[Grrr...Sorry about empty post above...the text entry window was off the screen. It looked like I needed to log in BEFORE entering text.]

The article doesn´t mention the industries that were hiring (assuming the government wasn´t the big employer). Any news on who / what was hiring? Just an overly experienced EE/computer geek looking to escape from Illinois.

This is a feel good story? 4.6% in September and 4.9% in October? This sounds to me like there is an escalating unemployment rate to me. Long term there seemed to be brightening skies but these numbers are still nothing to brag about.

What this shows is that Oklahoma City residents are a lot different from say, Chicago or Detroit or Atlanta residents. Or New Jersey and New York.

There is plenty to like about the West and it´s people. Not so many people with their hands out unless it´s to shake your hand in friendship.

I visited Oklahoma City in August. It was 113 degrees and everywhere you looked downtown there were crains up everywhere and workers building and building and building.
Friendly people in a harsh environment with a business friendly attitude.

Oklahoma may be like Texas -- 26 weeks and you aren´t unemployed anymore, which means no increase in unemployment rates since 2009.

Oklahoma passed very strict laws about hiring illegal aliens. Now we know that Americans are willing to those jobs after all. want to fix your unemployment rate in your state? Follow Oklahoma´s lead.

#5, throughout the boom years of the ´90s, and under GWB in the 2000s, we had 5.0 to 5.5% unemployment. This was considered the ideal "full" employment by many. OK´s numbers are impressive. Quibbling over a few tenths of a percent is ignoring the bigger picture.

This weekend is the dedication of the newest memorial on the State Capitol grounds--the Texas Vietnam Veterans Memorial. The bronze statues were finished just a few weeks ago at a foundry in Bastrop. We were there for the final pours along with some others who have a vested interest. Man has been working with bronze for thousands of years and most of those at the Heart of Texas Foundry hope this bronze will last thousands of years. It´s to remember the 3,417 Texas vets who did not come back from the Vietnam conflict. This final pouring culminates an 11 year

(Tweet, Photographs) If the unidentified aircraft photographed over Amarillo turns out to be a new U.S. spy plane, it wouldn´t be the first time. Aviation Week & Space Technology journalist Bill Sweetman has posted photos taken March 10 by two veteran sky watchers, Steve Douglass and Dean Muskett. In his blog post of March 28, Sweetman writes that he and two Aviation Week editors agree that the photos depict "something real." The past couple of weeks have marked a turning point in American ugliness as the mob has turned its full fury on first lady Michelle Obama. From criticism of her trip to China to a recent “tell-all” by former White House assistant press secretary Reid Cherlin in the New Republic about Obama’s allegedly tyrannical behavior, the gloves have been removed. As described, she was a perfectionist — super-attentive to detail and laser-focused on advance planning. And this is bad because? Worse, according to a former (anonymous) staffer, there was no barometer for meeting Obama’s high standards. “The first lady having

The 2016 presidential primaries are still years away, but an unofficial one held this weekend in Las Vegas could prove incredibly lucky for at least one GOP contender´s coffers. It´s the spring meeting of the Republican Jewish Coalition, which is held at the Venetian casino, owned by Sheldon Adelson. Yes, the same Sheldon Adelson who donated $15 million to Newt Gingrich´s super PAC and $30 million to Mitt Romney´s super PAC. Four potential presidential candidates are hoping they can cajole Adelson, who is also on the Republican Jewish Coalition´s board, into giving them a leg-up in the already crowded Republican

Los Angeles County is the most populous county in the nation, with more than 10 million residents partly due to an influx of legal and illegal immigrants. According to census figures, L.A. The Clinton Library took the wraps off another batch of White House documents Friday afternoon, offering new insights into how aides scrambled to address the Monica Lewinsky scandal, how the hot-button issue of race tied the White House staff up in knots and how former President Bill Clinton cast a wide net for advice in advance of his major speeches. The new set of Clinton documents make little mention of then-first lady Hillary Clinton, and so are unlikely to have a major political impact. However, many of the memos were written by or mention aides to Bill Clinton who now

More than 100 aftershocks have been reported since a magnitude 5.1 earthquake rattled Southern California on Friday night. Most of the aftershocks have been small, but some were strong enough to be felt in the areas around the epicenter in northwestern Orange County. Meanwhile, officials surveyed the damage, which for the most part was considered minor. Fullerton police said early Saturday that as many as 50 people had been displaced by the quake. Several buildings are being investigated for possible structural damage, including some apartment buildings. The quake, centered near La Habra, caused furniture to tumble, pictures to fall off

As part of its plan to reduce U.S. greenhouse gas emissions, the Obama administration is targeting the dairy industry to reduce methane emissions in their operations. This comes despite falling methane emission levels across the economy since 1990. The White House has proposed cutting methane emissions from the dairy industry by 25 percent by 2020. Although U.S. agriculture only accounts for about 9 percent of the country’s greenhouse gas emissions, according to the Environmental Protection Agency, it makes up a sizeable portion of methane emissions — which is a very potent greenhouse gas. Some of these methane emissions come from

The shocker in a survey by PayScale, a research firm that focuses on compensation, is that there are schools where students would have been better off not attending. Why? The 20-year net return on their college investment amounts to a financial loss, even when financial aid is included. Taking the time to get and spend money on a degree, in short, means you might actually find yourself in a financial hole. The survey may add to parents' doubts about

When atheist director and co-writer Darren Aronofsky promised that his epic "Noah" would be "the least biblical film ever made," that was not hyperbole. "Noah" is a brilliant, compelling, beautifully-mounted, beautifully-acted piece of storytelling conceived for the sinister purpose of leading people to believe that Christianity and Judaism are something they are not. (Snip) What does matter, though, is The Message. The Message is everything. And this is where Aronofsky is the snake in the garden. Using a $135 million, he and Paramount have brilliantly and deviously disguised the Pagan god Gaia as the God of the Old Testament … as THE God.
