There´s some elements of the Catholic Church doing it´s job in this country but the Vatican has been taken over by political correctness.Bunch of new inductees into the college of cardinals from around the world yesterday with only one American and no Europeans.I´m not saying this is a big deal but they aren´t dealing with doctrine.Catholics that voted for Obama were voting for abortion pills by proxy.There´s no where on the planet now to look for moral authority.

one has to wonder as to just why obama is trying to break the back of the Catholic Church..could it be because the Church won during the Crusades...Is it because the Chruch has to be broken in order for obama to control this country more...

Way too many "Christians" use Christianity as an insurance policy. They have no interest in Christian values or principles, they just want to keep the "heaven or hell" base covered if and when they die. Otherwise, they are no different than the run-of-the-mill secularist.

Jesus said he didn´t come to bring peace but a sword, as sword that would divide families and a nation and we are witnessing it. Jesus doesn´t want division but He knew that His teachings would force people to make a choice; either they want to be like God but independent of God (like Satan), or be like God and dependent on God. Either ignore God and living the way they want without accountability to a higher power or live for God living and recognized their dependence on God and adopting His values.
Both groups living in same world will cause conflict and division. God allows us to have a free will and allows us to choose which will be our Lord; God or the world.

America has changed... but people haven´t.

In the lead up to this election I was in church early for the mass. I listened to people claiming they were voting for obama. These people were VERY well off, elderly and sick and claimed they wouldn´t vote for Romney because he was for the rich. The priest gave a sermon that instructed the people to vote for the preservation of life....and he wasn´t just talking about anti-abortion, in my state they were voting on assisted suicide. After decades of indoctrination by priests who, more or less, said do what feels good, here in MA, the people go to mass but do not listen to what THESE priests are saying now. Here, in MA, this is a broken, probably dying church. I hope that is not the case elsewhere.

I agree with all of the above posters. One of the local Catholic churches brought in an African (don´t know which nation he hails from as this is not my home parish)assistant pastor. However, when I go to that church, as I do on occasion, his sermons are inevitably about "social justice" and the hymns he chooses are always about "the cry of the poor."
Blessedly, his accent is so heavy that very few no what he is saying.

America is repeating what Old Testament Israel did many times. Because mankind has a free will, God allows mankind (and the nation) to destroy itself from within.
The principle is this: when a nation turns from God and pursues worldly wealth, pleasure and comfort, the nation becomes weak. When they become weak, they are overtaken by their enemy. When they are overtaken by their enemy, the enemy takes away that which made them weak. When they have nothing left to make them weak, they look up to God for forgiveness and restoration. When they seek forgiveness and restoration, God liberates them.
And the cycle starts over again...

The Church needs to use the power of excommunication - I´d start with all politicians who voted for Obamacare. Let the unbelievers leave (including the priests).

There are roots of freedom in religion. #3 has good reflections on this topic. Another point I would make is that we may think we are free serving no God but in reality we either serve the real God or some false God or idol. The demons and false God´s enslave us. It is easy to slip into their servitude and very difficult to leave it. The true God invites us to obey Him and his yoke is easy. We can serve him and He makes us free. Like the prodigal son we can leave our fathers house with an inheritance any time we want. We must actively rededicate ourselves every day to His service or we will slip into idolatry and slavery. Obedience to God alone makes us free. This spiritual fact has political implications which are playing out today!

I agree with #8 and #9. Excommunication is a powerful tool. Why tolerate those termites that eat away from within the structure of the Church? Get rid of them! Start with Pelosi. From there on, you can make your own list.

Sour note about Notre Dame University. (CINO) It has been a big supporter of Obama. They will joyfully comply with abortion mandate.

The Catholic Church simply advised to "vote your conscience".

My view is most Catholics don´t believe they can affect the abortion issue as it´s "between the woman and her God", but can do something about the poor which Jesus said to do, and the Democrats push hard as caring about.

Republicans need to actually start saying they want to help the poor, want clean air and clean water, etc...
If people don´t hear it they´ll believe what the Dems say.

The American Catholic Church is reaping what it has sown for many years. While Catholics followed the star to Camelot for years, they implicitly supported abortion and contraception, i.e. sex without purpose except pleasure. That genie is not returning to the bottle, nor will the concept of government safety nets, which translates into giveaways and many unfulfilled lives. The bishops have been complicit in all this, and now they squawk because it is their medical services business line being assaulted by Obamacare itself, not simply the contraception/abortion insurance, after already greatly weakened by their failure to remove predatory homosexual priests and the resultant lawsuit judgements. The church left me years ago, and I´m not waiting around for it, either.

ever since FDR our Catholic leaders have pushed the vote for democrats because they equate aiding the poor with taxing the "rich" the definetion is very loose so its the other guy getting taxed. the democrats are robin hood. This just changed some what in this last election. Abortion , same sex marriage and contrseption are the reason for the change in the churches promoting Obama. Too little and way too late.

Everybody wants clean air, clean water etc #14 but the question should be put to the population do you want the air coming out of the smokestack on a coal fired power station to be cleaner than the air in Yosmite park. This is the standard issued by the Obama admin environmentalists to shut down coal fired electricity or make it so expensive that industry is shut down and many comforts in our homes must be abandoned. The choice is super high standards of clean air and water which drive everyone back to a primitive way of life. Is that what people really want. I think if this choice is outlined most people will choose reasonable attainable standards that do not disrupt our way of life completely. Timid conservatives never point out these things so they always loose the debate!
