Rep. Mike Fleck Comes Out, Becomes
The First Openly Gay Republican

Pennsylvania State Representative Mike Fleck (R-Huntingdon) just announced that he is gay, and in doing so, became the first and only openly gay Republican state legislator in the United States and the only openly gay lawmaker in all of Pennsylvania. Fleck relayed his story to Pennsylvania’s local Huntingdon Daily News. Acknowledging the difficulty of his decision to come out, partially due to his devout catholicism, Fleck underscored to his constituents that he was “still the exact same person.” He went on to note, “Coming out is hard enough, but doing it in the public eye

He was probably going to be outed, maybe by a sleazy publication, and decided to launch a preemptive strike. This way he controls more of the publicity surrounding it.

Nice comments, #1 and 2. I wonder why the GOP has a shrinking base? Social conservatives have strong convictions and I respect that but sometimes social conservatives are just narrow-minded and intolerant and that I don´t respect.

Big Tent GOP, like Reagan wanted and created. If they guy is for shrinking government, lowering taxes, and getting business moving, why the knee-jerk anti-gay comments? The litmus test of Jesus Christ as the perfect political candidate is what has killed the GOP. Guess what? He is not running for office, and everyone else -- EVERYONE -- has some characteristic that won´t appeal to everyone else.

So. Jim Kolbe, a House member from Arizona came out back in the 90´s. He was re-elected 4 or 5 times after that.

Thank you #7 & 9. I really hate bigotry and it is comments like some of those here that make it clear why there are few gay Republicans willing to be themselves. It also gives fuel to the left as proof that their created false perception of us has credibility after all. Bigotry has no place in the GOP. Leave the narrow-mindedness and intolerance with the lefties where it belongs. As my religious Christian sister says..."We are ALL sinners. Who is to say that one person´s sin is worse than another´s? That is for God to decide." I am not a Bible person...I am spiritual and have my own personal relationship with God. But my sister and I agree that most people don´t choose their orientation...they are made that way. #15, are you perfect in your faith or is that just a charade too? Let the first person without sin cast the first stone.

If you don´t think God is trying to bring us back to One Nation following His rules, you are so sadly mistaken. He will not continue to be mocked by Abortion and Homosexual Behavior. Count on it.

Gen. 19:24-28 - the Lord rained fire and brimstone on Sodom and Gomorrah as punishment for the sin of homosexuality. Homosexuality perverts God’s covenant with humanity.

2 Pet 2:6-10: Peter also proves that the Sodomites were guilty of homosexuality. He says God condemned them for “licentiousness” and “lust of defiling passion,” which is where we get the title “Sodomite” for a homosexual. The Greek “aselgeia anastrophes” for lustful behavior is also found in Rom 13:13; Gal 5:19; Eph 4:19 and Jude 4.

Jude 7: Jude also confirms the Sodomites’ sin is homosexuality. Jude says they “indulged in unnatural lust” (Greek, ekporneusasai) and went after “strange flesh” (Greek, sarkos heteras) in reference to their homosexual sins.

2 Peter 2:4-6: Peter also reveals that the Sodomites are suffering in hell for their sins by comparing the Sodomites’ punishment to the eternal punishment of the evil angels. Just as God did not spare the angels when they sinned but cast them into hell, so He did the same with the Sodomites when He “condemned them to extinction and made them an example to those who were to be ungodly.”

I do not care what consenting adults do in their own bed and sincerely hope Representative Fleck feels more comfortable in his daily life. I also pray he is a conservative.

Bridgewater, N.J. - Like clockwork, they´re coming back -- after 17 years. "They" would be cicadas, the big, noisy bugs that climb out of the earth about every decade and a half to make everyone´s life more exciting. Experts tell Gannett News Service that the bugs live underground and feed off fluid that gathers near the roots of plants, then emerge from the soil when its temperature reaches 64 degrees. They´re largely harmless, but their sheer numbers can cause headaches. Some areas could see as many as a billion of the cicadas per square mile. That can lead to a lot of dead bugs all over roadways

Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church. But then came Friday’s jobs report, and hopes were dashed. The Labor Department reported that the U.S. labor force — everyone who has a job or is looking for one — shrank

Gluten-free diets are all the rage, but they can be dangerous if not done right. What is gluten? It´s the spongy complex of proteins, found naturally in wheat, rye, and barley, that gives elasticity to dough and allows it to rise. When flour is moistened and either kneaded or mixed into dough, gluten molecules form an elastic, microscopic latticework that traps the carbon dioxide produced when yeast ferments, causing dough to inflate like a hot air balloon. Baking hardens the gluten, which helps the finished product keep its shape. Wheat — and gluten — is ubiquitous in the American diet.
