| Political firebrand Andrew Breitbart´s California home has been put on the market with an asking price of $1.995 million 9 months after the late pundit´s sudden death last Spring. Breitbart, who started at the Drudge Report before helping to found the Huffington Post and writing commentary for the Washington Times passed away at the age of 43 from heart failure this March. The stunning five-bedroom, four-bathroom home lies at the north tip of the L.A. National Cemetery. Breitbart passed away walking just outside the home. For parents in the real estate market, the house is in highly desirable

I find it amusing that the headline refers to a $1.9 million house in LA as a mansion.
That´s not really a lot of money these days.

Mansion must mean something else in England. It is a beautiful home, though. What a tragedy his death was.

Mansion? It actually seems a modestly large home in a very nice location, walk to UCLA. Price seems reasonable, the empty lot would be worth most of that, real estate in Los Angeles even today.

According to the article, the house is 3,886-square-feet and was built in 1950. Most of the value is the dirt underneath it in California´s overinflated real estate market. By no definition is it a mansion.

$1.9 million is no mansion in the California real estate market. Probably a nice house, but hardly a mansion.
In another part of the country, one that isn´t ruled by eco-wackos, $1.9 million might buy a mansion.

#15: I was going to say the same thing. I´m sure certain people are appalled that he could live so high on the hog, but $1.9 million is actually a modest home compared to others in the area where he lived.
Rewriter of American history, Noam Chomsky, lives in a $3 million dollar house in a less expensive area of the country. Let´s talk about that, shall we?

Sad truth, but $1.9M. does not get you a Mansion in most parts of Ca. Most likely a nice house in a good neighborhood, but no mansion. It´s really ridiculous out here.

Britain is about the size of the state of Oregon. Imagine Oregon with 65 million people. Houses with a large footprint are astonishingly expensive. The average size of newly-built homes in the UK less than half the size of new-builds in the US or Australia.
I had difficulty in explaining the size of the United States to my mother until I equated a cross-country trip as about the same as driving from her backyard to the Russian steppes.

The most successful politicians write their own obituaries. I have read a number of Baroness Thatcher´s today and wondered whether the writers would be surprised if they were told she would probably agree with most of what was written, even in the Left-of-centre outlets. This is because successful politicians so dominate the debate on the issues they care about--which were many, in Thatcher´s case--that they determine the course of the argument including the response from opponents. They do this by defining themselves in the public imagination by what they are against rather than what they are for, and leaving only

North Korea´s army was deeply split over whether to accept the command of Kim Jong-un, a former officer has revealed, giving a possible clue to the tensions lying behind the young leader´s calls to war. First Lieutenant Kim, 42, said he had been forced to flee North Korea after he murdered a rival officer as the factions within his army unit battled for control. "I killed a three-star company commander, the same rank as me," he said. "He was the head of the faction supporting Kim Jong-un. There were two fights. In the first fight, they surrounded us

Looks like there are too many cooks in the White House kitchen. White House assistant chef Sam Kass, who cooks weekly for President Obama, said Tuesday that he is facing a furlough brought about by crippling federal budget cuts. The chef, who is also the president’s senior nutrition policy adviser, is one of nearly 500 White House employees who are expected to receive furlough notices because of the so-called sequester. Speaking with food reporters Tuesday, Mr Kass said: ‘We’re being furloughed,’ according to Reuters. A White House spokesman who accompanied Kass to the press briefing declined to comment on the

Hundreds took to the streets as macabre ‘Thatcher death parties’ were held late into the night across the country, organised by critics of the ´Iron Lady.´ Smashed shop windows, paint bombs and police being attacked were all consequences of the Left´s sick ´celebration´ of Baroness Thatcher´s death. In Brixton, south London, riot police were deployed as the crowds, which had been drinking since 5pm, started to become more aggressive smashing shop fronts and throwing paint bomb. In Liverpool, flares and fireworks were set off outside Lime Street Station by revellers, while in Bristol, seven police officers were injured--one seriously--as violence

Cometh the hour cometh the man. (Or woman). Except it´s not always true, is it? In 1940 we had Winston Churchill. In 1979 we had Margaret Thatcher. But I´m not sure even the most generous apologists for our current Prime Minister would bracket David Cameron in quite the same category. To the politician it matters greatly, for the primary aim of the politician is to gain and maintain power at regardless of what cost to his principles. By Sanford’s math and reading of Obama administration stimulus allocation figures, the Wind Turbine Drivetrain Testing Facility received $43 million and “created or saved” an estimated 134 jobs. When divided, the numbers calculate to more than $320,000 per job, Sanford said. Sanford’s comments came during a visit to a Mount Pleasant branch of Lyerly’s Cleaners, where he carried in a load

Beginning a week of high pressure on gun control, the White House on Monday accused some Republican senators of cowardice for planning to filibuster gun legislation without allowing the full Senate to vote on President Obama’s initiatives. “If they oppose this legislation, have the courage to say so on the floor and vote no,” said White House press secretary Jay Carney. “Don’t block it. Don’t hide behind a procedural action to prevent a vote. That’s the wrong thing to do, and that’s how the president clearly feels.”

There was growing buzz over the weekend that a bipartisan agreement on gun control — a deal that would expand background checks — could hit the floor as early as this week. However, any deal could be derailed by the looming threat of a Republican filibuster involving Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. With Cruz standing proudly in the way of any gun legislation, Democrats are trying to make him pay a political price — and even a couple of high-profile Republicans are questioning his tactics.

Congress and the American people need to know what happened the night of Sept. 11, 2012. Who did the killing and what was their motive? Why wasn´t help sent? Obama said America needs to start enrolling 4-year-olds to make sure the children are “better prepared for the demands of the global economy” and to help parents save on "child-care costs." After saying the United States needs to “equip our citizens with the skills and training” to fill jobs in manufacturing, energy and infrastructure, Obama said, “And that has to start at the earliest possible age.”

Margaret Thatcher had more impact on the world than any woman ruler since Catherine the Great of Russia. Not only did she turn around—decisively—the British economy in the 1980s, she also saw her methods copied in more than 50 countries. "Thatcherism" was the most popular and successful way of running a country in the last quarter of the 20th century and into the 21st. Her origins were humble. Born Oct. 13, 1925, she was the daughter of a grocer in the Lincolnshire town of Grantham. Alfred Roberts was no ordinary shopkeeper.

Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius conceded Monday that implementing the Affordable Care Act has been more complicated and frustrating than the Obama administration expected, largely due to Republicans who have opposed the law´s state-based exchanges and Medicaid expansion. "The politics has been relentless and that continues," Sebelius said. "There was some hope that once the Supreme Court ruled in July, and then once an election occurred there would be a sense that, ´This is the law of the land, let´s get on board, let´s make this work.´"
