| The toll hikes taking effect Sunday on the Port Authority’s Hudson River crossings are unlikely to be embraced by many motorists, but they are especially unwelcome by truckers, who will see the most dramatic increases. “It’s out of control. I’ll never cross the George Washington Bridge again in my entire life,” said David Irwin, a Michigan-based driver who must now pay $75, up from $65, to drive his five-axle truck across the one-mile span. Only five years ago, the cash toll for his truck was $30. Further increases already approved will push it to $105 by late 2015.

Greedy small-business owners bristle under their patriotic obligation to provide lavish salaries and fat pensions to political appointees. For shame!
This same Port Authority paid 10 "workers" $1,000 apiece this past July 4 to put up and take down the American flag. Truckers should be proud to pay a $105 toll to travel that mile in 2015.

New Yorkers won´t be bothered by my presence again. They have no idea of how good they´ve got it because some are willing to come to their side of the bridge.

I think most/all of this is unions (PA cops, etc). Really can´t imagine any business, NYC or anywhere else that thinks this is a good idea.

When we head south, we avoid I95 like the plague. We take I84 and I81 to avoid the tolls and the traffic jams. This distance is longer but the time is shorter, and stops in rural areas are much more pleasant than big city stops.

Truckers actually pay taxes based on the miles they drive on highways, along with an unbelievably long list of other taxes. Why they also pay tolls is beyond me. And if I ever want a divorce, all I have to do is send my husband into NYC. I can talk him into Philly, Boston etc but NOT nyc.

Any fee increase aimed at truckers hits EVERYBODY. You may not be paying the tolls, but _everything_ you buy, eat, drive, wear - pretty much darned near everything - unavoidably spends at least part of the journey from factory to market in the backs of those trucks. When it costs truckers and their companies more to do their jobs, that increase is going to be passed on to the customers using their services (for example, the stores you shop in). And who do you think those stores are going to pass those costs on to (hint: look in the mirror)?
In a way it´s almost like a stealth tax increase.

The Navy’s cancellation of Blue Angels 2013 air shows extends past the federal fiscal year ending in September means the November 1-2 Homecoming Show at Pensacola Naval Air Station has been scrapped too. “It’s not just the fiscal year,” said Navy Lt. The report to be released Monday by the Drug Policy Alliance shows 4 out of 10 county jail inmates have been granted bail but can´t afford to post it. In a stunning end to one of the most aggressively unsuccessful tenures in retail history, JCPenney (JCP) last night announced that CEO Ron Johnson would be leaving effective immediately. Myron Ullman, Johnson´s predecessor at JCPenney, takes office as CEO. When Johnson was initially wooed by JCPenney, it was to serve as CEO with Ullman as Chairman. In January 2012, Ullman was unceremoniously removed from the board. Gone with Ullman was any control the Board of Directors had over Ron Johnson and his control of JCPenney resources.
