Intolerant Liberals at
Macalester College

American Thinker, by Thomas Lifson

As Alexis De Tocqueville demonstrated convincingly, sometimes a foreigner can visit these shores and see clearly aspects of our society that remain unquestioned, unexamined, and unnoticed by Americans. At Macalester College, an elite and highly selective liberal arts college (dubbed one of the "25 new elite ´Ivies´´´ according to Newsweek) in St. Paul, a junior division example of this phenomenon has appeared in the form of Bassem El-Remesh, a foreign student who shared with his fellow students his view of the state of discourse at that very liberal college

~~Out of curiosity, I went around campus searching for Republicans. I found two! One of them told me how annoying it is to be here and regretted that he came. Of course he is free to speak up, but there is a ratio of one to 100 of Republicans to Democrats. Put simply, Republicans don´t dare to speak up.~~

Excellent read!

It takes about five or six years to recover from a college education. Most young people would be better off learning a trade.

If you want to witness how intelligent people could march mindlessly in lock-step in an ideology as did the Germans under Hitler, visit a college campus. (In full disclosure, I am guilty of having several degrees from them.)

When Hubert Horatio Humphrey left office, he went to work for macalester college, if my memory serves me.
Hubert was the straw up LBJs butt, pushing for the creation of those poverty programs...HHH also said, during the 1968 campaign, that every American is entitled to a MEANINGFUL job. Think about that one, you people!
Every job has elements of boredom, overly detailed components, and wasted time. HHH didn´t understand that, because he was a career politician.
HHH also evaded the draft in WWII, because he had an inguinal hernia, easily repaired, even back then. But he didn´t have it fixed, and remained 4-F, at a time when lots of famous and not so famous Americans were volunteering for military service.
Jimmy Stewart, at the time of WWII was too skinny, flunked his draft physical, told the physician to wait for a couple of hours, ate a couple of big meals, and just passed, attaining minimum weight.
Clark Gable served in the Army Air Corps, as a gunner, Ted Williams as a fighter pilot, who again served during the korean war, same job.
Bob Feller, Cleveland Indians, enlisted in the U.S. Navy, as a gunner, and was a hero. Gerald Ford was an authentic hero in the U.S. Navy, saving his crewmates´ lives in combat. (And never talked about it, unlike the stolen valor guy, Jon Cary.)
I could name many more, but I sort of got off the subject. Macalester chose a draft evader to teach for them. Too bad.

My daughter was accepted to Macalester in ´01. We told her then that it was too liberal of a college and we didn´t want to spend our money there. That was fine with her. A better value would be the University of St. Thomas, just down the street.

To me the most consistent characterization of academics (and liberals in general) is that they are perpetual adolescents. Perpetually funded by the Bank of Mom & Dad (including the State Bank of All Mom & Dads). Given lifetime tenure to freeload and mouth off. No rules to live by (but not allowing anyone around them to break their own non-rule rules). And utterly contemptuous of Mom & Dad and all the Mom & Dads who continue to fund them. Etc.

Want to know how to break the stranglehold they have on our schools and our culture? End tenure. Close the Bank of Mom & Dad and withhold payment to the State Bank of All Moms & Dads.

A further search for this young man led to his website. He does not seem like your average college student. But right now he believes the Israelis are the aggressors in Gaza and that those who are in Gaza are all victims. Not much different than the other liberals at Macalester, I´ll wager. The April Fool’s Day show put on in the Rose Garden yesterday was no triumph, but rather an act of desperation, touting “enrollment” numbers generated without any transparency, intended to arrest the downward spiral of Obamacare and the Democratic Party’s electoral prospects. Obama himself gave away the game unintentionally, in what poker players call a “tell” that consisted of two parts. The first part of the tell was the obvious outright lie told by the president in a “poor me” moment of self-pity. From the official transcript: And we didn’t make a hard sell. The standard MSM trope is that the GOP is riven by conflict, but even they are beginning to notice Democrats turning against one another. There is going to be hell to pay for the Democrats in November. Having rammed through a disastrous transformation of health care, a lot of congressional Democrats and many more down the ticket suspect that voters will vent their anger at the party that foisted the travesty on us. Conservative critics of government are “freaks,” are “in for a pretty rough ride,” and “will need their Kevlar,” i.e., bullet-proof vests. These statements didn’t come from the Obama administration or some radical leftwing organization. They are Facebook posts of a Republican elected official in Virginia’s Fauquier County. Fauquier drew national attention in 2012 for charging farmer Martha Boneta with violating the law by having a birthday party for eight little girls without a permit and zoning site plan. The highly charged posts of county supervisor Holder Trumbo came shortly after two recent events, and are emblematic of the civil war taking place within

While alarm bells are loudly ringing over the Common Core, a much quieter, yet potentially devastating, coup is underway, enabling the progressives to subvert secondary education. In classic leftist fashion, the vehicle chosen to propagandize our youth into seeing America as a fundamentally racist, unworthy, and unfair society in need of “fundamental transformation” revolves around a wealthy non-profit organization that enjoys a near-monopoly on a prestige-generating market niche. The Heartland Institute alerts us to what’s going on, as the College Board Advanced Placement Examination is being turned into a vehicle to denigrate American History.
