McCain says he´s open to
changing his mind on Susan Rice

Sen. John McCain, who has led the effort to discredit Susan Rice, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, said Sunday he was willing to listen to Rice´s testimony if she´s nominated to become the next secretary of state. McCain has criticized Rice for her statements immediately following the September attacks at the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, which Rice initially described as stemming from protests against an anti-Islam video. Later her remarks came under scrutiny as further information suggested the attack was a premeditated assault. McCain, R-Arizona, has fronted the criticism of Rice

Good grief, people! McCain is smarter than you give him credit for. He, and a bunch of other congresscritters would love to listen to Rice and then aske her some questions, especially under oath.

I suspect that McCain, Grahm and others have documents that are ready to expose any lies she may try to tell- and Hillary too!.

I know it is fun for some to hate McCain and anyone else who makes reasonable statements, but get a grip!

They are already claiming that her detractors are racists, and they know that is the sure way to always get the wimpy Republicans to back down. Just watch what happens if Obama nominates Rice for Secretary of State.

If Sen. McCain were so smart, he would not so stupidly say that he is open to changing his mind on Susan Rice. He would instead announce something like this: "I would love to listen to Rice and then ask her some questions, especially under oath, as I have documents that will expose any lies she may try to tell- and Hillary too!" With thanks to Poster #7.

I seriously doubt there is any "strategic planning" going on here by the round heels. I´m betting they are just champing at the bit to give the "taupe dope" another win to prove they are not racists. Invitations are in the mail for the next WH dinner - RSVP.

McCain is now like a used dryer sheet. You can keep throwing it in but it soon loses its effectiveness. I fear that like the old W.VA Byrd....he´ll refuse to go away and we´ll be blessed with his unwanted opinions for decades.

If the intent is to hear testimony and ask questions while she´s under oath, then more power to McCain. My problem, and I suspect the problem with many others, is that McCain has sided with his "good friends across the aisle" so many times on so many different issues it´s almost impossible to give him the benefit of the doubt. Any time he inserts himself into an issue I expect the worst and faintly hope for the best.

If John McCain had documents proving that Susan Rice had previously lied AND enough eloquence and intelligence to use those documents effectively enough so that Ms. Rice would walk out of his Senate hearings either disgraced or facing perjury charges for lying under oath, it would make sense for John McCain to want Obama to nominate Susan Rice for Secretary of State so that he could get at her in a public forum. But he DOESN´T.

So it makes no sense for John McCain to want Susan Rice to be nominated.

This comes as no surprise. McCain has seldom failed to disappoint me. It has long been hard to think of him as presidential material. I am sorry that he was shot down and spent years in POW camps, but it is hard to make a logical connection between that and fitness for public office. Bad luck or poor flying and SAM-avoidance skills caused the shoot down and capture, for the aftermath and suffering of which all decent Americans should commiserate. He did his duty and paid mightily for it. Unfortunately, however, none of that means he will make a good Senator or president. I am unfamiliar in detail with his record, but every time he opens his mouth in public he seems to harm rather than help the Republican cause. He has always seemed something of a doofus to me. The voters of his district should give him a gold watch, a hearty round of applause, and retire him from public life. With friends like him, Republicans do not need enemies.

Catholic League president Bill Donohue is blasting beer companies that pulled their support for the St. Patrick´s Day parades this year. Donohue Mondaycalled for Catholics to boycott the companies behind Guinness, Heineken and Sam Adams for dropping their sponsorship of the parades in New York City and Boston over the refusal of organizers to allow gays and lesbians from marching under a banner. In an email, Donohue blamed the "bullying" against the parade on its "Catholic element." "I have had my last Guinness and Sam Adams. Heineken was always slop, so there is no sacrifice there," Donohue wrote. "I urge

President Obama on Monday slapped Russia with the kinds of economic sanctions not seen since the Cold War, but the administration’s supposed hard line was met with mockery and a “collective shrug” in Moscow, Kiev and Washington. One day after Crimeans voted overwhelmingly to secede from Ukraine and join Russia, the White House and its partners in the European Union responded by targeting high-ranking officials in Moscow along with pro-Russian figures responsible for the unrest in Ukraine. The move adds even more tension to a dramatic standoff between Russia and the West, but early signs suggest the latest round of

First lady Michelle Obama "has been looking for an opportunity to go to China," a White House official said on Monday. And she considers it a "real treat" to take her daughters and her mother with her -- a trip she´s making at considerable expense to taxpayers, although the White House refused to give a dollar figure. "You know, the first lady has talked about the importance of young people here in the United States learning about other cultures. She believes that about her own children, and has seen this as a really unique opportunity to share a very different

White House executive pastry chef Bill Yosses is resigning after First Lady Michelle Obama fundamentally changed his job duties to focus on healthier food. Yosses is leaving the White House in June to work on a new project focusing on “food literacy” and The New York Times says Michelle is “partly to blame.” The openly gay chef was hired by Laura Bush in 2007 to make his trademark cookie plates and sugar sculptures. Mrs. Obama took over in 2009 and ordered Yosses to make healthier plates in smaller portions. (Snip) “I don’t want to demonize cream, butter, sugar and eggs,”

Hillary Clinton may well be the most "known" politician in the world. She and her husband, former President Bill Clinton, have been on the national stage for more than two decades -- traveling from Arkansas to the White House to the Senate to the 2008 campaign trail and finally to the State Department. During that time, every look and utterance from Hillary has been examined, then examined again, then analyzed, then overanalyzed. That´s why this series of photos -- shot by LIFE magazine in 1969 as part of a feature on outstanding college students -- is so fascinating. It captures

Error 404: U.S. officials plan to relinquish federal control over the administration of the Internet to something called the "global Internet community," which is full of tyrants to whom the free flow of information is a threat. In the wake of the NSA surveillance scandal, some might not be inclined to defend federal involvement in anything related to the flow of information between individuals. But the decision announced Friday by the Commerce Department to give up next year its oversight of Icann, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, to the "global Internet community" is a bad idea. “I think we’re in for a tsunami-type election in 2014,” Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus told the audience at Tuesday morning’s Christian Science Monitor breakfast in Washington, D.C. Looking ahead to this fall’s midterm elections, Priebus boldly predicted big gains for the GOP, especially in the Senate. ”My belief is, it’s going to be a very big win, especially at the U.S. Senate level, and we may add some seats in congressional races,” Priebus predicted. “But I need to and we need to at the RNC make sure that we can capture the positives and the benefits we’ve been

WASHINGTON—In what was described as a major ramping up of sanctions, Secretary of State John Kerry announced on Tuesday that the United States had frozen Russian President Vladimir Putin’s Netflix account, effective immediately. “Unless and until Mr. Putin calls off the annexation of Crimea, no more ‘House of Cards’ or ‘Orange Is the New Black’ for him,” Mr. Kerry said. “The United States will not stand by and reward the annexation of another sovereign nation with a policy of streaming as usual.” While all of the sanctions Mr. Kerry announced on Tuesday were Netflix-related, he warned Mr. Putin that
