prior to the start of the RNC’s Summer Meeting on August 14, I will seek a binding vote stating that the RNC will neither partner with these networks in 2016 primary debates nor sanction primary debates they sponsor,” Preibus said in a statement. In individual letters to CNN President Jeff Zucker and NBC Chairman Robert Greenblatt,
The Pentagon has placed its elite cadre of special operations teams on full alert to launch preemptive attacks against suspected al Qaeda targets across the globe, according to reports. The American special forces teams have spent the past week waiting for U.S. military and intelligence officials to confirm the whereabouts of the terror cell plotting to attack U.S. diplomatic outposts in the Mideast and North Africa. Unnamed sources told CNN on Monday that the teams were poised to carry out the preemptive strikes, but declined to comment on where the U.S. forces were located or which potential
Oprah Winfrey on Monday said the killings of Trayvon Martin and Emmett Till are the "same thing." This transpired during an interview with The Grio that aired on NBC´s Today show. OPRAH WINFREY: It´s so easy during this time: Trayvon Martin, Trayvon Martin parallel to Emmett Till, let me just tell you. In my mind, same thing. But you can, you can get stuck in that and not allow yourself to move forward and to see how far we´ve come. Really? Martin and Till are the same thing?
In an exclusive interview for The Grio, NBCUniversal’s African-American news and opinion website, Oprah Winfrey weighed in with her unvarnished thoughts on the killing of Trayvon Martin and the acquittal of George Zimmerman. Winfrey said that, in her mind, Martin’s murder and that of Emmett Till in 1955 – whose killers were also acquitted – were the “same thing.” However, she added that it is important to keep in mind how much race relations in America have progressed over the last half-century. In a clip of the interview which aired on NBC’s Today, Oprah told The Grio’s Chris
