5 Dirty Little Secrets
About the Bush Tax Cuts

Invesetor´s Business Daily, by John Merline

Original Article

Posted By:RustMB, 11/29/2012 7:21:36 AM

It´s been more than 10 years since President Bush signed his first round of tax cuts into law. And in the years since, those cuts have been the source of constant attacks. [snip] But a decade of debate and discussion has managed to shed little light on what the Bush tax cuts actually did. So as the debate heats up once again as part of the "fiscal cliff" negotiations, it´s worth taking the time to highlight some of the things most people never knew about the Bush-era tax cuts.

And again I will ask, where the H--- was the Republican Party (or Romney for that matter) re: the tax cuts benefitting the "rich" when actually they benefitted the middle class the Party was trying to court? Just wait till Jan. lst and, amazingly, people will see just who those tax cuts benefitted, and how they actually HELPED the economy.....but don´t except the main stream media, for whom I have little but contempt, to point this out. And expect, as ever, a vast silence from the Republican Party.

Hey Jeb, you are right.

I wish we could for once have a candidate who is smart enough to know what to say and simple enough to say it in a way that connects with Joe Sixpack, Brenda Birthcontrol, Wilma Welfare, etc.

One of my biggest complaints is that Republicans are grossly incompetent when it comes to PR and educating the public. This article shows how easy it is to articulate that lower tax rates leads to more revenue.

Reply 4 - Posted by: OhMy, 11/29/2012 9:11:59 AM     (No. 9039079)

Republicans are paralyzed by Alinsky tactics stirring ups envy, jealousy and hatred. They never manage to make these points. The GOP old bulls need to be replaced with someone with the guts and articulate enough to make this case. Capitalism is the most efficient way to organize society. Rich people get there by making good decisions about their investments. They make good decisions because they are playing with their own money. The Rich handle a lot of money but they do not consume so much more than other people. Obama and socialists make poor decisions in investments, they pick losers, because they are playing with other peoples money and they keep their job after they loose. Romney was too timid to compare his record of success at Bain Capital with Obama´s record of failure investing in the green economy.

Reply 5 - Posted by: Clinger, 11/29/2012 9:17:23 AM     (No. 9039090)

We lost the argument incrementally over the years as the phrase "Bush tax cut for the rich" was used over and over.... For the vast majority of casual observes of the political process, also empowered to vote, the message was seared into their brains. Similarly in some circles Bush stole the election, flew the planes into the towers while he was hiding under a desk in a grade school. It´s an unchallenged given.

Reply 6 - Posted by: jerseyden, 11/29/2012 9:22:49 AM     (No. 9039097)

Agree with all above. One of the things I don´t understand is why they are called the Bush tax cuts. They expired in 2010. They were extended by the "O" admin. I do believe they will expire by dem design so they can tax the middle class(that´s where the money is) and blame the repubs.

Reply 7 - Posted by: oh-heck, 11/29/2012 9:32:13 AM     (No. 9039120)

The GOP would be foolish to get involved. Let the tax cuts expired and put those 8 million low income folks back on the tax roles. Let them figure out who´s working in their interests.

Thanks to John McCain, the "Bush" tax cuts were temporary. Were it not for Johnny-boy all BO could call for now is tax increases. Instead, we have to fight on two fronts.

Reply 9 - Posted by: brianod1, 11/29/2012 10:49:17 AM     (No. 9039291)

The use of the term "Bush tax cuts" shows just how in the pocket of the D party the press is. The current rates have been in existence for, what, over 10 years now. The previous rates were not something handed down by the Almighty - we do not need to go back to them, ever. If you don´t read ´keep existing tax rates´ in a story but instead read ´extend Bush tax cuts´ then you know you can ignore the story, and sadly that is essentially ever story ever written on tis topic.

The old guard GOP lack guts and PR expertise. They won´t be winning any more major political battles until they learn that.

#7 Absolutly correct. I say let it happen. What does it matter which party looses the blame game. They both have become brother and sister of the same power hungry, spendthrift, feckless and arrogant family.

Let the finger pointing begin between Tweedledee and Tweedledum.

Sadly, we have no real American leader (Dem or Repub)and as the election demonstrated, a majority of the populace are ignorant and apathetic. Hit em in the wallet and maybe they will wake-up and give a sh*t.

Even the talk show guys are not able to explain this properly. And why have the past Bush financial people not explained this?

Almost as many people signed up with the federal government´s permanent worker disability program as got jobs in March, according to two sets of government data, continuing a troubling trend throughout the Obama recovery. Last month, 81,804 workers left the workforce to join the Social Security Disability Insurance program. So far this year, nearly a quarter million workers have joined the program. Over the past four years, 4 million left the workforce to go on disability.

What it reveals is that most of them don´t want what the administration is trying to force them to buy. In a series of slides posted on the Health and Human Services´ website, the administration explains how it plans to market ObamaCare to the uninsured. Let´s leave aside for a minute the oddity of this effort. Its backers have endlessly touted ObamaCare as a miracle of modern government that will at long last bring insurance within reach of 48 million people

Americans are migrating from less-free liberal states to more-free conservative states, where they are doing better economically, according to a new study published Thursday by the George Washington University´s Mercatus Center. The "Freedom in the 50 States" study measured economic and personal freedom using a wide range of criteria, including tax rates, government spending and debt, regulatory burdens, and state laws covering land use, union organizing, gun control, education choice and more.

Just over three years ago, then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi famously quipped about ObamaCare that "we have to pass the bill so you can find out what is in it." But only now, as ObamaCare´s third anniversary approaches — President Obama signed it into law on March 23, 2010 — is the country starting to find out what the sweeping health care overhaul will actually do. ObamaCare backers typically tout popular features that went into effect almost immediately. The law expanded Medicare´s drug coverage, for example, and let children stay on their parents´ plans until they turned 26. But the bulk

Food Stamp Nation: A little town in Rhode Island shows where liberalism and all its talk of economic "security" ultimately leads — a stale economy and suffocating dependence on big government. In a surprisingly candid and lengthy expose, the Washington Post described how Woonsocket, an economically depressed town in Rhode Island, has been turned upside down by food stamps. With a third of the town enrolled, food stamps have created a huge boom-and-bust economy in Woonsocket

In their first budget in four years, Senate Democrats claim to have crafted a plan that cuts federal spending a total of $975 billion over the next decade. "This budget cuts spending responsibly," said Senate Budget Chairman Patty Murray, D-Wash., this week. "There are no sacred cows; we put everything we can on the table." But an IBD review of the budget data shows that the Senate vastly overstates the size of its spending cuts. In fact, it could be that the Senate would, if enacted, increase federal spending by hundreds of billions of dollars.

Budget: When President Obama put out his "balanced" plan to avoid the automatic sequester cuts, no one noticed. Which is probably just as well for Obama, given how embarrassingly unbalanced it is. [snip] Last week, New York Times columnist David Brooks wrote about how Obama "hasn´t actually come up with a proposal to avert sequestration, let alone one that is politically plausible." Turns out, Obama did have one, although Brooks can be excused for not knowing it, since the administration hasn´t exactly been promoting this so-called plan.

On Tuesday, Sen. Jeff Sessions touted a government report that blew a $6.2 trillion hole in President Obama´s promise that his signature health reform wouldn´t add a dime to the deficit. According to the report by the Government Accountability Office, that promise rested entirely on several cost-control mechanisms in ObamaCare that almost no one thinks will work. [snip] Still, bad as this $6.2 trillion deficit boost is, the real figure is likely to be much higher, since the GAO is still being far too optimistic about the rest of ObamaCare. Sequester: If you want to know how misleading the Obama administration is being about the effects of the sequester, look no further than Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood´s dark warnings about flight delays. LaHood showed up at the daily White House press briefing Friday to claim the sequester — automatic spending cuts President Obama insisted on that are now scheduled to take effect in March — will "be very painful for the flying public." For years, ObamaCare critics focused on its least popular feature — the mandate that everyone buy insurance — taking their fight all the way to the Supreme Court. But as ObamaCare´s official launch date approaches, even its backers are beginning to admit that the law could actually create powerful incentives for millions of people and thousands of businesses to drop their coverage, despite the mandate. There is growing concern, for example, that the law´s market reforms will cause a huge "rate shock," particularly for those young and healthy.

Sequester: In his State of the Union speech, President Obama is sure to issue dire warnings about the automatic spending cuts resulting from the "sequester." But look closer, and the cuts are far less than meet the eye. As the March deadline for the sequester draws closer, Obama´s rhetoric about the cuts it will impose grows more overheated.
