About 100 servers, line cooks and dishwashers working at the Charleston Crab House don’t have health insurance and face an uncertain year ahead. As more of the Affordable Care Act (commonly known as “Obamacare”) kicks in, they will either receive coverage or face financial penalties. [Snip] There are many questions that must be answered and milestones that must be passed before the Consumers’ Choice Health Plan begins enrolling its first members, the people who eventually will run this new South Carolina nonprofit insurer, but perhaps the biggest and simplest question is this: Will it work?
Comments: Something about the CCHP´s logo disturbs me. Is that a person spinning for joy, carried off by a tornado, or drowning?
Gosh! Layoffs, business closings, all out of the blue without any warning about the horrors of Obamacare. What a surprise! And here we were all thanking Obama, the Democrat Congress and Judge Roberts for looking out for us. Oh well, let the whining begin!
ObamaCare will work. Unfortunately, it will achieve the purpose for which it was designed. It will destroy the private market for health care.
The Dhimmi´s crave "single payer" health care. After the private market is destroyed and it becomes clear that ObamaCare cannot replace it, the Dhimm´s will present single payer as the only alternative.
The sheeple will accept it as better than nothing.
“Single payer” is, by definition, absence of free market. Please give me an example of where that has ever worked for anything.
The penultimate modern insanity of the left is that centrally planned monopoly economics will eventually work, and that they, the current apparatchiks, the ones we have been waiting for, with the Messiah gloriously leading us, at this glorious moment in history, have it mastered.
fta: “We are mission driven, we are not profit driven. That means very explicitly we’re not going to make excess profit and send it to Wall Street,” Burgess said. “We’re going to make enough money to stay in business, and we’re going to use any gains to lower premiums for common people.” ~~
I don´t trust people that aren´t "profit driven."
I can understand what "profit driven" means but I have no idea what "mission driven" is. What does that mean? Whose mission? Is it an "evolving" mission? Common people... who are these people? Do I qualify as "common" or do I have to be a certain race or sex or income level or political affiliation?
"Profit" is simple to understand and is blind to anything but money. It has no ulterior motives. It is crystal clear.
"Mission" on the other hand.. who the hell knows what that means?

Big omission here. The third repercussion is ´ or they will be fired´ as the business reduce their labor force. Business around the nation may be willing to take in less money but will pay out less in more taxes and penalties. If you make more than 250K a year, they as the ´nasty´ rich will be removing the target off their backs. Also business are going to a 29 hour work week.
A moonwalking Shetland pony that shot to fame after being seen by millions in a TV advert for a mobile network is set to return to our screens. The video of Socks dancing to the tune of Fleetwood Mac´s 1988 hit Everywhere became an internet hit earlier this year, with more than seven million people viewing it on YouTube. It has now been announced that Socks has been called back to star in a second commercial for the mobile phone network Three, again set on the windswept beaches of Shetland. A British soldier was set upon by Muslim converts like a butchers "attacking a joint of meat" as they tried to hack off his head, the Old Bailey heard. Footage of the moment two men allegedly ran down drummer Lee Rigby before attacking him with a cleaver and knives was shown to the jury in his murder trial. The CCTV clip showed the car, allegedly driven by Michael Adebolajo swerve across a road and hit the 25-year-old from behind as he crossed the road. Mr Rigby was knocked unconscious by the collision and his motionless body was then attacked by
Liquidators escorted by police are evicting staff from a public TV station in the Spanish city of Valencia, after an order to shut it down. They moved in after staff at the loss-making station defied the closure order by the regional government and continued broadcasting. Valencia´s government took the decision to close RTVV after losing a court battle to cut staff by more than half. Valencia´s government is run by the conservative Popular Party, which is in power nationally in Spain under Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy. In Greece, the conservative-led coalition government shut down the national broadcaster ERT on grounds
Eyewitnesses said trouble flared up when staff told him was only allowed to buy one of each product. He was escorted from the store by security guards and was finally restrained by five members of staff--with one employee suffering a cut face. One witness said: ´He was being told by staff at Asda that he wasn´t allowed to buy two TVs. ´Security then escorted him and he was arguing and filming them on his mobile phone when it was knocked out of his hand. ´He ended up being carted off handcuffed in a police car but it was the security
A man has been stabbed in Virginia, a shoplifter has been shot by cops in Chicago and brawls have broken out across the nation as shoppers clash in a scramble for the best Black Friday bargains. [Snip] In one of the most violent incidents yet, a police officer responded to the scene of a shoplifting at a Kohl´s store in Romeoville, Illinois just after 10pm on Thursday to see the alleged thief dragging another officer along with his car. The responding officer shot the driver to stop him. Police Chief Mark Turvey said at a news conference that the injured
One of the country’s leading judges yesterday compared the behaviour of the European Court of Human Rights to the methods of Communist East Germany. The human rights judges in Strasbourg say they are democratic but in reality they dictate the law, just like the communist bosses did, said Supreme Court Judge Lord Sumption. In a sweeping attack on the way the court has been run, he said it was contributing to a ‘mundane and insidious’ decline of parliamentary powers and accused it of an Orwellian attempt to corrupt democracy. His wife may be behind the nation´s biggest healthy-eating campaign, but even the president is allowed one day off a year. President Barack Obama is celebrating Thanksgiving with a quiet family dinner at the White House - where he will be feasting on a choice of nine pies. The first family will have a choice of huckleberry pie, pecan pie, chocolate cream pie, sweet potato pie, peach pie, apple pie, pumpkin pie, banana cream pie or coconut cream pie, The Hill reported. The selection offers three more pies than last year. Savory dishes on the menu include turkey, honey-baked ham, cornbread stuffing, oyster
Little Hunter Alford needs chemotherapy to treat the rare and deadly cancer he was born with but has lost his health insurance under an administrative blunder seemingly caused by Obamacare. While the president´s signature policy promised that no one with a pre-existing condition would not be covered, the Affordable Care Act has seemingly caused the seven-year-old Gainesville, Texas, boy to face an agonizing wait for treatment as his parents battle to get him back on his insurance plan. ´Why would you cancel a kid?´ asked his mother Krista Alford. ´I really want to send Obama and all of them pictures
A Malian man who escaped from prison in Niger where he was serving a sentence for killing four Saudi tourists, and allegedly assassinated a US diplomat has been recaptured, officials say. French soldiers arrested Alhassane Ould Mohamed, also known as "Cheibani", in northern Mali on Tuesday. He was among 22 prisoners who escaped from jail in June during an attack by suspected Islamist militants. [Snip] It said he was wanted for the murder of US diplomat William Bultemeier who was shot in Niger´s capital, Niamey, as he left a restaurant with colleagues in December 2000. A reward of $20,000 (£12,235)
A plan has been hatched to destroy Syria´s chemical weapons at sea using US Navy auxiliary vessel MV Cape Ray. Industry sources told BBC Newsnight the plan will put a mobile destruction plant aboard that uses water to dilute the chemicals to safer levels. [Snip] Albania and other countries rumoured to be the destination for the chemicals have insisted they will not take them, despite the international community agreeing that disposal was one of the most urgent security problems in the world. The process planned for on board MV Cape Ray--called hydrolysis--will produce an estimated 7.7m litres of effluent. The
At least seven people were killed in an earthquake in Iran on Thursday near the city of Bushehr, where the country´s sole nuclear power plant is situated, state news agency IRNA reported. The earthquake, which had a magnitude of 5.6, struck about 40 miles (60 km) northeast of Bushehr on the Gulf coast, according to US Geological Survey data. No damage to the nuclear plant was reported. IRNA said seven people had died, and quoted the governor of Bushehr saying there was "total calm" in the area. Relief teams had been sent to the affected towns and villages, he said.
A young Royal Marine officer likened to Lawrence of Arabia for immersing himself in an Afghan police unit to live and fight alongside them has received one of the highest awards for gallantry. Capt Owen Davis learnt fluent Pashto, grew a long beard and bonded with his Afghan militiamen comrades in Helmand over poetry and cricket. He fought alongside them almost daily against local Taliban insurgents and was nearly killed when a grenade landed at his feet during the storming of one compound. The 25-year-old from Swansea received a Conspicuous Gallantry Cross, second only to a Victoria Cross, for his
President Obama requested Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu take a “breather” from his harsh criticism of the U.S. strategy regarding Iran during a call betwee the two leaders, The Washington Post reported on Thursday. The request came as the administration girds up for a push in the next six months to reach a final settlement on Iran´s nuclear program. The president reportedly urged Netanyahu to tone down his rhetoric for the sake of diplomacy and urged him to dispatch officials to Washington who could help negotiate a resolution agreeable to both countries. The president called Netanyahu last Sunday, promising to
Rush Limbaugh and Sarah Palin are starting to sour on the new pope. In response to Pope Francis’ first Apostolic Exhortation, in which the pontiff denounced “trickle-down theories which assume that economic growth, encouraged by a free market, will inevitably succeed in bringing about greater justice and inclusiveness in the world,” these two paragons of the far right – both of whom regularly invoke the teachings of Jesus to bolster their own political views – have suddenly turned their backs on the man whose actual job description is to speak for Jesus. Sarah Palin complained that Pope Francis sounded “kind
In 1947, Sen. Harley Kilgore (D-W.Va.) condemned a proposed constitutional amendment that would restrict presidents to two terms. “The executive’s effectiveness will be seriously impaired,” Kilgore argued on the Senate floor, “ as no one will obey and respect him if he knows that the executive cannot run again.” I’ve been thinking about Kilgore’s comments as I watch President Obama, whose approval rating has dipped to 37?percent in CBS News polling — the lowest ever for him — during the troubled rollout of his health-care reform. Many of Obama’s fellow Democrats have distanced themselves from the reform and from the president.
Cher told her fans on Wednesday that she does not celebrate Thanksgiving. In fact, she appears to deplore the American holiday, calling in the “beginning of a great crime.” Cher said that the American settlers were guilty of taking land from native Americans who had no concept of property ownership and also intentionally infected them with smallpox. “You don’t celebrate the holiday I thought?” a fan asked Cher. “I DON’T,” Cher replied emphatically. She said that, to her, Thanksgiving is a day to see family, eat food together and watch a movie. “Not 2 celebrate the beginning of a GREAT Crime.” When asked
For all the gnashing of teeth over the lack of comity and civility in Washington, the real problem is not etiquette but the breakdown of political norms, legislative and constitutional. Such as the one just spectacularly blown up in the Senate. To get three judges onto a coveted circuit court, frustrated Democrats abolished the filibuster for executive appointments and (non-Supreme Court) judicial nominations. The problem is not the change itself. It’s fine that a president staffing his administration should need 51 votes rather than 60. Doing so for judicial appointments, which are for life, is a bit dicier. Nonetheless, for
President Obama's weekly remarks: Hi, everybody. On behalf of all the Obamas — Michelle, Malia, Sasha, Bo, and the newest member of our family, Sunny — I want to wish you a happy and healthy Thanksgiving. We’ll be spending today just like many of you — sitting down with family and friends to eat some good food, tell stories, watch a little football and. most importantly, count our blessings. And as Americans, we have so much to be thankful for.
LEE COUNTY - The Lee County Sheriff´s Office has arrested a juvenile in connection with two random attacks reported in Lee County. Traveshia Blanks, of Fort Myers, is charged with two counts of battery on a person 65 years of age or older. On Tuesday around 3:50 p.m., deputies responded to a report of a group of people who randomly attacked an unsuspecting victim (Snip)We talked to students from nearby Cypress Lake High School who didn´t seem to think the teens did anything wrong. One day after a new poll showed that only a minority of Americans trust President Barack Obama, the president told an audience that his policies are based on kindness. “Kindness covers all of my political beliefs,” Obama told his audience of wealthy investors, high-tech donors, journalists and fellow Democrats Tuesday, only two months after he slashed at GOP legislators, calling them arsonists, nuclear blackmailers, economic wreckers, hostage-takers, obsessives and irresponsible extremists. “When I think about what I’m fighting for, what gets me up every single day, [kindness] captures it just about as much as anything,” he told his audience at the DreamWorks
For Kentucky Sen. Mitch McConnell, enough was enough. The Senate´s top Republican had watched a Tea Party-driven government shutdown sink the GOP´s already-weak brand and jeopardize McConnell´s own chances of ever becoming majority leader. The solution, he concluded, was that the party´s so-called Establishment had to start fighting back against its most conservative wing. McConnell, an ardent Obamacare opponent, and other Republican pragmatists in Congress, supported the conservatives´ mission to defund Obamacare during budget negotiations, which led to the 16-day shutdown. But the pragmatists also accepted that their odds of success were virtually nil. Democrats ruled the Senate and White House, those
When 200 of CGI Federal´s top managers gathered at the luxurious Nemacolin Woodlands Resort in southwestern Pennsylvania on a brisk day in early November 2009, they found time for business - and high jinks. CGI Federal and its parent company, CGI, do behind-the-scenes work, often with "Top Secret" clearance, for hundreds of American and foreign government agencies - from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission and State Department to the Kyrgyzstan Border Service and World Anti-Doping Agency. But the questions swirling around the company go beyond how it mangled the showpiece reform of Obama´s presidency. Some investors and analysts are expressing concerns
Four more years. 10 trillion more dollars in debt. And by the end of it, we’ll have a nuclear war in the Middle East and mandates forcing you to buy everything from electric cars to Michelle Obama’s trademark Soy and Asphalt pie. The motives behind the Washington Post op-ed argument are… revealing. I watch President Obama, whose approval rating has dipped to 37?percent in CBS News polling — the lowest ever for him — during the troubled rollout of his health-care reform. Many of Obama’s fellow Democrats have distanced themselves from the reform and from the president. Even former president Bill Clinton
So this is how first lady Michelle Obama imagines Americans should spend their Thanksgiving dinner: Talking about Obamacare. That’s her call to supporters, via an email invitation to Democratic Party backers, The New York Post reported. “As you spend time with loved ones this holiday season, be sure to talk with them about what health care reform can mean to them,” she said, in the email that contained 14 talking points that could be raised. Among her touted topics, The Post reported: Talk about the need to sign up for Obamacare. And, ask guests to bring W2 tax forms, or
