2 gang members shot at
funeral: ´Please pray for Chicago´

Chicago Tribune, by Jeremy Gorner, Liam Ford*

Two reputed gang members were shot this afternoon at a funeral for a man who was slain on the South Side last week, with a minister at the services tweeting afterward, "This is Crazy." The two men were shot outside St. Columbanus Church in the 300 block of East 71st Street shortly before 12:30 p.m., across the street from the A.A. Rayner & Sons Funeral Home, police said. They were taken in critical condition to Stroger, according to Chicago Fire Department spokesman Will Knight. Both victims are convicted felons and known gang members, police said.

I´m curious about this Rev. Corey Brooks. Looks like he might run for Jesse Jackson Jr.´s seat.

I wonder how he feels about our Lord and Savior, Barack Obama.

There seems to be an undercurrent of cynicism and hate in this community. This attitude doesn´t come from those who believe in the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

It is difficult to pray for those that won´t help themselves. Hard to feel sympathy for those who won´t do for themselves and have no problem taking from from others. Choices have consequences...big ones. They choose to live the life they do, they choose drugs, crime ridden lives, choose to live like animals, choose to live in a way that is not living, contributing, being a member of society.

The State of Illinois should immediately reinstate the death penalty to reduce the death and injury occurring in Chicago. Reinstatement of the death penalty would seem to be a no-brainer since most of the victims in Chicago are Democrats who look like Obama.

Looked up St. Columbanus Church and found that it´s Catholic. Looked up Rev. Corey Brooks out of curiosity. (He didn´t sound like any Catholic priest I´ve ever met -- planning a run for JJJr.´s congressional seat and leaving by the side door to do a radio interview.)

Sure enough, the Reverend is not Catholic, but a bona fide "hoodologist." According to his website:

"A pastor to pastors, Pastor Brooks has ministered internationally in Asia, Africa, and South America; he is frequently called upon to teach church planting strategies, leadership and urban ministry development locally and nationally. Because of his success in urban ministry development, he has been deemed a “Hoodologist.”

So why is the Catholic Church in Chicago renting out its pulpit to hoodologists? What next? Ganstatarians?

#15 - I also looked up St. Columbanus in Chicago, and their website says the Pastor is Father Mike Knotek. http://stcolumbanuschicago.org/mission.html

While Brooks may have "preached the funeral", he certainly isn´t a Catholic priest, and as for being a pastor, well, he´s likely a $10 pastor - e.g., $10 for the certificate.

It is not clear whether the funeral was being held at the church or the funeral home which is cross the street.

In the video Rev Brooks des not mention being in church...just the "funeral."

Since eulogies are not (supposed to be) permitted in Catholic funerals, I think the writer of the article assumed it was in the church because a church happened to be there.

With the in-depth reporting and fact checking done these days I don´t trust anyone or anything I read.

BTW..this Rev. Brooks seems to be a good guy and just might make a difference if he got JJJr.s seat.

BEIJING — Forty ships and more than 20 airplanes were searching for a missing Malaysia Airlines jet Sunday but by nightfall had not found any wreckage, Malaysian authorities said. Meanwhile, Interpol confirmed that two stolen passports—one Italian, one Austrian—used by passengers on the plane had been entered into the agency’s database following their thefts in Thailand in 2012 and 2013. However, the agency said no checks of those passport numbers were made by any country between the time they were entered into Interpol’s database and the time that Flight MH370 departed Kuala Lumpur early Saturday. “Whilst it is too soon

Via Matt Lewis, here’s Maverick once again demonstrating that “cordial relationship” in politico-speak means “two people who can’t publicly admit to hating each other but obviously do.” And it’s a cheap shot. Cruz’s point yesterday at CPAC was that Dole, McCain, and Romney lost because they weren’t conservative enough. That’s not because they’re gutless — he said specifically that they were “good” and “decent” men — but because they’re not committed, full-throated ideologues, even less so when they’re fighting for purple states in a national election. We can debate whether that’s true but there’s nothing offensive in raising the subject.

Hers, however, is an eloquent silence. The most intrusive and potentially most punitive federal agency has been politicized; the IRS has become an appendage of Barack Obama’s party. One of the most seismic changes in American politics over the last decade has been the emergence of a sharp generational split among the electorate. The Democratic Party owes its success in the last two presidential elections almost entirely to overwhelming support among the very young, which has overcome continued conservatism among older voters. The Pew Research Institute has dominated the field of exploring the ideological cleavages among different generations. And its latest survey shows again how the liberalism of the youngest voting cohort, millennials, remains firm, and likely to continue to recast the electorate. A few charts from the survey

Barack Obama´s parents were "married in name only," according to David Maraniss´s 2012 Barack Obama: The Story. But since definitions of an "in name only" marriage vary, such as "a marriage of convenience" or "a sexless marriage," and Maraniss failed to explain his claim, it is unclear what he was implying. Therefore, Obama´s oft-told nativity story must be searched for the full implications of Obama´s parents´ "in name only" marriage. Disbelieving family and friends of an ex-Navy SEAL who died of an apparent drugs overdose on the ship made famous in the movie Captain Phillips are convinced of a ´cover-up´ and have called for a US investigation into his death, MailOnline can reveal today. The body of Mark Kennedy, a super fit, highly-decorated member of the elite fighting force, was found inside a cabin on the cargo ship Maersk Alabama - the vessel involved in a 2009 hijacking that ended with Somali pirates shot dead by SEALs. The subject of reparations has simmered in the Caribbean for many years and opinions are divided. Some see reparations as delayed justice, while others see it as an empty claim and a distraction from modern social problems in Caribbean societies. Slavery ended throughout the Caribbean

The Boeing 777-200ER flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing had been missing for hours when Vietnam´s Tuoi Tre news quoted Admiral Ngo Van Phat as saying he had asked boats from an island off south Vietnam to rush to the crash site. If the report is confirmed, it would mark the U.S.-built airliner´s deadliest crash since entering service 19 years ago. Malaysia Airlines had yet to confirm that the aircraft had crashed. It said earlier in the day that no distress signal
