It was where he and his parents had grown up. But when Parker first tried to bid on a house in a new development in Mitchellville, a small farming community that was sprouting ranch and split-level homes on old plantation lands, the real-estate agent demurred, claiming there were other buyers. They exchanged the opportunity for wealth for a cheesy little handout. Once again the black community has been victimized by one of their own which I guess is ok with them. Just as long as it wasn´t done by whitey.

Afraid I did not finish the article - slaves after the civil war were allowed ships to go back to Africa or strike out west. None of them wanted to leave the USA. I don´t like slavery and it was a bad thing, but they were from Africa and it was common for blacks to sell other black natives. Would they go back to Africa now? I doubt it seriously.

The article unintentionally points out that the government under Bubba´s reign opened the door to underqualified applicants being approved for mortgages, which then led to the housing collapse.

Hey, look at the bright side the got their Black President regardless of the disastrous performance. I´m kind of glad to see them joining the white middle class even if at a time when we are spiraling down to dictatorship and poverty.
Besides the Old Democrat Party of segregation and slavery what other party elects politicians who spew racial Revenge. Try National Socialist Workers Party (NAZI). The other "Get even Party"

The writer had to dig way back to the history of this county, the emancipation of slaves, etc., in a vain attempt to make this the story of a black county. The story is the same in counties of varied ethnicities - including all the myriad kinds of white - across the country.
Obama led riots in banks to force them to loan to everyone who wanted a house. Bubba Clinton had his "housing for everyone" (whether they can afford it or not) program.
The housing market decline was a solid Dem proposition that they alone engineered and should own.

Nice article, but Ms. Potts should trade her race colored glasses for a wide angle lens.
Then she would begin to notice that 0bama´s economic policies have been disastrous for ALL Americans, not just the black ones. I have no doubt to the truth of what she has written, but it is also true that we are ALL in this sinking boat together.
"The Collapse of American Wealth" would be a less sensational, but more accurate title for the complete version of this story.

A middle class designation in a supposed classless nation that forces black Americans to over spend waste their money and moan they are abused because they didn´t have deep family roots to give them enough riches is one heck of a poor me fairy tale. Get the story right for a change. 80% of the other immigrants arriving in American had no more worldly goods than the slaves . In fact many were indentured and some arrived against their will too sold to those indentures by the British from debtors prisons . At least the slaves had a place to drop for awhile and food of sorts. The present economy is leaving all races and ethnic inhabitants in the same situations.

I read the article. The author mentions predatory lending, but doesn´t mention the state of the black family. Does the black population of Prince George´s county align with the rest of black America? 70% of black kids are growing up fatherless. Single parenthood is a greater indicator of poverty. Interesting that the author goes back to slave ships, but doesn´t work current events in.

Most of so-called black wealth is spent on ju-ray, cars and rims and baby mamas.....houses are down the list. Conservative blacks are no different than the vast majority of us!! Unfortunately their voices, if they have any voice in the black community, are drowned out by the brothas and sustas who are "takers" and leeches on society. Sadly, it isn´t going to change anytime soon...them "free phones be nice".

after reading the article thru to the end, I concluded that the author is short-sighted. The housing bubble happened to everyone. everywhere. If you were a first time buyer, you likely purchased too much house with a minimal down. 3-10% was common. If you ´´bought up´´ you were told by both lenders and realtors that in a year or two you would gain so much equity in increased value that you could afford the higher priced home. If you neither bought nor sold, you probably took out a couple or 4 equity loans based on the inflated bubble value of your home. In any case, whether you were black in Maryland, white in Minnesota or Hispanic in Florida - it didn´t matter. Brokers and lenders were pursuing every color/race/economic cohort.
And now, there´s even more equality. Upside down is upside down, race is irrelevant...

These days, a "predatory lender" seems to be one that expects to be paid back in accordance with the terms of the note and security documents that the borrower signs. If you can´t afford it, don´t buy it. If you don´t understand what you´re signing, don´t sign. Nobody owes you anything.
I´ll refrain from posting further on what I´m thinking.

Jefferson County, Colo. - A judge ruled on Friday that there is enough evidence for a teen to stand trial for murder and attempted abduction about an hour after prosecutors played a 911 tape where Austin Sigg admitted to killing 10-year-old Jessica Ridgeway and to trying to kidnap a female jogger. The five-minute recording played during a Friday preliminary hearing began with the teen´s mother, Mindy Sigg, calling 911 on the night of Oct. 23, 2012. "I need you to come to my house, my son wants to turn himself in for Jessica Ridgeway's murder," the mother tells a dispatcher.

Only four doctors in the U.S. offer third-trimester abortions, knowing they risk their own lives every day to carry out such controversial procedures. These doctors are the subject of a documentary screened at the Sundance film festival last weekend, forty years after the legalization of abortion in the U.S. and four years after Dr Tiller. Physician George Tiller was a prominent practitioner of late-term abortions shot dead by an extremist in 2009. The documentary After Tiller is named for him and focuses on the few remaining doctors who perform abortions in the third trimester of a pregnancy. The Supreme Court granted states the right to limit abortions in the final three months of a pregnancy.

Is the Washington National Cathedral the spiritual center of the nation? In the mind of the liberal Episcopal cathedral’s new dean, it should be. Such an assertion would surprise many of America’s churchgoers, the vast majority of whom are not even Oldline Protestants, let alone Episcopalians. But since assuming leadership of the Cathedral in October, Dean Gary R. Hall has frequently spoken of the church’s role as being “at the center” of American public life.

When it comes to becoming a physician, the academic rigors, years of schooling, and personal sacrifice common to the effort are well-known. This process is a sort of rite of passage, an intellectual marathon that only the best and brightest can complete. As such, medical schools should select candidates best-suited to excel throughout school and cultivate the skills that will allow them to practice in the best health care system in the world. The process by which these candidates are selected, however, may come as a shock.

In a series of remarkably candid comments, Prince Charles hinted that he feared his legacy as king would be cut short. During a visit to Dumfries House, the stately home in East Ayrshire which the Prince helped save for the nation, he joked about his reputation for pursuing projects with notorious vigour but made a poignant reference to his mortality. He said: “Impatient? Me? What a thing to suggest! Yes of course I am.” He added: “I’ll run out of time soon. I shall have snuffed it if I’m not careful.”

HARTFORD, Conn. -- With time running out on the chance to pass gun control legislation, President Barack Obama on Monday warned Congress not to use delaying tactics against tighter regulations and told families of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting victims that he´s "determined as ever" to honor their children with tougher laws. Obama´s gun control proposals have run into resistance on Capitol Hill, leaving their fate in doubt. Beginning a week of high pressure on gun control, the White House on Monday accused some Republican senators of cowardice for planning to filibuster gun legislation without allowing the full Senate to vote on President Obama’s initiatives. “If they oppose this legislation, have the courage to say so on the floor and vote no,” said White House press secretary Jay Carney. “Don’t block it. Don’t hide behind a procedural action to prevent a vote. That’s the wrong thing to do, and that’s how the president clearly feels.”

However, any deal could be derailed by the looming threat of a Republican filibuster involving Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. More than six months since Ambassador Christopher Stevens was assassinated by terrorists in Benghazi, the Obama administration is still trying to keep a lid on information about the attack. Congress and the American people need to know what happened the night of Sept. 11, 2012. Who did the killing and what was their motive? Why wasn´t help sent? And why did the administration lie about who was responsible? Members of Congress have asked hundreds of questions at hearings conducted by several investigative committees, but many of the most significant have been left unanswered. Information detailing what happened before, during and Headline corrected.
