Ethanol Eating Up U.S. Corn Exports

Foreign nations that previously relied on the U.S. for corn are growing more of their own or buying from other producing countries, says Philip Abbott, a Purdue University economist. He predicted the trend will continue even if market conditions improve and U.S. corn production increases. "The U.S. has historically been a very important part of the international corn market," Abbott says. "Prior to the 2007-08 food crisis and spike in commodity prices,

As we continue to burn up our food supplies, the world goes on without us. No exports, no new money exchange, no balancing of trades.
This ethanol idiocy does not help us become energy independent, it uses up valuable resources, and restricts the production of food. As we continue to see our food prices soar, one of the reasons will be this ethanol debacle. Remember that corn is not only used for direct food for humans but the number one food for animal feed. Have you noticed the price of steaks these days? Blame some of it on ethanol.

Not to mention the 3.5 gallons of diesel and nat. gas required to complete the distillation and additional transportation of each gallon of perfectly good and drinkable ethanol which we then waste as fuel.

Stop all farm subsidies.

Crop insurance can be had privately.

Ethanol in my car causes more damage than in my blender.

Went to the store yesterday for a can of corn needed in a recipe. The price of canned corn is twice the price of green beans or peas. Ethanol sure is a wonderful thing. @@

But you don´t understand!
Ethanol is a grand utopian scheme.
IMPORT 100 barrels of diesel fuel. Use to make the equivalent of 90 barrels of gasoline. Net effect on oil dependence: negative.
Net influence on "public opiinion": profound.

Net profit to agribusiness: priceless!

And the congresscritters get their campaign contributions from agribusiness.

And ethanol contributes to global warming: the change from soybeans to corn in the US opens the market for soybeans grown in South America, where they cut down rain forests, destabilizing the global climate.

It is a win-win all the way around.

Price of ground beef had increased at least 100%, over the last 5 years. Price of silver increased 235% over the last 5 years. Home prices are being artificially boosted by various means (talk to a realtor).

The object it seems, is to increase the cost of living.

Then ethanol mandates were technical decisions made by a congress consisting mainly of a bunch of lawyers with ZERO technical knowledge. Every time that is tried, it fails. Look it up, from light bulbs to flush toilets and on and on...

Defeat of the farm bill has raised the cry for separating crop programs and food assistance into separate bills, but that will take away the measure´s broad based support. A new farm bill likely won´t pass until legislators are able to cobble together a majority coalition in a politically divided Congress, which in turn reflects a divided country and a divided farm bill constituency,

A painting that features President Obama posed as Jesus Christ crucified on is on display at a community college art gallery in Boston. The painting by Michael D’Antuono is part of a larger exhibit called “Artists on the Stump – the Road to the White House 2012.” It’s on display at the Bunker Hill Community College Art Gallery until Dec. 15th. The painting is called “Truth” – and shows the president with his arms outstretched. A crown of thorns rests on his head.
It was originally supposed to debut nearly four years ago at New York City’s Union Square. But that event was cancelled due to public outrage.

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa, R-Calif., has accused the panel´s top Democrat of prompting the Internal Revenue Service in 2012 to target a conservative organization applying for nonprofit status. Issa said records obtained last week from the IRS show communications from the office of ranking member Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Md., about True the Vote, a Texas-based, nonprofit conservative group that aims to prevent voter fraud. The communications at one point involved Lois Lerner, the ex-IRS official who Issa´s panel is poised to hold in contempt of Congress on Thursday for refusing to provide testimony about her

Attorney General Eric Holder strayed from prepared remarks to slam the way he was “treated” by a House committee the day before, calling it evidence of “ugly and divisive” civil rights challenges facing him and President Barack Obama. Speaking to the Rev. Al Sharpton’s National Action Network at its annual convention in New York on Wednesday, Holder talked about the state of civil rights today and brought up a House committee hearing Tuesday that grew contentious, according to video from Mediaite and reports from outlets including Capital New York. “The last five years have been defined by significant strides and

Barack Obama got quite the handful on Thursday, April 10, but it was all for a good cause! As the President of the United States was boarding Air Force One with his wife Michelle Obama, a gust of wind blew up her skirt. Barack quickly stepped in and grabbed the First Lady´s billowing skirt to help her avoid a wardrobe malfunction and embarrassing Marilyn Monroe moment. Earlier in the week, another famous lady on the global stage suffered a similar snafu, but no one was around to help her -- not even her prince!

A new review is questioning the effectiveness of two key drugs enlisted in the fight against influenza and in turn the investments by governments to stockpile the drugs in the event of a global flu outbreak. The antiviral drugs Tamiflu (oseltamivir) and Relenza (zanamivir ) are commonly used to treat influenza in healthy adults and children. In the case of Tamiflu, the drug does shorten symptoms of influenza by about half a day - as the manufacturer suggests - but there is insufficient evidence to support claims that it reduces hospital admissions or serious complications, such as confirmed pneumonia or

Although the news media and Hollywood relish telling stories about horrific crimes and serial killers, they are strangely silent about Dr. Kermit Gosnell, an abortionist who killed living, viable babies by snipping their spinal cords with scissors, and who is “America’s most prolific serial killer,” said actor Kevin Sorbo and his wife Sam Jenkins in a video to promote funding for a movie about Gosnell. “Kermit Gosnell is America’s most prolific serial killer,” says Kevin Sorbo, who starred in the TV series Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. “For more than three decades he was an abortion doctor in Philadelphia, where he

Big Government: As students flood Twitter with images of inedible slop, it´s clear that Michelle Obama´s government school lunch revamp is a costly failure. It´s time to get the feds out of kids´ lunch boxes. The $12 billion federal student lunch program, which serves 30.7 million kids, is losing participants fast — more than a million just last year, according to a recent Government Accountability Office report. The reason: the first lady´s Healthy Hunger-free Kids Act, an act that has accomplished exactly the opposite of what it claimed it would — leaving hungry, angry, disgusted kids and dumpsters full of wasted

Solar power has won the global argument. Photovoltaic energy is already so cheap that it competes with oil, diesel and liquefied natural gas in much of Asia without subsidies. Roughly 29pc of electricity capacity added in America last year came from solar, rising to 100pc even in Massachusetts and Vermont.[Snip] The technology is improving so fast--helped by the US military--that it has achieved a virtous circle. Michael Parker and Flora Chang, at Sanford Bernstein, say we entering a new order of "global energy deflation" that must ineluctably erode the viability of oil, gas and the fossil fuel nexus over time.

On Wednesday, the House Ways and Means Committee voted to refer former Internal Revenue Service official Lois Lerner to the Department of Justice for criminal prosecution. By a vote of 23 to 14, a closed-door session of the House committee determined that Lerner’s role in the alleged singling out of conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status for undue scrutiny was a criminal act. The vote was “just another attempt by Republicans to vilify Ms. Lerner for political gain,” according to the ex-IRS official’s attorney, William Taylor. In spite of the fact that the DOJ has already been investigating both Lerner and the alleged
