| Storm-ravaged New Yorkers say President Obama’s promise to cut red tape and get them aid in the aftermath of Sandy has proven to be hot air.Angry citizens vented at FEMA officials at a town hall meeting held by the disaster relief agency Thursday, with tempers boiling over. Some 1,000 people, many left homeless by the Oct. 29 storm, attended the meeting at Staten Island’s New Dorp High School. They were initially scheduled to submit written questions that would be picked and answered at random, but the session turned into an angry shouting match

Just about finished with David McCullough´s book on the Johnstown flood. Feel like it was written about Katrina, Sandy, and any other present disaster, in that the media did the same things back then. But the relief effort was starkly different. No FEMA or bureaucracy to gum up the works. I highly recommend the book.

Obama HAS NO CHARACTER and that flaw shows up in everything he does. He serves his corporate masters, his Marxist ideology and his self interests and the rest can go to... you know where.

Obama lied, again. Obama made false promises, again. Obama said he really cared, again. Obama needed your vote, and you gave it to him, again.
Complaints are unattractive from persons who willingly and happily jumped from the frying pan into the fire.

Meanwhile the Gov. of NY goes the Obama route asking for $43 Billion under the "trust me" mode. Most of these people are screwed because it was the surge and thus a flood. If you did not have flood insurance a loan from the govt. is not going to do it.

When the next terrorist attack happens, guess what? Yer gonna own that too as well as a lot of other “stuff” When America goes off that Fiscal Cliff on January 1, You own it! Can’t get a job after graduation? Sky rocketing energy prices due to Obama’s EPA shutting down the energy producing states? Bowing to the Soviet Union, China and the Arab states? Another severe recession? Higher heath insurance costs and health care costs. Trouble getting good health care? More dependency on food stamps? Several part time jobs instead of one good job. Another trillion of debt right around the corner. China controlling our world trade while trampling all over us. Big government corruption and lies. Terrorist attacks that get called “work place violence”. Loss of our freedoms as we have known them in the past? Yup. YOU voted for it. You own it lock, stock and barrel. Now sit in it and enjoy the aroma while the Obamboozler flies off to enjoy Hawaii.

Every time I start to feel a tinge of sympathy for these people, I bring up the 2012 presidential election map. The entire area hit by Sandy is solid blue - and will probably stay that way when they vote for obama for a third term.
The aftermath and failed recovery efforts in NY and NJ make Katrina look like a gentle spring rain. I hope George W. Bush is smiling today, even though he has too much class to say anything.

Isn´t it amazing how angry that those who think and expect government handouts get when those handouts don´t come immediately or are not as much as they wanted (not what they need)? I survived going thru Katrina here in Biloxi (which was the hardest hit area) without a lot of screaming and yelling about "Where is FEMA". Even tho Mississippi is considered a backward state, it did have a plan for just such disaster and administered it very effectively.
I feel sorry for those affected, but as previously posted, they should have been prepared for this and have had flood insurance.

If Mitt Romney had won the presidency on November 6th, the liberal media would already be attacking him for not giving enough attention to the post-Sandy problems in New York and New Jersey.
President-Elect Mitt would be receiving daily criticism for not holding enough meetings with homeless victims, drawing up recovery plans, etc.
And the anti-Romney attacks would continue until the problems were solved, which they would be.
But under Obama, there will be no criticism, and nothing will be done -- not until a Republican wins the White House again.

Silly little twits. It´s amazing how all of those low information voters thought they were voting themselves some help. Big Government means Red Tape and even the ones that supposedly have the power to do so, just can´t seem to get it done. Poor Chris Christy who did all the ´right´ things to help make it happen for his constituents was probably frustrated.
FEMA´s focus isn´t helping people anymore. For what it´s worth they have been busy with quasi secret military installations training their people with semi-automatic weapons(you hear me, Bloomburg) dressed in black uniforms with no insignia and black SUV´s. There are at least 4 of them within a 60 mile radius of my house. No one seems to understand what their purpose is. The look of it isn´t comforting one bit.
For what it is worth FEMA is not a first responder. They are supposed to fill out forms and get you help after the damage is done. If they weren´t so busy with target practice and the like, they should be doing better than what these NYers are saying. Just a heads up. Protect yourself and take that responsibility. People in the South have done that for the most part except for the Santa Claus victims. They seem incapable of responsibility.

Obama is not guilty of not following through. He is guilty of making a promise that he knew would not be fulfilled.
You cannot simply set up booths in the area to give away money and stuff upon request. People would come from everywhere to get stuff. It would be hugely irresponsible to do so. That is why churches, and perhaps a few secular relief organizations are the only effective responders they know the community and the heart, and can discriminate against the leeches.

Those people are not mad at Obama, they are mad at FEMA. In their minds, Obama is "just doing the best that he can" as that is the new normal standard of excellence and what they expect from any liberal Democrat President.
It´s always easier for morons to be mad at the law, "red tape" and a faceless bureaucracy then their liberal Democrat President who is getting ready to bask in the sun on a beach in Hawaii at taxpayer´s expense for three weeks, as those angry New Yorkers continue to freeze their butts off in their storm damaged residences in January.

All the posters who have no sympathy for the folks in Staten Island and Breezy Point who lost everything, should know that Staten Island is a reliably Republican-voting area of New York City. Breezy Point is the home of many firefighters, cops and Republican Congressman Bob Turner, who won Anthony Weiner´s seat after he resigned in disgrace.
A little less schadenfreude is in order here.

O.G.´s Mom, 12/2/2012 10:26:35 PM (No. 9045130)
While these sections of Staten Island and Breezy Point Queens, generally vote Republican, their choices are often limited on the Congressional and local level. The NYS Republican Party and the local NYC Republican party often don´t even field candidates and this is where the nitty gritty work during disasters gets done. So, blaming the voters is not always fair. Moreover, city life does not always lend itself to independence and being able to store food and supplies in limited space is difficult. NYS laws that prevent owning a fire arm to protect your family and property inhibits independent protection that so many of these homeowners need. It is a total different way of life, physically and mentally, living in and around NYC from our country counterparts. That said, I hope Sandy will be a wake up call to many NY residents as 9/11 should have been. The answer is not and never has been government. The answer is individual initiative. It ain´t FEMA and it certainly is not a self-absorbed, incompetent idiot that is Obama that will come to your aid in a crisis.

Although the first votes on gun -control legislation have yet to be cast, by some measures the National Rifle Association has already won. Obama’s ambitious plans to ban assault weapons and limit magazine capacities are off the table, while the NRA suggested it could support the most likely outcome -- expanded background checks -- as recently as 1999. The NRA claims that the president’s efforts have triggered a fundraising surge and boosted its membership from 4 million to nearly 5 million.

Two New York Times columnists embarrassed themselves over the weekend, betraying anti-gun ignorance in the paper´s Sunday Review.Frank Bruni went hunting for the first time (with the chef of a ritzy Manhattan restaurant), and remarked "what an unfair fight" hunting is, as if he was the first person to think that up. After lamenting "how thoroughly a weapon can be romanticized and fetishized," he pivoted to easy access to guns in "this country of ours." I could forget, when not aiming at a bird, to keep the gun pointed toward the sky or the ground.

WASHINGTON — President Obama may be tilting at windmills, but the wind is at his back. For now, he looks weak up against the National Rifle Association, spending much of the speech simply pleading for opponents not to block votes

The Wall Street Journal has a big frontpage story today on the disability epidemic. It’s a good addendum to my column from last week. The unexpectedly large number of American workers who piled into the Social Security Administration’s disability program during the recession and its aftermath threatens to cost the economy tens of billions a year in lost wages and diminished tax revenues. Signs of the problem surfaced Friday, in a dismal jobs report that showed U.S. labor force participation rates falling last month to the lowest levels since 1979,

Articles in a series on Mashable.com called “What’s Inside” looked for all the world like the hundreds of other articles on the digital media site. But journalistically, they were something very different. The articles, about technology topics in a wide variety of products, including modems and the Hubble Space Telescope, were paid for by Snapdragon, a brand of processor chip made by Qualcomm, and the sponsor of the series. Most were even written by Mashable editorial employees.

By any observable metric, zombies are totally hot right now. Look at movies like "Warm Bodies" and the coming "World War Z," the ratings for AMC´s hit series "The Walking Dead" (12.9 million viewers for its recent season finale) and $2.5 billion in annual sales for zombie videogames. Over the past decade, between a third and a half of all zombie movies ever made have been released. A glance at Google GOOG -1.51%Trends reveals that in the past few years, interest in flesh-eating ghouls has far outstripped popular enthusiasm for vampires, wizards and hobbits.

J. David Kuo, an evangelical Christian conservative and former top official of President George W. Bush’s faith-based initiative who drew wide attention when he publicly accused the administration of failing to live up to the values it espoused, died April 5 in Charlotte. He was 44.He was diagnosed a decade ago with brain cancer, his wife, Kimberly, said. The arc of Mr. Kuo’s life and career had taken him from liberal to conservative, from hard-edged Republican activism in the 1990s to disillusionment with the idea that politics could serve as an extension of his faith. This country is an embarrassment. We can’t do anything right, least of all corruption. Look, when Venezuela’s populist demagogue Hugo Chavez died, word was he’d somehow accumulated an estate worth $2 billion. In the old days when the PRI party ruled Mexico uninterruptedly, every president got a single six-year term — and promptly retired at its close as a billionaire. And that was when a billion was real money.

Like most of you, I yearn for shorter winters, more shirt-sleeve weather, less lashing from frigid winds. As a confirmed New Yorker, I’m not willing to do what millions have done: move to the sunbelt. I want warmer weather here in the Big City. But I’ve grown old waiting for the promised global warming. I was 35 when predictions of a looming ice age were supplanted by warmmongering. Now I’m 68, and there’s still no sign of warmer weather. It’s enough to make one doubt the “settled science” of the government-funded doom-sayers.

The murder trial of abortionist Kermit Gosnell largely is being ignored by the mainstream media, even in the face of grisly testimony, such as what we heard yesterday. Life News reports: ...a former employee described how she heard a baby scream during a live-birth abortion. Abortion clinic employee Sherry West described an incident which "really freaked (her) out" and related to the jury how she heard a child who was born alive following an abortion scream.

HARTFORD, Conn. -- With time running out on the chance to pass gun control legislation, President Barack Obama on Monday warned Congress not to use delaying tactics against tighter regulations and told families of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting victims that he´s "determined as ever" to honor their children with tougher laws. Obama´s gun control proposals have run into resistance on Capitol Hill, leaving their fate in doubt. Efforts by Senate Democrats to reach compromise with Republicans over expanding required federal background checks have yet to yield an agreement, and conservatives were promising to try

Beginning a week of high pressure on gun control, the White House on Monday accused some Republican senators of cowardice for planning to filibuster gun legislation without allowing the full Senate to vote on President Obama’s initiatives. “If they oppose this legislation, have the courage to say so on the floor and vote no,” said White House press secretary Jay Carney. “Don’t block it. Don’t hide behind a procedural action to prevent a vote. That’s the wrong thing to do, and that’s how the president clearly feels.”

West Virginia Democratic Sen. Jay Rockefeller, one of the towering architects of Obamacare, on Tuesday openly criticized program managers for not moving quickly enough to build the system, warning that if it gets off to a bumpy start it will just get worse. Decrying the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act as way too complex, he warned the acting Medicare director that Obamacare is "so complicated and if it isn´t done right the first time, it will just simply get worse."

The sequester may have many across the country singing the blues, but for President Obama, it was all about Memphis Soul. Even with the threat of furloughs and government cuts sparked by the sequester, Obama took the time to enjoy a star-studded concert at the White House tonight. The White House celebration of Memphis Soul music in the East Room--which included special guest appearances by Queen Latifah and Justin Timberlake--is likely to rile Obama´s Republican foes. Some conservatives have called on Obama to give up golf, especially since popular public tours of the White House have been canceled because of

In the message he issued along with his budget proposal on Wednesday morning, President Barack Obama said he wants to see 4-year-old children in the United States enrolled in public schools. Obama said America needs to start enrolling 4-year-olds to make sure the children are “better prepared for the demands of the global economy” and to help parents save on "child-care costs." After saying the United States needs to “equip our citizens with the skills and training” to fill jobs in manufacturing, energy and infrastructure, Obama said, “And that has to start at the earliest possible age.”

Liberals descended on Pennsylvania Avenue Tuesday to protest President Barack Obama´s decision to include entitlement cuts in his upcoming budget, delivering 2 million petitions demanding the White House back off its support for the chained CPI. As we reported this weekend, liberals have been seething over the inclusion of the chained CPI in Obama´s budget, which they see as a huge betrayal by the Democratic president. This week, progressive groups, including MoveOn, the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, and Democracy for America, have mounted "emergency" online campaigns against the proposal, accusing Obama of

Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius conceded Monday that implementing the Affordable Care Act has been more complicated and frustrating than the Obama administration expected, largely due to Republicans who have opposed the law´s state-based exchanges and Medicaid expansion. "The politics has been relentless and that continues," Sebelius said. "There was some hope that once the Supreme Court ruled in July, and then once an election occurred there would be a sense that, ´This is the law of the land, let´s get on board, let´s make this work.´"

In a stunning end to one of the most aggressively unsuccessful tenures in retail history, JCPenney (JCP) last night announced that CEO Ron Johnson would be leaving effective immediately. Myron Ullman, Johnson´s predecessor at JCPenney, takes office as CEO. When Johnson was initially wooed by JCPenney, it was to serve as CEO with Ullman as Chairman. In January 2012, Ullman was unceremoniously removed from the board. Gone with Ullman was any control the Board of Directors had over Ron Johnson and his control of JCPenney resources.
