Obama quietly signs bill shielding
airlines from carbon fees in Europe

The Hill (DC), by Keith Laing

Original Article

Posted By:StormCnter, 11/28/2012 5:09:02 AM

President Obama has signed into law a bill that requires U.S. airlines be excluded from European carbon emissions fees. Environmentalists had framed the bill as the first test of the president´s commitment to fighting climate change in his second term and urged him to veto it. Obama quietly signed it Tuesday over their objections. "The Obama administration is firmly committed to reducing harmful carbon pollution from civil aviation both domestically and internationally, but, as we have said on many occasions, the application of the EU [Emissions Trading System] to non-EU air carriers is the wrong way to achieve that objective,"

This European proposal has been universally rejected but Obama had to oppose it quietly as to not offend and environmental wackos.

Any taxes or surcharges based on the climate change hoax hit brick walls when they´re thrown to the public. How often do you see a black, latino, muslim or asian really jump on the climate change express. It´s really a white liberal creation.Even non religious people believe in some sort of natural law which the earths activities are part of.

The earth has self maintenance programs where people just happen to get in the way of.What if they gave a tidal wave and nobody came?

Different groups of people have been warning for years that too many people live near the water and insurance policies aren´t much of a firewall of the costs involved in rebuilding. So people living inland wind up footing the bill for people who live in risky areas.

We actually threw stupid money at Katrina because of the racial component. Obama and the left don´t have such leverage on Sandy, even though we know minorities and women were hardest hit.

Obama delivers on jobs

Silly us. Here we’ve been criticizing the Obama administration for the dismal job growth we’ve seen these past five years. Turns out, we’ve got it backward. We’ve been measuring the president by the jobs the economy has been creating during his tenure. If two top Obama officials are right, we should count it an Obama success that more Americans will decide not to work. The latest weighing in is White House economic adviser Gene Sperling. On MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” he responded to a Congressional Budget Office finding that raising the minimum wage to $10.10 per hour, as the president proposes to do,

I will not explain to you what is happening in Kiev tonight other than to say that it is Vladimir Putin´s worst nightmare. The last time that this many people came out to the Independence Square (the Maidan) in Kiev, nine years ago, protesters undid the election of Victor Yanukovich and brought to power a Western-friendly government. In the process, they scared the living daylights out of Putin. (Snip)If it can happen in Kiev, in other words, it can happen in Moscow.

It has become such a repeated mantra in mainstream Republican circles, that it could be nearing cliché status: If the Republican Party is looking to stay politically viable in the future, it must win over Hispanic voters. But, thus far, it has become a case of easier said than done, considering Latinos have traditionally voted overwhelmingly Democrat. But the GOP need not lose hope, party insiders say — just look to Texas. A revealing Gallup poll unveiled this month found that in the Lone Star State, more Hispanics identify themselves as Republican than in the country as a whole. Nationwide, Democrats hold

READING, Pa. -- Orange cones and flashing police lights confronted Ricardo Nieves as he rounded a bend on the way to his mother´s house. Before he knew what was going on, Nieves said a man working for a government contractor stepped in front of his car and forced him to turn into a parking lot. There, a woman repeatedly tried to question him about his driving habits and asked for a mouth swab that would detect the presence of illegal or prescription drugs in his system. Nieves refused. Then he sued, contending his rights were violated. His Dec. 13 experience has been

Debt-limit vote shows Cornyn’s courage,

With allies like Ted Cruz, U.S. Sen. John Cornyn doesn’t need enemies. Thanks to Sen. Cruz’s latest procedural stunt, Cornyn, a reliably conservative Republican from Texas with a record of responsible governance, now finds himself under siege from bomb-throwing elements of the extreme right over last week’s Senate vote to extend the government’s borrowing authority. Republican leaders in the Senate sought an up-or-down vote that would put all Democrats firmly on record as supporting the debt-limit extension. But Cruz upset all that, demanding the debt-limit bill first clear a nit-picky procedural hurdle requiring 60 votes. With only 55 votes, Democrats were

Wealthy condo developers and the owners of expensive beach houses are petitioning the Federal Emergency Management Agency to cut them a break on flood insurance costs. Meaning that the long-unbalanced insurance system is only getting more uneven, and taxpayers´ subsidies to those property owners are getting more unfair. Here´s how flood insurance works, in the ideal. FEMA develops maps of areas near the coast or inland bodies of water and rivers. Those maps try and anticipate the likelihood of flooding, and if you build in zones that are likely to flood, you pay mandatory insurance premiums linked to the likelihood of

Is anyone more hypocritical than a professional environmentalist? In case anyone needs a hint, see this month’s exhibit: As North American environmental activists throw all of their energy and resources into blocking Canada from selling its oil to the United States, they have haven’t made a peep over Iran increasing its own oil exports. And one would think they’d care, as the environmentalists’ entire rationale for opposing Keystone is that if a pipeline from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico is built, more carbon will be put into the atmosphere. But their problem here — and often — is that

Pity the president, first among equals, obliged by the pulls of democracy and of his office to be "equal" and also be "first" all at once. Picking a leader, people look for somebody well above average, stronger and brighter, with superior judgment, keener intelligence and the ability to be calm under stress. At the same time, he must be approachable, cool and in some sort of touch with the people he works for, or lose a key part of the human connection that is a critical source of his strength. The first six presidents were aristocrats of different varieties, four Virginians and

He says that includes making sure that the military doesn´t step into a situation that civilians should resolve. Obama says the U.S. condemns the violence in the strongest terms. He says the U.S. holds Ukraine´s government primarily responsible to ensure it´s dealing with peaceful protesters appropriately.

WASHINGTON, D.C., February 17, 2014 – President Barack Obama has elevated the right to have sex with a member of the same sex to the level of universal “fundamental freedoms” in a new presidential statement criticizing Uganda. But critics say his promotion of homosexuality in a continent that overwhelmingly opposes that behavior amounts to a form of liberal “cultural imperialism.” Obama wrote on Sunday that he opposed a proposed bill in Uganda that would criminalize same-sex “marriages” and impose life imprisonment for repeated homosexual acts, among other provisions, because “as a country and a people, the United States has consistently

Last week, Boehner and McConnell faced down the Tea Party’s threat to cripple the government when they supported raising the nation’s debt ceiling. That move prevented GOP political suicide. If the nation’s credit rating, stocks and the recovery went down the sewer because of Republicans’ refusal to raise the debt ceiling, the GOP’s chances in the midterm elections would have been severely damaged.
