| Americans are told that they face a fiscal cliff if automatic spending cuts and tax increases occur at the end of the year.I´m not in favor of jumping off a cliff, but the logic of the proprosed threat needs to be questioned. The fiscal cliff narrative assumes that spending cuts are bad for the ecconomy. It follows then, that more spending (and therefore more government debt) are good for the economy.

Going over the cliff is far better than continuing to spend borrowed money to encourage people to be lazy.

The Democrats are asking the GOP to negotiate with themselves and then take the blame for all the problems that result.
Stand firm.
"We´ve offered a budget in the House"
"The president´s budget offer wasn´t able to garner even 1 vote so it´s not on the table any more"
"the Senate Democrats haven´t offered a budget, so we´re waiting"
Put the focus on the Democrats failure to offer a realistic budget from the WH and nothing from the Senate.
Stop trying to offer more ideas, or throw the Democrats a life raft.

Former Nebraska Senator Chuck Hagel is apparently the prospective Obama nominee to replace Leon Panetta as the Secretary of Defense.
