Lesbian Republicans, Long a Rare Political Breed, Raise Their Profiles

| In 1996, Kathryn Lehman was a soon-to-be married lawyer working for Republicans in the House of Representatives. One of her major accomplishments: helping to write the law that bans federal recognition of same-sex marriages. Sarah Longwell, the secretary of the Log Cabin Republicans, at the group´s Spirit of Lincoln awards dinner in September. Today, Ms. Lehman, 53, is no longer married, or straight. And she is a lobbyist for Freedom to Marry, which is devoted to overturning the very law she helped write, the Defense of Marriage Act. But Ms. Lehman is still a fervent Republican.

I´m libertarian and have no qualm with women like these. Libertarianism is what led me away from democrats. I felt that the government should generally stay out of bedrooms of unrelated consenting adults the same way that it ought to stay out of what I read and say. Over time, and many paychecks, I concluded that the government ought generally to stay out of wealth that I earned or created, and that it ought to stay out of most of my life - with obvious exceptions for things like defense expenditure. That led me to conclude that pretty much everything that democrats advocated was only achieved by government coercion. There are many in the party who like me came here because of libertarian approaches.
These people are independent thinkers and productive members of society. I hope we don´t run them out of the party.

What is rarer than a lesbian Republican?
A Republican working at the New York Times.
Oddly, the Treason Times isn´t concerned one bit....

Here is my solution. Repeal the Defense of Marriage Act, but at the same time, make strap ons illegal. If you don´t want the real thing, baby, then you can´t go the artificial route.

I don´t care and have no need to know. If they think they are married, they have no brains.

So if she goes back to her husband is she still a lesbian? Did she get married in 1996 because way back then all women were supposed to marry and have children? ?!?!

Certainly, they are more American than half of this country´s citizenry - and especially our President. I´m with #1.
I´d break bread, do business or befriend these women any day of the week and twice on Sundays. Married or not.

Tell that to Liz Cheney, or Tammy Bruce, #2.
These women are our secret weapons against the Leftist Nazis who want to destroy our country. We have got to show how much we care about our constitution over people´s sexuality, for God´ sake!
I don´t agree with a lot of behaviors amongst my fellow Republicans, but I can agree we need a True Conservative in the White House when it´s election day. Why draw the line at homosexuality? Heteros haven´t been behaving very well lately (can your spell Petraeus?), either. We still need his vote on our side. If we want to save this fair republic, we better make our tent bigger. Period.

I hope we don´t either, #1. There are aspects of the conservative base that I am uncomfortable with and the intolerance of gays and lesbians is definitely one.

Another example of the infiltration of Communists, Marxists, Liberation Theology Social Engineers, anarchists, Islamists, etc., aka "liberals", into the GOP all of whom are enabled by the likes of wrapped in a flag McCain groping and groveling and slobbering across, and in, the isle.

This article is yet another attempt by the New York Times to use gay people to fight its culture wars. It does this on a periodic basis so as to remind the gay community about those "horrible, mean Republicans who don´t want you to have equal rights". It is pure fake journalism that trades on identity politics to foster an "us versus them" mentality in those who enjoy playing the victim card.

The institution of marriage collapsed when the government got involved less than 150 years ago. Before that all marriages were religious rituals performed only by clergy (and sea captains) in churches. The church defined what marriage was and that was the end of it.l All marriage records were kept in churches along with baptism and death records. Of course, people couldn´t get married unless the clergy approved of the couple. When the gov´t got involved,as is always the case, what was once a spiritual event in human life became just another opportunity to exploit for gov´t revenue.

Yes, thanks for the correction. And Lynn Cheney raised them both. As conservatives we need to welcome our gay community. They worked hard for Obama´s reelection. They manned phones & gave heavily. Why? Two reasons:
The hope of gay marriage federally recognized & legalized. Healthcare for everyone regardless of income.
They will be sadly disappointed on both counts -- and we need to be ready to receive them with solutions that they can live with. Medical care reform of some kind (as in vouchers or a better set of standards for insurance companies & hospitals, and immigration reform), and a compromise of a federally mandated civil union that works just like marriage with employers, property, benefits, etc.

It´s true that the article´s comments on the site are a hoot! I haven´t heard such political correctness blather since the 70´s. Screamingly funny was the poster stating that "The essence of homosexuality is to refuse the conventionality of the Patriarchal power structure..." I was getting flashbacks!

HARTFORD, Conn. -- With time running out on the chance to pass gun control legislation, President Barack Obama on Monday warned Congress not to use delaying tactics against tighter regulations and told families of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting victims that he´s "determined as ever" to honor their children with tougher laws. Obama´s gun control proposals have run into resistance on Capitol Hill, leaving their fate in doubt. Efforts by Senate Democrats to reach compromise with Republicans over expanding required federal background checks have yet to yield an agreement, and conservatives were promising to try

North Korea’s young leader Kim Jong-un is waiting for United States President Barack Obama to make a phone call to Pyongyang to discuss easing tensions on the Korean peninsula, according to Russia’s news agency Itar-Tass. The report cited United Kingdom diplomats, saying Pyongyang was demanding the U.S. president personally call Kim Jong-un as one of the conditions to relieve the current conflict at hand. Itar-Tass also quoted the U.K.’s Sky News as saying North Korea currently has eight nuclear warheads.

The murder trial of abortionist Kermit Gosnell largely is being ignored by the mainstream media, even in the face of grisly testimony, such as what we heard yesterday. Life News reports: ...a former employee described how she heard a baby scream during a live-birth abortion. Abortion clinic employee Sherry West described an incident which "really freaked (her) out" and related to the jury how she heard a child who was born alive following an abortion scream.

Annette Funicello, the dark-haired darling of TV´s “The Mickey Mouse Club” in the 1950s who further cemented her status as a pop-culture icon in the ´60s by teaming with Frankie Avalon in a popular series of “beach” movies, died Monday. She was 70. Funicello, who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1987 and became a spokeswoman for treatment of the chronic, often-debilitating disease of the central nervous system, died at Mercy Southwest Hospital in Bakersfield, Walt Disney Co. spokesman Howard Green said. Beginning a week of high pressure on gun control, the White House on Monday accused some Republican senators of cowardice for planning to filibuster gun legislation without allowing the full Senate to vote on President Obama’s initiatives. “If they oppose this legislation, have the courage to say so on the floor and vote no,” said White House press secretary Jay Carney. “Don’t block it. Don’t hide behind a procedural action to prevent a vote. That’s the wrong thing to do, and that’s how the president clearly feels.”

Chelsea Clinton has raised her profile in the last few days, which sparked the inevitable question about the former first daughter´s future: Will she ever be like Mom and Dad and run for office? Clinton, 33, essentially said "maybe" in an interview that aired Monday on NBC´s Today show. "Right now I´m grateful to live in a city, a state and a country where I strongly support my mayor, my governor, my president and my senators and my representative," said Clinton, whose father, Bill, was president from 1993-2001 and her mother, Hillary

More than 700 Special Operations veterans are urging members of Congress to back a select committee to investigate last year’s Benghazi terrorist attack, according to a letter first obtained by Fox News. The letter from the group, “Special Operations Speaks,” supports the appointment of a special committee tasked with the single mission of investigating the attack that left Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans dead, and shut down the CIA operation in an annex of the Benghazi consulate, in the Sept. 11, 2012 attack. “Congress must show some leadership and provide answers to the public

A nonprofit organization that works with the families, Sandy Hook Promise, said that after Obama´s speech on gun control in Hartford, he is flying with relatives of seven children and one staffer killed during December´s massacre at the school. There was growing buzz over the weekend that a bipartisan agreement on gun control — a deal that would expand background checks — could hit the floor as early as this week. However, any deal could be derailed by the looming threat of a Republican filibuster involving Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. With Cruz standing proudly in the way of any gun legislation, Democrats are trying to make him pay a political price — and even a couple of high-profile Republicans are questioning his tactics.

Amid all of the very real threats of war and stuff from North Korea, you´d think American intelligence officers want as much video footage of the enemy as possible. Well, here is one video featuring North Korean exercises and Kim Jong-Un holding a gun, and we´ll say this: they certainly get points for presentation. Remember the clap-happy report from Dennis Rodman´s diplomatic basketball vacation? This video comes courtesy of the same Youtube channel that gave us that Rodman video. The case of a same-sex Connecticut couple accused of repeatedly raping and abusing two of their nine adopted boys is headed for trial. Married couple George Harasz and Douglas Wirth of Glastonbury were supposed to be sentenced Friday in Hartford Superior Court under a plea deal, but instead withdrew from their agreement with prosecutors. The men had already pleaded no contest in January to one felony count each of risk of injury to a minor — a reduction from even more serious charges related to sexual assault....
