If you like Tim Geithner and fiscal

News Quiz: What kind of cliff will they discuss on pretty much every news talk show this weekend? If you guessed Phil's Cliff, you're close. Fiscal Cliff has become the new media shorthand catchword for the early January deadline when taxes will jump back to old rates and severe budget cuts will automatically take hold, mainly on the nation's defense. Here's something to recall as you watch these actors and their media prompters utter their crisis talking points time after time in coming weeks: The same people who are running around talking about the terrible end-of-the-world,

Well, at least there´s some good news. I´d always assumed there was an iron-clad rule among Sunday talkshows that both Lindsay Graham and John McCain were required to appear every Sunday on at least one show or another to undermine Republican party unity.

However, according to this article, John McCain will be absent tomorrow, and the entire burden of angering Republican viewers will fall to Lindsay Graham alone.

I´m sure Mr. Graham is preparing to undermine the collective anti-tax-increase position of the Republican party by bloviating against Grover Norquist as he did last week.

A couple of highly relevant questions for the **llless wonder Timmy that ought to be asked by the Sunday talking heads:

1. How´s that degree in Asian studies working out for you?

2. Have you paid your taxes yet?

Obama´s already spending to tax increase on the rich with new stimulus spending. The logic goes something like this. The tax increases will give a blow to the economy so it has to be offset with more stimulus. In other words the increase on rich liberals will be offset by stimulus handouts while republican tax payers will get zilch.

This country has 80 some trillion of unfunded liabilities coming down the road which dwarfs the $16 trillion that´s on the books for public view.

They probably should be raising the payroll tax and raising the cap on SS by rich people.

Here were are 4 years later and billions wasted on underwater mortgages and Obama wants more to prop them up.We´ve sunk trillions into other social justice schemes and household wealth continues to plummet.Tell me how leftism is working.

The average voter couldn´t care less about this kabuki food fight over taxes. People vote their pocketbooks, but they don´t wear green eye shade. Let the Dims win and let them soak the rich. Let the rich lay off their work force. Let the Dims own the reprocussions. Obama voters don´t deserve to be employed.

On Monday, an act of terror wounded dozens and killed three innocent people at the Boston Marathon. But in the days since, the world has witnessed one sure and steadfast truth: Americans refuse to be terrorized. Ultimately, that’s what we’ll remember from this week. That’s what will remain. Stories of heroism and kindness; resolve and resilience; generosity and love. The brave first responders — police officers, firefighters, EMTs, and National Guard — who ran toward danger to help their fellow citizens.

Hi, I’m Tim Scott, Senator from South Carolina. This week, on Patriot’s Day, a day that celebrates the beginning of our country’s journey toward freedom, a horrific tragedy occurred. The Boston Marathon bombing has left us all with a heavy heart and we pray for the victims and their families. However, while the perpetrators of this act of terror hoped that they could shake the confidence of a city, they have instead only strengthened the resolve of our nation.

Given the self-fulfilling, self-importance of the national media, anything of lasting political, social or economic importance by definition must happen in or be somehow tied to Washington, D.C. This media myopia helps explain the "surprising" news stories that regularly seem to burst on the national scene when, in fact, they´ve been percolating a while in states and cities around the country. [Snip] It is admittedly no easy task to professionally monitor what´s happening locally in 50 far-flung states, especially given the contraction of resources at traditional media news-gatherers.

It would have been interesting to be a waiter at the Jefferson Hotel last evening as Democrat President Obama dined with a dozen Senate Democrats after so angrily and thoroughly denouncing said chamber and said Democrats a few hours earlier. It was a mortifying day for the Chicago machine Democrat, unaccustomed as he is to fellow party members defying their titular head. Five Democrats joined 41 Republicans against 54 other Dems to defeat expanded gun purchase background checks in a vote requiring 60 to pass. Such checks were once considered a virtual gimme for the Oval Office shotgun buff.

In one of those ceremonial pageants the Brits invented, Margaret Hilda Thatcher´s funeral unfolded this morning on the old streets of London to the sounds of the classical music she loved and Bible verses in St. Paul´s Cathedral. So great was the global appreciation for the Iron Lady who led Great Britain from 1979-90, that 2,000 dignitaries attended, including Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip. This was the monarch´s first funeral of a former prime minister in nearly a half-century. The bloody scene looked more like Kabul or Baghdad Monday afternoon. But it was downtown Boston on a bright, shiny holiday at the finish line for the Boston Marathon. There, two trash can bombs went off, injuring scores and killing three, including an eight-year-old boy. The awful spectacle was doubly shocking to Americans because, Fort Hood aside, homeland terrorism has been largely thwarted since 9/11. To maximize the impact of their deadly cowardice, terrorists plan their deeds not for, say Mile 18 of a marathon.

Our older son Nate, soon to be 10 years old, is a fourth grader at Sandy Hook Elementary School. This year, we mark the 60th anniversary of the end of the Korean War -- a time when thousands of our prisoners of war finally came home after years of starvation and hardship. A group of our POWs emerged carrying a large wooden crucifix, nearly four feet tall. They had spent months on it, secretly collecting firewood, carving it using radio wire for a crown of thorns. It was a tribute to their friend, their chaplain, their fellow prisoner who had touched their souls and saved their lives -- Father Emil Kapaun. This is an amazing story.

One of the privileges of being a journalist for so many years has been the opportunity to witness some historical events in person. Now, of course, anyone can experience events once reserved for only a few. More importantly, I have discovered over time, has been the opportunity to talk with some of the most interesting people around, to probe their minds and learn to think in ways I had never imagined. No mind more so than that of Eugene Kennedy, a former priest and professor emeritus at Loyola University, who’s an expert on history, the church and human nature.

Late as usual, President Obama unveiled his budget Wednesday for the next fiscal year, a 5.5-pound document that outlines $3,800,000,000,000 in spending, another $100 billion whacked from national defense, billions more poured into (union) construction and another $580 billion in additional taxes squeezed from the country´s wealthy because they still have some. Obama´s budget is politically DOA, of course. Tired of waiting, the House has already passed one. Last year´s Obama Opus didn´t garner one single vote from any member of either party in either chamber. But stacks of budget books make good B-roll for TV cutaways.

So once again, no good deed goes unpunished. Uncle Sam lets another bunch of leeching future terrorists into the country who have absolutely no business being here, gives them “asylum,” making them immediately eligible for welfare, and this is the thanks we get? They turn into mass murderers. We bring in thousands of Muslims from a primitive society that has been battling Christians for centuries, and put them into a peaceful Christian society — what could possible go wrong? We are still speculating about virtually everything right now, but I feel as though I need to explain why I find the quick and easy conversation about Muslims being radicalized in America to be so illogical and laced with bigotry. Of course, there is a global violent jihadist movement, loosely organized, that wants to recruit young men to influence policies at home and abroad and perhaps usher in the global caliphate. That ideology motivates some Muslims to kill innocent people. But you´re allowed to be a radical Muslim in America.
