Young people want to be members of groups, to be accepted, but they will choose the group if it wins, not if it loses. Real Conservatism is dying out for two reasons; we´re older is the main reason. But almost equally important is that we don´t offer young people anything they want except restrictions -- or so they view it.

They reason the Left is so successful is that the Right, when it does fight back, fights with a dwindling army and a vague message. The message is vague because it isn´t heard; it´s drowned out by movies, public schools and the media. How should conservatives fight that?? We´re outgunned.

So where do we get the new soldiers? Dunn is right when he says the Tea Party is the home of the fighters. But they had better learn to fight dirtier than we have so far or we will never win another election -- the demographics have changed too much.

The repiblican´s biggest problem is they haven´t came up with any new logical solutins tonew and old problems. We´re all bemoaning Obamacare but we handed the issue to the left by doing nothing under 6 years of Bush having control over congress.To this day, no one still know what the GOP´s plan is for healthcare except buying insurance across state lines which is very impracticable considering the different health conditions of each state. Mississippi has lower rates due to tort reform,should everybody be allowed to buy insurance from them? No,other states need to push for medical liability reforms.Doctors are flooding into Texas because there´s more protection from Trial lawyers.

The simplest solution would have been sliding scale vouchers for people to buy private insurance which would have put more people in the pool,lowering costs.

The government sees insurance companie smaking a profit and they sure aren´t going to allow tax dollars to boost someone profits unless they build CFL lightbulbs.

Excellent read! I kept saying, yes, yes,and yes. We knew what happened to Palin and all the rest. The left has this tactic down pat and that is why they are winning. Even now, Mitt Romney is being ignored, it seems not one supporter is telling Romney what a good job he did. Think of it, he only lost by 2%. This is a very important article!! Folks this article missed a major point, everything in this administration including the media is plain corrupt. Uninformed Folks to have to pay attention to this: things MUST be bad. Two more thoughts:

The unspoken issue: abortion. Women voters are conditioned to see any anti-abortion sentiment as an invasion of their autonomy. The left was able to paint Romney as a virulent anti-abortionist.

Most important: Romney ran a negative campaign. Declaring himself to be against Obama-care without offering an appealing alternative turned off many nervous voters.
Pointing out the economic disaster was not enough; he was obliged to offer a comprehensive outline of how his ideas would work better. Foreign Policy: again critical, but without any picture of how his would work better. In short, few promises, many complaints and nothing to offer beyond his unquestionable competence. Mere competence was not enough.

Dunn is absolutely right. Conservatives have been playing the naive idiot for too long. It´s like we´re wearing a "kick me" sign and everyone is laughing at us and we just don´t understand what is going on while we are at the same time trying to get out message out.

Even the Bible tells Christians in Matthew 10:16 “I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves." So we are COMMANDED by Christ to be shrewd as a SNAKE. As conservatives, we grasp the concept of the meaning behind freedom. Sadly, the young and brainwashed minds do not, and buy into the hype of the Constitution being both outdated and/or a living document. This problem is our fault, allowing schools to babysit our children while we were too busy earning a living. Conservatives must own some responsibility for some failure in how our children were raised, and this is where it got us.

I became a conservative 30+ years ago when I was a student at Ohio State after being required to read Milton Friedman in a poly sci class. I clearly recall the professor explaining the difference between capitalism vs. socialism this way: "freedom to" vs. "freedom from." A lightbulb went on for me. Sadly, now we´re now living in a "freedom from" society. We´ve given up the freedom to achieve for the perceived comfort of freedom from want, need, etc. Not sure if it´s possible to change course.

Who is J.R. Dunn and what qualifies him/her to speak so authoritatively? A year ago, this same person predicted Obama´s fall in the last election and the success of the Catholic Church in resisting Obamacare. After the macaca incident, does J.R. Dunn seriously think that if George Allen photoshopped a picture of an actual monkey with a mohawk, his being called a racist would have been neutralized? One of the problems conservatives have is that we don´t control the media and the media actively works against us using tactics that range from snarkiness to outright calumny. Robert Bork should have punched Ted Kennedy in the face. The other problem we have is that we are vying for the favor of the willfully ignorant, the stupid and the criminal. I watch a documentary the other day and an ex-Nazi soldier who was interviewed; whose job it was to kill Jews and bury then in a long ditch. He was asked if he had any remorse, which he replied, none. When asked why, he said the Jews were the reason his family had problems (after WW1). The Jews never did anything to him or his family but he believed they did because the Nazi propaganda machine had convinced him it was so. It allowed him to kill innocent people with no guilt whatsoever. It allowed Germans to turn the other way.
Today, I am considered a woman hating, racist, homophobe because I hold traditional Christian values on life, races and sex. The masses are slowly being convince that I (and conservatism) am the problem and one day, will turn their heads when I am denied my rights, lose my job, or denied health care.
The media is turning into the Democrat propaganda machine and until people rise up against it, it will eventually consume us all.

For much too long, liberals have made a crusade out of defining conservatives with a totally false image. It’s their modus operandi. They lie, therefore they are. In this age of fast and loose communication, never has “perception is reality” been more factual.

Observably ashamed enough of his background, and abetted by the most corrupt, complicit media in our history hiding it, we’re now faced with another four years of our hoodwinked nation held hostage. THAT’S context!

The problem is simple: A majority of Americans have become conditioned to trust the mainstream media for their news. The MSM lean heavily toward the Left. So images of candidates are carefully nurtured to favor the Liberal politicians over the Conservative ones.

Watching the last 2 presidential campaigns was a real eye-opener, as the MSM monolithically and systematically bumped the most Conservative candidates, one by one, out of the race. By skewing their reporting to project a negative image of the candidate, or (as was the case in Fred Thompson´s 2008 campaign) simply not covering them at all to project the image of a lethargic candidate who doesn´t really want to win, they squeezed his donations stream to a halt, ending the viability of his campaign.

The solution is much less obvious. I´m not sure I see any realistic way to cure the disease without killing the patient (i.e. how to improve credibility in the press without government regulations that would discredit them entirely)

When all the money runs out for the freebies, you will see a return to Conservatism by huge groups of people. The tide will begin to turn, even for the immigrants to the country.

Being a Conservative is very difficult.
You must get out of bed in the morning and work.
You must stand by your principles.
You must take care of your family.
You must help those who CAN´T help themselves.

Why not pin the rich and entitled label on liberals? It wouldn´t be hard to do. Look where Obama, Rahm and all Hollywood send their kids to school. There is literally nothing new about this. These same truths were shouted from the mountaintops during the campaign by a few – who were dismissed as “Romney haters” and closet -0-bama supporters. It is interesting that Dunn commits the very same error he is excoriating in this article when it comes to Romney’s primary challengers.

The problem is that the GOP agrees with and reinforces the media and Democrat caricature of the GOP if they think it will win friends - like the puny nerd with the “kick me” sticker on his back laughs at being the “butt” of the joke as the bullies kick and taunt him. “You’re right media, those conservatives are loony! They suck!”

The problem with the GOP message is that the GOP doesn’t actually believe it. The problem with the GOP image is that the GOP rejects the principles of its own platform when facing criticism. You have to stand on something before you can be persuasive.

Also, never forget that the Democrats’ only aim is to win. They don’t care if the problems are fixed – they want to be in power. Even after the city is reduced to dust, they will still stand on the tallest pile of rubble blaming someone else and making extravagant promises.

The first order of business is to take and hold the beach, the Republican Party. There is no other way inland. Hacked computers, early voting (which allows dims to bus in disparate groups (homeless, nursing homes, SEIU, etc...) prior to election day), no picture ID´s and not purging voter rolls of the dead (so they can be impersonated) are the reason.

I will be fine as will most of us on this site. I´m not going to let the next four years affect my daily life. I am, however, disappointed.

You know, there´s signal and noise and fire and smoke. The post mortem of this election is all about smoke and noise. The first and foremost goal of conservatism---number one on the list of things to do to regain a foot hold in this nation---is to neutralize the liberal media!! They have spent the last 40 years dumbing down and liberalizing the public through their news censorship and mushroom growing propagandizing (keep ´em in the dark and cover them with manure). It´s no wonder 63 million ignorant mushrooms voted for the most incompetent man to ever run for president in 2008. I´m not convinced that there aren´t a couple of conservatives rich enough buy to out two of the big three broadcasters (ABCCBSNBC) and turn them into legitimate news organizations. The WAPO is slowly dying and maybe someone can convince Carlos Slim to give up bailing out the Times so it will go belly up. Until the American people are told the truth (the WHOLE truth) consistently every night on the 6 o’clock news they are going to continue to be dumb enough to fall for the socialist/labor/democrat lies on the campaign trail. How many times have you asked yourself "how could they be so dumb to vote for him"? Well, if your world view was filtered through ABCCBSNBCCNN you’d understand why.
