Holiday consumers have long been aware that shopping local helps their local economy stay vibrant. This holiday season, though, there is a growing awareness that shopping for gifts made in America helps jobs stay stateside. "It´s the jobs thing. People have definitely connected the dots. Consumers are more savvy and more educated than ever, and the days of conspicuous consumption of buy, buy, buy, buy, buy are gone," said JimTherriault, owner of New England Everyday Goods in Peterborough.

Yeh.. A yo yo for my kids..WHen the elitist / distainfull libs are in control the first thing they do is "make you feel good " . this locovore movement is about limiting your choice so they can sell YOU on happiness through correct thinking/ shopping /eating /healthcare. I want French perfume, German cars and maybe a doll made by 136 th street Mme Alexander.
After WW2 victorious GIs brought some of the above home.. You can also search for vintage Christmas items made in the USA. Sometimes they are quite cool looking and bring back good memories.

I started buying custom cards from Zazzle and Shutterfly because I could not bear to send out a Christmas card that said "Made in China" on the back.
I was also distressed to see The Vermont Country Store carrying so many Christmas standards that are now made in China. I guess I can´t fault them if there are no factories left that will make the ornaments and candles I loved in my childhood.
I make my own ornaments now.

Nothing exemplifies the spirit of Christmas giving among friends and family than homemade gifts. From jams and jellies to whirligigs and birdfeeders, give of your time and yourself instead of the latest electronic gadget. You and your family will be the better for it.

I asked my local shop for Christmas cards that were made in America. All were from China. I did not buy. Agree #5.
I will make up my own Christmas letter (with pictures) this year. I will also look closely at stamps -- none that say justice, equality, even with the flag.

#7, you can have custom stamps made at Zazzle as well. I have been doing that for the past three years. I have my own pictures put on most of them, but they have hundreds of Christmas designs.
I swear I don´t work for the company and that I am a frequent poster, not a shill.

Apart from #1, it´s so nice to see the protectionists alive and well here. While I have no problem buying locally made goods, let´s remember that we also sell over a hundred million dollars worth of goods to China each year. It is less than we buy in return but we are much wealthier per capita; with the potential to sell much more as overall wealth in China increases. Trade is a two-way street.There are always problems but let´s not throw the baby out with the bathwater.
Also I´ve never understood bemoaning the loss of low skill, low wage jobs. How many here would actually work in a factory to produce the goods Americans want?

Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise.
