Cornyn labels ‘outrageous’
Obama’s ‘crazy idea’ to
unilaterally raise debt ceiling

Houston Chronicle, by Richard Dunham

Original Article

Posted By:earlybird, 12/1/2012 9:09:42 AM

John Cornyn is known for being a politician who carefully chooses his words. He is, by choice, deliberate and judicious. Today, he was just plain mad. In an interview on Fox News, the San Antonio Republican condemned a proposal floated by the White House to unilaterally raise the nation’s debt ceiling if Congress fails to act before the spring 2013 deadline. “It’s profoundly irresponsible,” Cornyn said. “So that’s a crazy idea and I’m amazed that [Treasury] Secretary [Tim] Geithner had the courage to float that yesterday.”

Call it for what it is, "we don´t have a king or a dictator in America".

GOP needs to stop holding back.

Do you know why Democrats say "they´re fighting for..." Because people want to feel you care and are fighting for them.

I am not amazed at the "courage" these people have to propose anything. 3rd world dictators and terrorists have all kinds of "courage" - and yes, I said terrorist - these people are here to destroy my country and they are as dangerous as any terrorist that would strap a bomb to his/her body - they want to kill America!

Obama is just as eager to assume totalitarian powers and turn America back to 7th-century despotism as his friend Mohamed Morsi is attempting to do in Egypt.

But what are we doing about it? While anti-Morsi Egyptians are fighting tyranny in the streets, our democracy is still strong enough to allow our anti-Obama forces in Washington to fight back by laughing and decrying Obama´s ´´crazy´´ statements.

But how long will that work, especially if our Republican leaders in Congress do not have the courage to speak out forcefully themselves but instead stand back while a rank-and-file Republican like John Cornyn is left to make the Republicans´ case?

John Boehner and Mitch McConnell should either be leading the fight or stepping aside so that the John Cornyns in Congress can provide the leadership the Republicans have been lacking.

Hey. This sounds like a great idea. Like giving tequila and car keys to teenagers. Teenaged alcoholics. What could possibly go wrong.

You know, if you think about it, Obama has personally spent more money than anyone in history. And he wants the unrestricted authority to raise the debt ceiling any time he feels like it?

That gives me pause.

#3. As one of two United States senators from Texas, along with Ted Cruz, Cornyn represents all of Texas. He was born in Houston. His father was an Air Force officer and he was raised mostly in San Antonio, where he went to high school as well as college and law school. His current Texas residence is in Austin.

# 3 - Cornyn hails from San Antonio and represents the Eastern half of Texas. Looking foward to watching Ted Cruz after swearing in on Jan. 3.

Thanks, Captain Obvious. Having done a dismal job of choosing Senatorial candidates for the last two election cycles, having failed to give Rick Perry any support whatsoever in his Presidential bid, and having been practically invisible during Mitt Romney´s campaign, Senator Cornyn finds a microphone and boldl yproclaims Obama´s idea "outrageous". The Great State of Texas deserves better.

#9 is off target. I´m not sure what "represents the Eastern half of Texas" means. East Texas is more conservative than any other section of the nation. Obviously, Senator Cornyn got those votes as well as the votes of more liberal Central Texas and laid-back cowboy country of West Texas. He´s a good man and was a fine Texas Supreme Court Justice before being elected to Washington.

As for Ted Cruz, we´ll see about him. He disappointed a lot of us when, after his election, he instantly trashed Mitt Romney.

Geithner had "courage?" More like "gall." I agree with above posters that senators should start verbally stating that our constitution allows for a president, not a dictator. Poster #7 has some good "sound bite" language that they could use.

I´m with 14. I was disappointed in Cruz when I heard not just the criticism of Romney but the crudeness in the way he expressed himself.

As far as Cornyn;s use of "courage" instead of "gall", why is that important? Only weak people think that strong language is evidence of strength.

George W. Bush is victim

The George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum will be dedicated Thursday at Southern Methodist University, an event that will draw all of the nation’s living presidents to Dallas. Despite the coming fanfare, many Americans consider Bush’s presidency a failure. There is little evidence that scholars, including the influential historians who pronounce the success or failure of an administration, are having second thoughts about their assessment of Bush as a failed chief executive. Unfortunately, far too many scholars revealed partisan bias and abandoned any pretense of objectivity in their rush to condemn the Bush presidency.

A Saudi family who “fled” their Sarasota area home weeks before 9/11 had “many connections” to “individuals associated with the terrorist attacks on 9/11/2001,” according to newly released FBI records. One partially declassified document, marked “secret,” lists three of those individuals and ties them to the Venice, Fla., flight school where suicide hijackers Mohamed Atta and Marwan al-Shehhi trained. Accomplice Ziad Jarrah took flying lessons at another school a block away. Atta and al-Shehhi were at the controls of the jetliners that slammed into the twin towers of New York’s World Trade Center, killing nearly 3,000 people.

New FBI records connecting Saudis who lived in Sarasota before 9/11 to “individuals associated with the terrorist attacks” has spurred a renewed push to find out whether the al Qaeda suicide hijackers who killed nearly 3,000 people had help. “One question that has gone unanswered through the investigation of 9/11 is, ‘Did the hijackers operate alone or did they have accomplices who facilitated their ability to act?’” said former Florida Sen. Bob Graham. “I think the information we have now makes a very strong case that they did.”

SENATORS say they fear the N.R.A. and the gun lobby. But I think that fear must be nothing compared to the fear the first graders in Sandy Hook Elementary School felt as their lives ended in a hail of bullets. The fear that those children who survived the massacre must feel every time they remember their teachers stacking them into closets and bathrooms, whispering that they loved them, so that love would be the last thing the students heard if the gunman found them.

When the mainstream media responded to the Tucson massacre of January 2011 by attempting to incite a moral panic over "incivility," probably the grossest contribution came from Newsweek´s Jonathan Alter, who, as we noted that Jan. 12, thought it appropriate to offer some career advice to the gravely wounded Rep.
