| MEXICO CITY - Venezuelan bonds rallied on Wednesday by the most in nearly six months after President Hugo Chavez said he would return to Cuba for medical treatment, raising bets that his health has faltered. Chavez said he will travel to Cuba on Tuesday for medical treatment, following a nearly two-week absence from the public eye, months after undergoing cancer surgery on the communist-run island. If his health does worsen, his unwieldy coalition of military leaders and leftist social activists could fall apart. "This announcement is in line with our view that the president´s health is deteriorating,

Even if Chavez dies, so many Venezuelans are now dependent on the government that they´ll elect another dictator.

I don´t know about a rally incentive for bonds here, #3. However, my husband a I have moved a large part of our investments to bonds. My financial advisor says that with a good bond group we can look to make 5%, which ten, fifteen years ago would be small change. Today not losing money is the goal. Our advisor is crazy busy with folks looking to ptotect what they´ve got left.
As an aside, when my youngest got a great job after graduation I sent her to him after the "if I had known at your age about 401ks, investing, blah blah" speach I was very impressed at her investments which included gold! Lord, all that "raising" paid off!

"That must stop immediately; it must cease straight away," Urosa told radio station Unión Radio as he referred to reports of persecution and harassment against civil servants and dissenters by pro-government sectors. The reports have been filed by human rights and political organizations recently.

The US Government on Tuesday denied that it is "considering" any sanctions on Venezuela and said it did not see any threats to the bilateral economic relation. "That´s not something that we´re currently contemplating at this moment," US State Department spokesman Patrick Ventrell said. Reference was made to US sanctions on Venezuela. His comments came in a daily press briefing on Tuesday, EFE cited. The statement came in response to declarations on Monday by Venezuelan Foreign Minister Elías Jaua, who said that the Venezuelan Government would respond to any US sanction by taking actions in trade and energy.

Just like other government spokespersons, she accused opposition leader Henrique Capriles Radonski of igniting violence across the country because he failed to recognize the election results. She vowed to send Capriles to jail for such actions.

These days, young Hollywood is much less raucous than the "golden age of crotch shots" in the mid-2000s, long before Lindsay inflated her lips and Paris still seemed relevant. Which is why Monday´s report of OG trainwreck Tara Reid getting escorted out of All Saints for acting like an animal revives a spot in our heart once held for the out-of-control, pin-thin party girls of yore. The New York Daily News reports that Reid popped into the British import´s Robertson Boulevard location over the weekend to pick up some Coachella gear

After being carried through the streets of London in a flag-draped coffin aboard a gun carriage, former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher was laid to rest this morning in St. Paul´s Cathedral. But the big story of the day wasn´t Maggie. No, it was a 19-year-old Texan who stole the show from the deceased Iron Lady. With a poise reminiscent of the elder Thatcher, Amanda Thatcher, Margaret´s granddaughter, delivered a reading from Epistles that has the British media agog. Amanda, who lives with her mother in Texas, chose a rather militant passage that calls on believers

"After what we have lived and seen, and the delicate situations we have witnessed, we may say that we cannot objectively and categorically attest to a fully democratic and clean vote in this great country," said Spanish Gustavo Palomares, the president of the Institute of Higher European Studies. He was one of the international guests accredited by the National Electoral Council (CNE) and invited by the opposition coalition. In this sense, international guests supported the petition of opposition candidate Henrique Capriles Radonski for a thorough and objective recount of "each tally sheet, each polling station, and each voters´ roll."

Latin America: Venezuela´s election on Sunday, which saw bus driver Nicolas Maduro declared the winner by a razor-thin margin, reeked of electoral fraud. Kudos to challenger Henrique Capriles for calling it out. Fraud is a strong word but, yes, it´s the clearest conclusion from Venezuela´s election Sunday to pick a successor to the late socialist dictator Hugo Chavez. Chavez´s hand-picked successor "won" Venezuela´s election Sunday, with what Chavez´s anything-but impartial CNE electoral body declaring he´d gotten 50.6% of the vote, while his challenger, Miranda state governor Henrique Capriles Radonski garnered 49.07% — a gap of just 235,000 votes.

icolas Maduro, political heir to the late Hugo Chavez, was declared the winner of Venezuela’s presidential election yesterday in a result that was immediately challenged by the opposition. The 50-year-old former bus driver received 50.7 percent of the votes, the national electoral council said after about 99 percent of ballots were counted. Henrique Capriles Radonski, who temporarily stepped down as governor of Miranda state to run, had 49.1 percent and vowed to contest the results. “We had a fair and constitutional victory,” Maduro said after the results were announced. “This is another victory, a homage to our comandante Hugo Chavez.”

In Obama´s Audacity of Hope, he stated, "I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in any ugly direction." He also asserted in Bob Woodward´s Obama´s Wars, "We can absorb [another] terrorist attack." These are two straightforward statements that raise the question of whether a man who has been seemingly obsessed with reaching out to "the Muslim world" since taking office is capable of fulfilling his duty as commander-in-chief to keep America safe and secure.

George W. Bush will return to the spotlight this week for the dedication of his presidential library, an event likely to trigger fresh public debate about his eight fateful years in office. But he reemerges with a better public image than when he left Washington more than four years ago. Since then, Bush has absented himself from both policy disputes and political battles. A new Washington Post-ABC News poll suggests that the passage of time and Bush’s relative invisibility have been beneficial to a chief executive who left office surrounded by controversy.

Citing administration emails provided to the House committees, the 46-page report claims that “to protect the State Department, the Administration deliberately removed references to al-Qaeda-linked groups and previous attacks

Marathon bombings mastermind Tamerlan Tsarnaev was living on taxpayer-funded state welfare benefits even as he was delving deep into the world of radical anti-American Islamism, the Herald has learned. State officials confirmed last night that Tsarnaev, slain in a raging gun battle with police last Friday, was receiving benefits along with his wife, Katherine Russell Tsarnaev, and their 3-year-old daughter. The state’s Executive Office of Health and Human Services said those benefits ended in 2012 when the couple stopped meeting income eligibility limits. Russell Tsarnaev’s attorney has claimed Katherine — who had converted to Islam —

Tamerlan Tsarnaev is telling no tales. The older of the two brothers who committed the Boston Marathon bombings was likely the one who planned the attack, but when he died in a shootout with police just days after the blasts, his thoughts and motivations vanished with him. But the brain that was home to his angry mind remains, and in this case that may mean something. Tsarnaev was an amateur boxer who won the New England Golden Gloves competition as recently as 2009 and 2010. That speaks to a young man with a healthy sense

President Obama and the First Lady have come up with a crafty strategy to prevent their daughters from getting tattoos — and it banks on the girls thinking their parents are deeply uncool. “What we’ve said to the girls is, ‘If you guys ever decide you´re going to get a tattoo, then mommy and me will get the exact same tattoo. In the same place,’” Obama said with a smile. “And we´ll go on YouTube and show it off as a family tattoo.” “And our thinking is that might dissuade them from thinking that that somehow that´s

Apparently the latest craze in NYC is to let your babies’ freak flags fly by letting them go commando: When Jada Shapiro decided to raise her daughter from birth without diapers, for the most part, not everyone was amused. Ms. Shapiro scattered little bowls around the house to catch her daughter’s offerings, and her sister insisted that she use a big, dark marker to mark the bowls so that they could never find their way back to the kitchen. But “elimination communication,” as the diaper-free method of child-rearing is called,

In the wake of the Boston Marathon bombings, Mayor Michael Bloomberg said Monday the country’s interpretation of the Constitution will “have to change” to allow for greater security to stave off future attacks. “The people who are worried about privacy have a legitimate worry,” Mr. Bloomberg said during a press conference in Midtown. “But we live in a complex word where you’re going to have to have a level of security greater than you did back in the olden days, if you will. And our laws and our interpretation of the Constitution, I think, have to change.”
