Post-US world born in Phnom Penh
Asia Times, by Spengler

Original Article

Posted By:rolanddd, 11/29/2012 9:06:06 PM

It is symptomatic of the national condition of the United States that the worst humiliation ever suffered by it as a nation, and by a US president personally, passed almost without comment last week. I refer to the November 20 announcement at a summit meeting in Phnom Penh that 15 Asian nations, comprising half the world´s population, would form a Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership excluding the United States.

Comments:
Even after Obama is gone the people that elected him will remain. The U.S. will be a little smaller every year and the foreign media will increasingly be the only reliable source of information and perspective.

America as we know it died on January 20, 2009.

America as I knew it died when Mario Savio, in 1963, climbed on a truck bed with a megaphone and blasted the world with obscenities. We never recovered and all I have left of that once decent pre-Savio America are old movies on Netflix, big bands on Pandora and a couple of old friends.

No nation will take seriously a currency that continues to be devalued by unbridled government spending tied to inflationary monetary policy by its lender of choice. The reserve currency status of the dollar will be dead by 2016. Then we will be beholden to the Communist dragon.

I would give my blood and treasure to see the makers of this nation come together, secede from the takers, and rebuild using the innovation, efficiency, and sheer kick-@55 spirit this nation still has outside the inner city entitlement waste lands and DC cesspool. Freedom is too young to die.

I remember not liking Kennedy for the Bogotá Agreement which sent my mother´s job to Mexico,

I remember not liking Nixon because my Poly-Sci professor "smelled a rat" in Edmond Muskie´s resignation and McGovern ran instead,

I remember being the only one in my peer group that distrusted Carter and wanted Ford.

I remember thinking Regan couldn´t be ´that´ conservative, as conservative as me, and win the presidency,

But loosing Australia to China in trade agreements........I do not want to remember this!

Loosely related, we need to stop IMMEDIATELY with the billions of dollars of "foreign aid" to other countries. Pakistan is no friend of ours, Egypt has been around thousands of years, they can figure things out themselves. We should wrap up Afghanistan and Iraq, with limited ongoing aid.

We´ve heard all the excuses for years, that these are "investments" that bring value to the US. No they don´t. How about we help our real friends when they have disasters, like Poland, Israel, etc. Why is there foreign aid to places like Vietnam? Do hardworking Americans even know that their money ends up in these places?

How will this election be seen in history? Obviously, it depends on who wins. If Barack Obama is defeated, the irresistible comparison will be with Jimmy Carter. A one-term president was rejected after pursuing big government programs amid high energy prices and attacks on America in the Middle East....

It hasn’t been a good weekend for the President. The NBC/WSJ poll, released earlier today, shows the race tied at 47 percent. ... The latest Gallup poll has Romney up 7 points, 52-45. NRO hears that the latest attempt by the President’s team to check Romney’s momentum will come via a years-old video in which Romney sounds more conciliatory toward the PRC. Romney, of course, will be portrayed as a flip-flopper. It will be another instance of “Romnesia.”

The Pew poll is devastating, just devastating. Before the debate, Obama had a 51 - 43 lead; now, Romney has a 49 - 45 lead. That's a simply unprecedented reversal for a candidate in October. Before Obama had leads on every policy issue and personal characteristic; now Romney leads in almost all of them. Obama's performance gave Romney a 12 point swing! I repeat: a 12 point swing. Romney's favorables are above Obama's now. Yes, you read that right. Romney's favorables are higher than Obama's right now. That gender gap that was Obama's firewall? Over in one night:

Denver — The elements of Mitt Romney’s Rocky Mountain rout were hatched weeks ago in Vermont’s Green Mountains. In early September, Romney slowed down his campaign schedule and retreated with a small group of advisers to the home of Kerry Healey, his former lieutenant governor. Ohio senator Rob Portman, a trusted ally, joined Stuart Stevens, Eric Fehrnstrom, Bob White, and a handful of other Romney confidants. They spent days holding mock debates, and nights reviewing President Obama’s stylistic tics. When they needed a break, they roamed around Healey’s secluded estate, which is 100 miles south of Burlington, Vt. ...

North Korea’s young leader Kim Jong-un is waiting for United States President Barack Obama to make a phone call to Pyongyang to discuss easing tensions on the Korean peninsula, according to Russia’s news agency Itar-Tass. The report cited United Kingdom diplomats, saying Pyongyang was demanding the U.S. president personally call Kim Jong-un as one of the conditions to relieve the current conflict at hand. Itar-Tass also quoted the U.K.’s Sky News as saying North Korea currently has eight nuclear warheads.

HARTFORD, Conn. -- With time running out on the chance to pass gun control legislation, President Barack Obama on Monday warned Congress not to use delaying tactics against tighter regulations and told families of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting victims that he´s "determined as ever" to honor their children with tougher laws. Obama´s gun control proposals have run into resistance on Capitol Hill, leaving their fate in doubt. Efforts by Senate Democrats to reach compromise with Republicans over expanding required federal background checks have yet to yield an agreement, and conservatives were promising to try

Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church. This begs the question, “Why are we losing our religion?”

Los Angeles — Some people have had it with TV. They´ve had enough of the 100-plus channel universe. They don´t like timing their lives around network show schedules. They´re tired of $100-plus monthly bills. A growing number of them have stopped paying for cable and satellite TV service, and don´t even use an antenna to get free signals over the air. Beginning a week of high pressure on gun control, the White House on Monday accused some Republican senators of cowardice for planning to filibuster gun legislation without allowing the full Senate to vote on President Obama’s initiatives. “If they oppose this legislation, have the courage to say so on the floor and vote no,” said White House press secretary Jay Carney. “Don’t block it. Don’t hide behind a procedural action to prevent a vote. That’s the wrong thing to do, and that’s how the president clearly feels.”

There was growing buzz over the weekend that a bipartisan agreement on gun control — a deal that would expand background checks — could hit the floor as early as this week. However, any deal could be derailed by the looming threat of a Republican filibuster involving Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. With Cruz standing proudly in the way of any gun legislation, Democrats are trying to make him pay a political price — and even a couple of high-profile Republicans are questioning his tactics.

Amid all of the very real threats of war and stuff from North Korea, you´d think American intelligence officers want as much video footage of the enemy as possible. Well, here is one video featuring North Korean exercises and Kim Jong-Un holding a gun, and we´ll say this: they certainly get points for presentation. Remember the clap-happy report from Dennis Rodman´s diplomatic basketball vacation? This video comes courtesy of the same Youtube channel that gave us that Rodman video.
