Obama faces huge challenge in setting up insurance exchanges

| The Obama administration faces major logistical and financial challenges in creating health insurance exchanges for states that have declined to set up their own systems. The exchanges were designed as the centerpiece of President Obama’s signature law, and are intended to make buying health insurance comparable to booking a flight or finding a compatible partner on Match.com. Sixteen states — most of them governed by Republicans — have said they will not set up their own systems, forcing the federal government to come up with one instead.

This should be entertaining... Watching the educated idiots that came up with this abomination try to actually do what they fantasized about has to be comical, in a Keystone Cops sort of fashion...

What if King Obama issued a decree and no one complied? That´s about the size of it.
Thomas Jefferson wrote; "Congress has not unlimited powers to provide for the general welfare, but is restrained to those specifically enumerated."
This confiscatory power grab from Washington is totally unconstitutional. The Supreme Court is ignorant or diabolical, but for sure they are NOT working to defend and uphold the Constitution! We know Obama is diabolical.

There´s more than 600 pages of Federal regulations covering the exchanges. They´re going to hammer them all into a square hole.

Flash back to 1972. Dr. Harvey Karman, a star of the abortion movement, came up with a bold publicity stunt. The 1972 "mass Mother´s Day abortion," as the Chicago Tribune described it, was designed to show that late-term abortions could be easy and safe. The site of this demonstration was the Philadelphia abortion clinic of Dr. Kermit Gosnell. The media was alerted, and television cameras rolled in. Arriving by bus were 18 pregnant women, half of them teenagers, who would undergo a new abortion technique called the "Super Coil." A Los Angeles Times article in April 1972 --

BOSTON -- A law enforcement official briefed on the investigation says a suspect has been taken into custody in the Boston Marathon bombings. The official spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Wednesday. The official was not authorized to divulge details of the investigation. The official says the suspect is expected in federal court in Boston. Law enforcement agencies had earlier pleaded for the public to come forward with photos, videos or any information that might help them solve the twin bombings that killed three people and wounded more than 170 on Monday.

WASHINGTON — The Boston Marathon bombing marked a watershed moment that counterterrorism officials and specialists have dreaded for years: the use of multiple “improvised explosive devices,’’ or IEDs, to inflict mass casualties on US soil. Islamic militant groups routinely have used makeshift bombs — detonated nearly simultaneously — to kill civilian bystanders as well as military personnel from Iraq and Israel to Russia and Afghanistan. But until Monday’s explosions at the finish line in Copley Square, such street-level detonations targeting sidewalk or marketplace crowds had not occurred in the United States. “The sad thing is that finally someone

Authorities on Tuesday revealed little new information about the terrorist attack at the Boston Marathon, the most high-profile bombing on U.S. soil in more than a decade and a tragedy that presents a new test for President Obama. Obama, like all Americans, is standing by, waiting for answers as to who planted two bombs improvised from pressure cookers at the finish line of the storied race, and why. Three Americans were killed in Monday´s attack and more than 170 others were injured. "Anytime bombs are used to target innocent civilians, it is an act of terror," Obama said,

In the Muslim world there were concerns about who might be blamed; in Britain thoughts turned to their own marathon set to take place Sunday. In its aftermath, the Boston Marathon bombings became a global news story, appearing on front pages in places ranging from Argentina to Turkey. Max Fisher of the Washington Post reported Monday afternoon on the fear that spread throughout the Muslim world that a potential bomber might turn out to be someone who practiced the same faith. He pointed attention to Jenan Moussa, a reporter for Al Aan TV based in Dubai.

This one wasn’t supposed to be close. In the weeks leading up to Venezuela’s April 14 presidential election, polls consistently showed Nicolás Maduro with a double-digit lead over Henrique Capriles, the opposition figure who lost to Hugo Chávez by 11 points (55 percent to 44 percent) back in October. Maduro had served as foreign minister under the late populist demagogue; he had been named vice president — and thus designated as Chávez’s successor — after the October election; and he had formally taken over as interim president following his mentor’s death from cancer on March 5. Maduro also enjoyed

An abiding lesson of the Obama Presidency is that no tax increase is ever enough. So it´s not surprising that the President´s new budget includes an increase in the death tax only three months after the last increase. In January Mr. Obama and Republicans agreed to tax estates at 40% with an exemption of $5 million ($10 million for couples). That was an increase from 35% and a $5 million exemption. Now only weeks later he´s again looking for more, as his budget proposes to raise the rate to 45% and reduce the exemption to $3.5 million.

Allies of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R., Ky.) say a series of attacks and ethical complaints leveled against him are part of a coordinated campaign by left-wing activists, political operatives, and journalists to prevent his reelection in 2014. Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW), a left-wing watchdog group, filed an ethics complaint against McConnell on Thursday, alleging he improperly used Senate resources to support his reelection effort. The charges were based on a recording released earlier in the week by Mother Jones. Allegedly recorded by two members of Democratic Super PAC Progress Kentucky, the tape captured McConnell

L ate Sunday, acting Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro declared victory in the country´s first presidential election since the death of longtime leader Hugo Chavez. The national election commission had just released the results, much closer than the polls had foretold: Maduro, 50.66 percent; Henrique Capriles, 49.07 percent. While Maduro was celebrating, Capriles was calling fraud — and tweeting.(Snip for tweet)That message — "We alert the country and the world of the intent to change the will of the people!" — was followed by a speech to supporters. "I want the truth to be known," Capriles said.

Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden said the next step in gun-control is going to be expanding the definition of those deemed mentally unfit to own a gun. “One of the things that we’re going to be focusing on in Delaware, including pursuing a background — universal background check which we passed in one — in one House, in the House of Representatives in our state legislature two weeks ago. Moving forward to the state Senate,” Biden said Friday on MSNBC. “But the other piece that we’re going to be introducing next week is another part of our package.

A reverse mortgage lender may employ a former GOP senator as corporate pitchman, but there’s no love lost on Capitol Hill. President Barack Obama’s fiscal 2014 Housing and Urban Development budget includes a warning about a nearly $1 billion bailout for the Federal Housing Administration from the Treasury. HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan blamed that deficit squarely on issues with government-insured reverse mortgages, which HUD refers to as Home Equity Conversion Mortgages, or HECMs. That’s an acronym that Susan Collins, R-Maine, conceded she couldn’t really pronounce.

World leaders are moving carefully and anxiously, trying to prevent a disaster in the Korean Peninsula. This increasingly unpredictable round of saber-rattling is far from over, but so far the winner is the North Korean regime and the losers are the brutally oppressed North Korean people, joined by much of the rest of the world. While we watch the drama from far away, it´s worth noting just how far North Korean weapons programs -- not just the weapons themselves -- can reach. U.S. intelligence officials differ on their estimates of the range and accuracy of North Korean missiles,

Yesterday, the most modest of gun control proposals died in the Senate. It would have expanded background checks to people purchasing weapons at gun shows and online sales, enjoyed 90 per cent support among the public and came on the back of the tragedy at Newtown. Yet, despite all that it had going for it, the Toomey-Manchin bill raised just 54 votes--six short of the number necessary for passage. “This is a pretty shameful day for Washington,” said Obama afterwards. It wasn’t exactly a red letter day for him, either. Why did the no-brainer bill fail? Four reasons:

President Obama angrily blamed the defeat Wednesday of his centerpiece gun-control proposal on lies spread by the National Rifle Association, calling it “a pretty shameful day for Washington.” “The gun lobby and its allies willfully lied about the bill,” Mr. Obama said in the White House rose garden about 90 minutes after the vote. “It came down to politics.” As he spoke, Mr. Obama was surrounded by family members of victims of the Newtown, Conn., school shooting. Also with him was former Rep. Gabby Giffords of Arizona, wounded in an assassination attempt.

The Senate delivered a devastating blow to President Obama’s agenda to regulate guns Wednesday by defeating a bipartisan proposal to expand background checks. It failed by a vote of 54 to 46, with 5 Democrats voting against it. Only 4 Republicans supported it. Democratic Sens. Mark Pryor (Ark.), Max Baucus (Mont.), Heidi Heitkamp (N.D.), Mark Begich (Alaska) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (Nev.) voted against it. Reid supported the measure but voted against it to preserve his ability to bring the measure up again. GOP Sens. John McCain (Ariz.), Susan Collins (Maine), Pat Toomey (Pa.) and Mark Kirk

While the media are bearing the brunt of public skepticism over the handling of the Boston bombing, the behavior of government is also eroding public trust. Yesterday´s promised but cancelled news briefing is just one symptom. Andrew McCarthy of PJM notes that "Misinformation rather than enlightenment has been the order of the day in the investigation of Monday´s terrorist bombing of the Boston Marathon," and that part of it is the natural outgrowth of the desire of investigators to keep the details of their investigations secret, so as not to alert suspects.

Mark Kelly, the astronaut husband of former congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, on Thursday upbraided senators who voted against gun legislation by saying they voted “out of fear.” ”If that vote had been a secret ballot, I bet you it would have passed with 80 votes,” Kelly told reporters. He was referencing the compromise authored by Sens. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) and Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) to expand background checks for gun buyers. It failed to advance in the Senate, with a vote Wednesday afternoon of 54 to 46.

After all the controversy – it was too much, and too expensive; it would be marred by protests – this morning’s funeral for Lady Thatcher in London was a splendid and memorable affair, which did her memory, and her country, proud. It was a moving, dignified and pitch-perfect occasion: unmistakably British, and a fitting send-off for the country’s greatest post-war prime minister. Big Ben fell silent – for the first time since the funeral of wartime leader Winston Churchill – and tens of thousands of admirers lined the streets to applaud Lady Thatcher’s coffin

As we now move into the official Political Aftermath period of the Boston bombing — the period that will determine the long-term legislative fallout of the atrocity — the dynamics of privilege will undoubtedly influence the nation’s collective reaction to the attacks. That’s because privilege tends to determine: 1) which groups are — and are not — collectively denigrated or targeted for the unlawful actions of individuals; and 2) how big and politically game-changing the overall reaction ends up being.

Washington — President Barack Obama says the Senate’s opposition to a bill that would have expanded background checks for gun buyers marks a “shameful day” in Washington. He says a minority of senators decided “it wasn’t worth it” to protect the nation’s children. Obama spoke in the Rose Garden shortly after the Senate vote rejecting a bipartisan effort to expand federal background checks to more firearms buyers. (Snip) The president pinned the blame for the measures failure, though five Democrats also opposed the plan. He also said the gun lobby and its allies “willfully lied” about background check bill.

Misinformation rather than enlightenment has been the order of the day in the investigation of Monday’s terrorist bombing of the Boston Marathon. The anxiety stemming from the attack and the stream of inaccurate news about it is further freighted, moreover, by the FBI’s confirmation that two letters addressed to top political officials — President Obama and Senator Richard Wicker (R., MS) — tested positive for ricin, a deadly poison. As noted below, a man identified as Kenneth Curtis of Tupelo, Mississippi, has reportedly been arrested in connection with the mailings. Early this afternoon, massive confusion

WASHINGTON -- A senior Democratic senator who helped write President Barack Obama´s health care law stunned administration officials Wednesday, saying openly he thinks it´s headed for a "train wreck" because of bumbling implementation. "I just see a huge train wreck coming down," Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus, D-Mont., told Obama´s health care chief during a routine budget hearing that suddenly turned tense. Baucus is the first top Democrat to publicly voice fears about the rollout of the new health care law, designed to bring coverage to some 30 million uninsured Americans through a mix
