Stopping veteran Dem
retirements is top priority
for Reid, Schumer

The Hill [Washington DC], by Alexander Bolton

Original Article

Posted By:JoniTx, 11/25/2012 12:53:16 PM

One of the highest immediate political priorities for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and Senate Democratic political guru Charles Schumer (N.Y.) is to persuade veteran colleagues not to retire in 2014. Democratic sources identify four senators as most likely to retire: Sens. Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va.), Tim Johnson (D-S.D.), Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.) and Tom Harkin (D-Iowa).Another possible veteran retirement is Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Carl Levin (D-Mich.), who has yet to announce his decision. But Democratic aides expect him to run again. Democrats would have a tough time defending their seats

John D. Rockefeller IV, Dunce, WV, is a trustfund tittybaby twice over (his wife is Chuck Percy´s daughter) and Rockefeller is dumber than a rock. Pun intended. And in a state where coal is king, Rockefeller became President Zero´s court jester.
Tim Johnson belongs in an assisted living facility - it is painful to watch him preside over a senate committee hearing, as he reads everything prepared by his staff, in a halting 2nd grader kind of reading ability at PTA open house. Former congresswoman Giffords has a brain more intact than Tim Johnson´s brain.
Lautenberg is so far over the hill (and remember how he reentered the senate on a wave of lawbreaking, which the federal courts shamelessly ignored) that his shelf life was yesterday.
If the republicans would learn how to run senate primary campaigns, and stop killing each other, we wouldn´t have the Kirsten Gillibrand baby killing Catholic in office, nor another baby killing Catholic, Barbara Mikulski, who seems to be heading towards munchkin land.
I could go on, but enough is enough.

Here in West Va, just about everybody expects Rockefeller to retire. University of West Va´s athletic director Oliver Luck is rumored to be quite interested in the job. He has a (D) after his name, which means if he wins the primary he is just about a shoo in for the job since ´Rats outnumber the GOP 2-1 in this state. Get ready for Joe, sorry, HONEST JOE Manchin and Luck as Senators for life in this state. Football and Democrats go together too well here, sorry to say.

Just find a precinct - any precinct and stuff the ballot box until you win. The dems have always known this - they were just as never as brazen as they are now. Do you think that Holder´s Justice Dept. is going to pursue any allegation of dem cheating?

#11, #12: We already have term limits in hand, and can impost them every 2 years.

Further, why does anyone think a career pol will be stopped by being term-limited out of any particular office? If present Office A allows only one term, they just run for another office. They know that thee offices they run for have term limits. Defeat at the polls is the only term limit that really matters. Sorry that it´s not the panacea some pursue -- which is really no answer at all.

Gay weddings halted in Michigan

Los Angeles Times, by Paresh Dave    Original Article

Same-sex weddings in Michigan were abruptly halted Saturday when a federal appeals court put on hold a lower court ruling that declared the state´s ban on gay marriages unconstitutional. The appellate court order came Saturday afternoon, after Michigan officials had issued at least 322 marriage licenses to gays and lesbians who jumped at the chance to be among the first same-sex couples in the state to wed. County clerks in four of Michigan’s 83 counties called in staff on a weekend to mark the short-lived (for now) historic shift in Michigan. The four counties include about a fifth of Michigan’s

A feminist studies professor at a California state university is facing criminal charges after a videotaped run-in with a teenage pro-life demonstrator in which she snatched an anti-abortion sign and appeared to get physical with the girl. University of California at Santa Barbara Associate Professor Mireille Miller-Young was charged with one misdemeanor count each of theft, battery and vandalism in the March 4 incident, Santa Barbara County District Attorney Joyce Dudley announced Friday. The charges came days after 16-year-old Thrin Short and her parents met with prosecutors. Thrin told authorities what she told FoxNews.com earlier this month: She, her older

Readers of today’s edition of the The International New York Times in Pakistan might be forgiven for thinking there was a severe mix up at the printing press, finding a glaring blank space on the cover. It was actually a snipping of a story from the New York Times Magazine titled “What Pakistan knew about Bin Laden.” In the piece, Carlotta Gall, who has reported from Afghanistan since around 2001, proposes that the Pakistani government not only knew about Osama bin Laden‘s whereabouts for years, but had a desk assigned to handle him: The Pakistani government, under President Pervez Musharraf

Here’s something geopolitically interesting: both China and India support Russia´s takeover of Crimea. Yes, the two largest nations by population, both of them well-developed nuclear powers, ranking second and tenth in overall economic output—and growing fast—support Russia’s claim that it can conquer foreign territory by force. Welcome to the New World Order of 2014. In no sense, then, can the United States declare that the planet is united against what the Russians have done to Ukraine. This lack of unity calls into question not only the US strategy against Russia but also our strategy against other threats. These other threats

Even though they were taken in color, the images of Dachau concentration camp, where tens of thousands were imprisoned and killed by the Nazis, appear bleak and foreboding. What is even more chilling than the sight of drainage ditches to catch the blood of victims, or the images of gas chambers, is that the man behind the camera in 1950 was Hugo Jaeger - one of Hitler´s personal photographers. The events that unfolded in Dachau continue to haunt the world 81 years after it first opened its gates on March 22, 1933. But the series of images taken by Jaeger,

Critics of Rep. Paul Ryan’s remarks about cultural factors in the persistence of poverty are simultaneously shrill and boring. Their predictable minuet of synthetic indignation demonstrates how little liberals have learned about poverty or changed their rhetorical repertoire in the last 49 years. Ryan spoke of a “tailspin of culture, in our inner cities in particular, of men not working and just generations of men not even thinking about working or learning the value and the culture of work,” adding: “There’s a real culture problem here.” This brought down upon Ryan the usual acid rain of accusations — racism, blaming

President Obama delivered his weekly address this morning, following up on the themes of last week´s: namely, pressuring Congress to raise the minimum wage. This week, however, the president insisted that the minimum wage was a women´s rights issue, because "women hold most lower-wage jobs in America." The president began his statements by repeating one of the more prominent talking points of the Obama administration since this year´s State of the Union address: "A woman deserves to earn equal pay for equal work." The president insisted that it was necessary for Congress to "act on these priorities" for women, but

The United States is puzzling over how to block cruise missiles that theoretically could be launched from the Gulf of Mexico, even after throwing some of its most advanced technologies at the problem. Russia and Iran have been cited as possible threats that might, at some point, lurk in the waters just off U.S. shores. A 2013 military exercise pitted systems such as Patriot interceptors, Aegis warships and combat aircraft against potential cruise-missile or short-range ballistic missiles fired from the Gulf. But the drill highlighted a particular vulnerability to cruise missiles lobbed from that region, U.S. Northern Command head Gen.

To do that effectively, one would actually have to maintain something of a consistent level of attention to the moving pieces that directly influence how future events will unfold. None other than the truly sycophantic thinks for a second that President Obama cares a whit for anything that does not involve fundamentally altering the social composition of this country. Or golf. The suspensions — and disparities — begin at the earliest grades. Black children represent about 18 percent of children in preschool programs in schools, but they make up almost half of the preschoolers who are suspended more than once, the report said. Six percent of the nation´s districts with preschools reported suspending at
