As we get closer to the day when Obamacare moves from threat to reality, it seems probable that the resulting catastrophe for tens of thousands of businesses, as well as the massive increase in premiums for many families, will propel Republicans to majority status in 2014. How many businesses will be forced to close shop? How many will cut back on the number of employees to stay in business? How many will refuse to expand, unable to handle the increased costs? How many jobs will Obamacare cost? Michael Tanner, senior fellow at the Cato Institute,
Some of those shrilling for universal heath care with a substantial income from either one of two contributing were actually believing they would get FREE heath care and be able to eliminate health care from their personal budget. Some of these bragged about their college degrees. Like Gen. Honoree said, "Stuck on Stupid".
If you are already feeding at the trough why would you care if 800,000 jobs are lost? One of the stupid women picketing Hostess said she was glad they were going out of business, you can´t talk to someone that ignorant & get anything accomplished.
Until the hyperinflation hits & a trailer load of Obama money won´t buy a nail wrap or pack of cigarettes, you´re not going to get the masses to pay attention. And the masses are at "tipping" point of 50%....!! Scary.... & very very sad!!
#6 I Do not think so. A dumbed down electorate that easily responded to slick liberal campaign marketing, during a disastorous presidency, will still not notice the devastation. Even if they did, the Dems will successfully blame republicans.
#5, I respect president george w. bush alot, and believe the historians, a few decades out, will rate him highly. But he did spend too much money, with no child left behind, and with rx coverage in medicare. both of those were passed with the best of intentions. Neither should have been passed in the form each took. But 9/11/01 put incredible burdens on the president, who had to put protecting Americans at the top of his ´to do´ list. And in the process of protecting us, spending went kind of crazy. But he protected us.
The more ObamaCare fails, the more Obama and Dems will blame the health care insurers, physicians and employers who provide coverage for their employees. Assuming that Obama does not ignore Constitution, he will have Michelle run in order to complete his illusionary plan to provide every American coverage, "We can´t let the wealthy get the good care. We gotta make sure that the poor black kid in Harlem gets the same care as those fat cats on Wall Street." He & she will call for nationalizing health insurers and putting all doctors in federal civil service. The two grifters will advocate making things worse in order to presumably make it better.
In 2015-16, Michelle and Hillary will be locked in a vicious Democratic primary battle centered on who can best provide nationalized health, dental and long-term care. The GOP will hopefully have a candidate who can counter this madness, but at the moment, I do not know who.
The "Takers" won´t even notice if 800,000 workers get laid off. The "Takers" will still get all their Freebies. It won´t affect their lifestyle at all. Until the Free Phones, Food Stamps, Rent Subsidies, Free heat, and whatever else the government is giving out these days, stops...and we all know that won´t happen because Democrats do not want to upset their BASE...UNTIL it stops...nothing will upset the "Takers". They are growing by the day and by 2016, they will once again grow in numbers and they WILL VOTE to protect their FREEBIES! I don´t see how Republicans will EVER be able to fight their way back to being the Majority unless they come up with Bus loads of Illegals from some foreign country who would agree to vote Republican on election day because we provided them each with a $100 Bill after they vote!
The reason liberalism has continued so long in this country is they more or less left the golden goose alone while they found ways to nickle and dime it while thriving themselves. Then along comes Obama intent on destroying the golden goose, blowing $800 billion in stimulus and passing health that will cost $500 billion a year in totality with no way to pay for it.
People have conditioned themselves to survive without a job the past 4 years which is incredible in itself. I can´t think of a way to survive without a job, what´s the secret?
Obamacare is a disincentive to work if you can get free healthcare while doing nothing. If you file taxes, you´ll be paying a fine or premium you can´t afford. This means people will stop filing tax returns. If you have a $600 refund coming and the fine is $1200,then why file and fork out an additional $600?
They may get their majority. What will they do with it? If the past is any indication (and it always is), they will do nothing useful with it. They will appease their good friends across the aisle, they will shudder in fear at threatened but never carried out filibusters, and they will continue our decline. Fool me once.
"We can´t let the wealthy get the good care. We gotta make sure that the poor black kid in Harlem gets the same care as those fat cats on Wall Street." He & she will call for nationalizing health insurers and putting all doctors in federal civil service.
If this happens, how does this part of Obamacare pertain? Are we to assume those poor Congressman are not wealthy? If they weren´t when they got to Washington I would imagine most of them are by the time they leave, that is if they ever do leave. Then they can become a lobbyist.......!!!
> "Finally, it is specifically stated that this bill will not apply to members > of Congress."
If Obama and the Democrats thought ObamaCare would benefit the economy and make everyone happy, they wouldn´t have postponed its implementation until after the 2012 election.
And if they had thought raising taxes on the rich would also help the economy, they could have done so when the Democrats had a majority in Congress during Obama´s first two years in office.
So it isn´t only Republicans who believe ObamaCare and the repeal of the Bush tax cuts will hurt the economy, the Democrats have shown that they believe it, too.
In order to win the presidency and then re-election, Obama had to energize the Democrats´ liberal base with promises of free universal health care, etc., while stirring up class-warfare anger with promises of taxing the rich.
That´s why ObamaCare and the repeal of the Bush tax cuts will soon be upon us -- NOT because Obama and the Democrats thought they would be good for the country.
The GOP fools itself if it believes people will turn back to them just because of problems with Obamacare. Those who voted for Obama want to see some sort of coverage for those who can´t afford any type of insurance and those who have pre-existing conditions and have thus been forced out of the insurance market.
Medical pricing is horribly distorted by the current medical insurance system in the US. Those with good insurance get discount pricing because the insurance companies have negotiated large-scale discounts. The most expensive medical care is reserved for those who have no choice but to pay 100% out-of-pocket without access to those discounts. That causes people to avoid medical services until the situation is dire, at which time ER´s and hospitals are forced to care for much sicker individuals.
Thanks to obamacare I will be losing my health insurance on Jan, 1. My premiums were to double which would have been a third of my salary. One third going to taxes and another third going to taxes doesn´t leave much when you really don´t have a big paycheck to begin with. No raises for the past two years and probably none in the future.
The people that voted for Obama DON´T WANT JOBS. They want free stuff from the government because the world owes them.
No amount of job loss will do any good. I repeat, they don´t want jobs. They want to live in the projects having baby after baby and getting Obamaphones and groceries and healthcare from Uncle Sam OR living in their boomer parent´s basement forever playing games and watching TV and having mommy and daddy buy them everything from underwear to iPhones. They have no motivation, no incentive, no need to improve, no nothing. They are a generation of perpetual adolescent nothings hell bent on staying nothing and they see nothing wrong with being nothing. THESE nothings are the empty suit´s constituency and he is more than happy to drain us all dry to support these nothings for their votes until they and we die.
Unless the current GOP cleans up or is forced to do so, I am not interested in it becoming the majority party anymore. the #1 clean up issue is to get leadership that is totally loyal to the Constitution and is in resonance with the conservative grassroots and their ideology. Currently I don´t see anyone but Sarah.
The majority of the people out there who re-elected Obama believe that he is going to provide them with "free" health care and a lot of other taxpayer provided benefits and services.
As long as Obama tells them that he is doing "the best that he can" in the face of Republican intransigence, those people will come out again and vote for an Obama clone, or whoever Obama directs them to vote for in 2014-2016.
If these masses wanted more and more babies we wouldn´t be facing free abortions for all and more for the 47.5%. They want to revisit the free love for all era and no responsibility as taught them by the originals of the 60´s generation. perhaps when that group has passed on sanity may be back in style.
Just another 800,000 on Food Stamps and playing with their ØDumbø phones. We aren´t going to get back to majority party until only taxpayers are allowed to vote. And that could only happen with a revolution.
Yeah, right. And the leftist media has no power. We´ll get ´em next time.
I´m sick of it. We saw blatant fraud this time along with outrageous bias in the media and in the debate system. Has anyone in the GOP done a thing to combat it? Nope.
So, yeah, this is the thing that´s going to wake the Obama electorate up. Are you kidding? They´re stupid. They´re thralls to the Democrat party. They believe the Republicans brought up contraception and abortion and such in the election.
Until we get serious about exposing and combating/shaming fraud, we will never win another election they don´t want us to win.
Mr. Moran is disingenuous at best. When we gave the GOP the people to defund ObamaCare Moran was describing us as dirty fingernailed hicks who would never be accepted by GOP establishment. Moran is just filler between so-called elections.
implementation of Obamacare will hurt the Democrats, I agree but that isn´t the exact same thing as helping the Republicans. First, the Republicans will have to denounce Obamacare but with it becoming an entitlement, they won´t. And that leads me to Second, you can´t beat something with nothing. If the Republicans are not for Obamacare, what are they for?
I´m just so sick in my heart of reading and wanting to believe predictions that voters are capable of smartening up and changing the political direction of this country.
If Toby Harden´s piece in correct and GOP luminaries are stabbing Romney in the back, then the GOP is as rotten a political party as anything coming from the left. Gingrich and Santorium did an enormous amount of damage to Romney during the GOP primaries. There comes a point where a contender needs to put country before self and step aside. Too many GOP candidates don´t have the sense to do that. Todd Atkins was another one ...
Anyway, the point is that Obamacare was never meant to be a permanent system -- it is a segue to single-payer. The plan was always for a huge part of the population to pay nothing for "free" health care. For the remainder who pay taxes, a sizable percentage are poised to be dropped from their employers´ coverage. That will throw more people into the exchange system, thereby overwhelming it. Its pure Cloward-Pliven. With less employer-participation, independent employer health insurance systems will not be able to survive. As more people get thrown into the exchanges, the exchange system cannot provide the necessary volume of care. Before you know it, the only remedy is for single-payer. Mission accomplished.
The Congress has already foreseen this and made sure that they will never need to compete with the masses for their healthcare. The Congress also made exempt all federal judges and the upper echelon of the Executive branch.
Some words and phrases can best be defined by giving an example. The Yiddish word chutzpah is one -- what the Congress did in exempting itself and other blessed ones is the definition of "insult to injury."
Somewhere there´s a clever attorney. He/she will read the whoooooooole bill and find one little option out for each citizen....
Trust me -- I feel it happening -- just as the conservatives opted out from busing in Chicago and dropped the public school system here to last place.....The conservatives left and saved the private school system overnight.
WE opted out of that goooooberment debacle -- WE´ll opt out of this mess.
It´s time for a new party! I say call it The Free Party. The people who are for liberty will think it stands for freedom and the people who want free stuff will think it is for free stuff. Can´t lose!!
The bottom line is mass confusion. Please read Rules for Radicals and read the Port Huron Statement. Confusion is not the bottom line, it´s the goal and it worked beautifully November 6th. The GOP will remain blithering idiots about it even in 2014. The GOP will be blameless in this fiasco.
It’s hard to see how the elections of 2014-16 won’t severely damage the Democrats and make them a minority party for the foreseeable future. Really? It´s hard to see? Do you really think the blue electoral districts will be smarter with facts then than they were between 2008 and 2012? The GOP couldn´t open a bag of reality dust if it was opened for them, and it has been opened for them. Google Penn and Teller, cups and balls trick with clear cups and you have the American voter in a "nutshell" who will pick the empty clear cup knowing and seeing the ball in the other cup. Yes, they´re that stupid and they´ll willingly only get worse.
Don´t count on it. The liberals always come up with some crazy reason that its not their fault. They may just go back to blaming it on Bush. Hell, they fell for it before.
The Dems will just throw something out there, the MSM will get the high sign and start pounding it into the ignorant and gullible. The comedians will start making fun of the Rrpublicans for blaming the Dems and academia will be brainwashing the kids who cast their blind vote. Before its all over the jobless, the takers and the gullible will be convinced that another vote for the Dems will be in their best interests.
The real question is: who is our A team? Rubio? Rand Paul? Guiliani? Palin? Gingrich? Santorum? Will they tear each other apart? will competition force the best to rise to the top? And what about the fact that the people in power are already using our tax dollars to promote What Your Country Can do for You to the 47%.
A third party is more likely going to be the next majority party. The GOP has lost so much support after this past election from their base and everyone they disinter mediated in ensuring Romney was their candidate, and are unlikely to regain it.
If it votes like a Dem, we might as well elect a Dem.
FTA: "The Democrats will be forced to defend a law that caused a recession, significantly increased insurance costs to families, and brought many businesses to their knees. It’s hard to see how the elections of 2014-16 won’t severely damage the Democrats and make them a minority party for the foreseeable future." Yeah? How did that work for pinning the housing/banking crisis on the Dems, who were by far responsible for it? How did that work in defeating Dem senators this month who voted in favor of Obamacare as well as keeping their own Cadillac plan?
That is a question I have been asking too #22. Why did Congress exempt itself an all federal workers from Ocare? How is that equal protection under the 14th Amendment? Also, I believe one day when the full effects of Ocare begin to show themselves, a case can be made that Ocare is unconstitutional under the 8th Amendment`s `cruel and unusual punishment` clause.
Need we remind ourselves that Republican nominee this year promised to keep key parts of Obamacare intact, including the individual mandate and the prohibition of pre-existing condition denials? Or that his political career embraced big govt policies including massive bailouts and gun control? The article describes the Republican strategy: retaining power through perpetual opposition to another perpetual govt program. That´s how the two parties (actually a single great two-winged party) maintain hegemony.
As for the Constitutional analyses, don´tcha know? The Constitution doesn´t mean what it says; it means what the last Republican President´s Chief Justice says it says. Or did we all forget the role Republicans played in passing and affirming this law?
Far from certain as long as the liberal media continues to control the narrative. If the Dems mobilize in off year elections like they do during presidential elections...
Listen to the liberal media and: - The economy will be the result of the Republicans. - The Republicans are too conservative. - The Republicans are too moderate. - The Republicans don´t care about black rights, hispanic rights, women´s rights, and gay rights. - The Republicans will take away your free stuff.
Also add in the number of moderates that won´t vote conservative and vice versa.
For obvious copyright reasons I have to summarize what I read today in a forum which is basically run and populated by a number of Duke University faculty and staff who live in a neighborhood not far from the school.
One said Blue Cross/Blue Shield is about to raise their rates by 30%. Wanted to know if anyone in the group knew of an alternative with cheaper rates.
Another one basically said ditto and that those with BC/BS would have an expensive year until things change in 2014 when AFCA takes effect.
Seems they´re under the impression that Obamacare is going to be "free"or at least less expensive than BC/BS. These are definitely the well-paid liberal elites we know and loathe so well. If they all think this way--and I believe they do--then they´re in for a huge surprise. I don´t see them voting for anyone but another Democrat, though. They´re hard-core.
# 6 If 23 million un and underemployed ( plus the promise of the creation of 12 million new jobs ) couldn´t convince the Moron -Americans to vote Republican , the loss of another 800, 000 jobs won´t mean a thing.
Pop quiz. With whom is the U.S. presently at war? At any other time in our nation’s history most Americans could have readily answered that question. Great Britain. Mexico. Spain. Germany. North Korea. North Vietnam. Iraq. Even college students who couldn’t name the vice president or their state’s governor would know who their non-college-material buddies were being sent overseas to kill or be killed by. These days the world is a bit more complicated. There are the easy answers: the Taliban. Al Qaeda. Then the waters get a bit murky. One might justifiably ask if America is at war with Syria,
Sandra Fluke keeps sending me e-mails. Okay, these e-mails don’t actually contain the type of Weiner-esque Democratic electronic solicitations that are suitable for disclosure only on “The Dirty.” But her messages could be considered provocative. In her latest e-mail, she said she wants me to meet her for a “chat” in San Francisco. Actually, her e-mails are all about money. With a pretentiousness so blatant it’s entertaining, Fluke is trying to convince me to give money to Democratic candidates. Political fundraising is a permanent exercise and, obviously, lists are not always properly culled.
Life in Maine, where Stephen King has spent most of his adult years, requires long drives down country roads, time that King, whose mind is restless, likes to fill by listening to books on tape. In the ’80s, however, he sometimes could not find the books he wanted on tape — or maybe he just did not bother. He had three children: Naomi, Joe and Owen. They could read, couldn’t they? All King had to do was press record. Which is how his school-age children came to furnish their father, over the years, with a small library’s worth of books
John Kerry says he can get an Israeli-Palestinian peace agreement within nine months that would lead to an independent Palestinian state. That’s ambitious to be sure, but Kerry’s optimism raises a key question: With Syria torn by civil war, Egypt in the midst of a meltdown that may lead to another Arab civil war, and the Iranian nuclear program still the region’s major strategic threat, why is the secretary of state pushing the Israeli-Palestinian peace process? Perhaps with everyone else in the region tied down fighting for vital interests or mere survival, John Kerry imagines he has a unique opportunity
Texas has done a lot of good for this country: the King Ranch and Texas-style chili. Dr. Pepper and the Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders. Rick Perry and Ted Cruz. Patrick Swayze. Texas also gave America Sheila Jackson Lee. So let’s call it even. Since 1995, Jackson Lee (D.) has represented Texas’s 18th congressional district, which comprises much of inner-city Houston. Now at least one group on Capitol Hill is eyeing her for higher office: The Congressional Black Caucus is recommending that Jackson Lee replace Janet Napolitano as secretary of the Department of Homeland Security.
Several Republicans have become concerned recently about the possibility of intensified intra-party fighting over the effort to defund Obamacare. The topic came up Wednesday when GOP Sen. Ted Cruz, a leader in the defunding effort, appeared on Laura Ingraham’s radio program. At about 6:30 in the interview, Ingraham asked Cruz about the phrase “surrender caucus” that some have used to describe the Republicans who oppose the defunding effort. Cruz told Ingraham that he has never used the phrase himself to describe his opponents in the defunding debate. Cruz explained that his chief of staff, Chip Roy, did use the phrase,
To compete with those indelible images of Anthony Weiner’s erect penis, the New York City mayoral campaign now has new mental picture: the slutbag. That’s what Weiner spokeswoman Barbara Morgan called an intern with the campaign who had quit and written a tell-all for the New York Daily News. Olivia Nuzzi described the campaign as a adrift, Morgan as unqualified, and fellow interns as only taking on the assignment to get in good with Weiner wife and Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin. And that’s not all Morgan called Nuzzi in a conversation with a reporter for Talking Points Memo
President Barack Obama is planning to bypass congressional Republicans with a surge of executive actions and orders on issues like voting rights, health care, job creation, the economy, climate change and immigration. And this time, he really, really, really means it. Really. Obama’s started to sell his pitch to congressional Democrats, meeting with caucus groups at the White House and going to the Hill on Wednesday morning to speak with House and Senate Democrats. “I have to figure out what I can do outside of Congress through executive actions,” Obama told the Congressional Black Caucus earlier this month,
Voter identification laws have Democrats up in arms. One of the reasons, as Nate Cohn illustrated last week, is that they disproportionately affected non-white and Democratic voters in North Carolina. This effect, however, only would have padded Romney´s lead in the state by 0.5pt to 0.8pt. In other words, it would only have made a difference in the tightest of elections, and North Carolina isn´t close to being the state that determines the winner in presidential elections. If Democrats want to be upset about something, they should turn their attention to felon and ex-felon voting restrictions.
A nthony Weiner´s mayoral campaign has imploded. But before a raft of new revelations about Weiner´s post-Congress sexting misadventures, he had a real chance of becoming the next mayor of New York City. In the meantime, Eliot Spitzer — Weiner´s fellow New Yorker, whose fall from grace was also well-documented — still has a good shot at becoming the city´s next comptroller. Despite their baggage, both men began their campaigns with a headstart on the competition. That headstart was provided not because they showed an aptitude for success in their previous political positions.
CLEVELAND – Three women held captive in a run-down home for a decade kept diaries documenting the horrific physical and sexual abuse they suffered on a daily basis, prosecutors said Wednesday. The women´s kidnapper, Ariel Castro, lured one of them into his Cleveland home with the promise of a puppy for her son and later locked all of them in a vehicle in his garage for three days when someone visited him, prosecutors said. Castro, a former school bus driver, claimed he didn´t have an exit strategy from his complicated double life and finally gave the women
WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama´s national security team acknowledged for the first time Wednesday that, when investigating one suspected terrorist, it can read and store the phone records of millions of Americans. Since it was revealed recently that the National Security Agency puts the phone records of every American into a database, the Obama administration has assured the nation that such records are rarely searched and, when they are, officials target only suspected international terrorists. Meanwhile, at a hacker convention in Las Vegas on Wednesday, the head of the NSA said government methods used to collect telephone
Mark Levin, who hosts one of America´s top radio talk shows and is considered by supporters to be the people´s pundit on the Constitution, is rallying his 8.5 million-strong audience to demand an historic convention of state governments to halt the "oppressive power" of the federal government. The author of two New York Times bestsellers on the threats to the Constitution, Levin hopes his latest, "The Liberty Amendments," out mid-August, will spark the state lawmakers to tap a rarely used Constitutional provision to institute measures that would brake President Obama´s use of executive orders, bar thousand-page laws and
The former commander of special operations in Northern Africa told a closed-door briefing today that he was largely detached from events the night of the Benghazi attack as he was traveling at the time. The testimony of Col. George H. Bristol, USMC, Former Commander, Joint Special Operations Task Force-Trans Sahara, Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command Africa, had been eagerly anticipated by members of Congress. Originally, lawmakers had been told by the Defense Department that he had retired — the actual date is Aug. 1, an “administrative error” according to the Pentagon — and that they didn’t have
FORNEY, Texas - George Zimmerman, the former Florida neighborhood watch leader cleared of all charges in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, was pulled over for speeding in North Texas on Sunday, CBS DFW reports. According to the station, Zimmerman was armed when officers pulled him over on Highway 80 in Forney, east of Dallas. (Snip) The officer reportedly did not recognize Zimmerman, who was driving a Honda pickup. Zimmerman told the officer he was armed and was then told to put the weapon in his glove compartment, according to the station.
Arizona Sen. John McCain was the Republican Party´s 2008 presidential nominee and he still wants the keys to the Oval Office. But he is beginning to sound more like a fan of likely 2016 Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. "She´s a rock star," he said in a newly released interview. "She has, maybe not glamour, but certainly the aura of someone widely regarded throughout the world," he added in a reference to her work as secretary of State. McCain, reportedly trying to win back his reputation as a GOP maverick, was asked by the New Republic
Serial sexter Anthony Weiner’s wife partly blamed herself last year when her horndog husband confessed to her that he was at it again. Friends and family told People magazine that Huma Abedin was kicking herself at the time for bailing out of couples counseling and focusing more on their newborn baby boy. But, thanks to a new round of joint therapy that continues even now, the couple was able to put the relapse behind them. “They really became a unit, and she feels much closer to Anthony now,” a relative told the magazine. That’s a long way from how Abedin
President Obama has been rolling up his sleeves campaigning across the country delivering a surreal stump speech message supposedly aimed at the middle class: big government works, Obamacare is manna from heaven, the wave of recent scandals are “phony” figments of the imagination, and all economic problems are the fault of the Republicans. Conveniently, he leaves out the bankruptcy of Detroit, a city run by his own party for more than half a century. His message is so stale and unconvincing, that even The New York Times and Washington Post have noticed. Both papers, usually loyal to Obama, remarked that
Gotta figure her lead would be even bigger without Joe Miller in the field here. Her nomination for the taking? Alaska should be a top tier pick up opportunity for Senate Republicans next year…but their top choice of a candidate is Sarah Palin. 36% of GOP primary voters in the state say they’d like Palin to be their standard bearer against Mark Begich to 26% for Mead Treadwell, 15% for Dan Sullivan, and 12% for Joe Miller.
Embattled Internal Revenue Service official Lois Lerner and an attorney in the Federal Election Commission’s general counsel’s office appear to have twice colluded to influence the record before the FEC’s vote in the case of a conservative non-profit organization, according to e-mails unearthed by the House Ways and Means Committee and obtained exclusively by National Review Online. The correspondence suggests the discrimination of conservative groups extended beyond the IRS and into the FEC, where an attorney from the agency’s enforcement division in at least one case sought and received tax information about the status of a conservative group,
Colin Powell has admitted to exchanging ´very personal´ emails with a Romanian diplomat but denies having an affair with the much younger woman after a hacker threatened to release their intimate messages. The 76-year-old retired general told the Smoking Gun that he met Corina Cretu, 45, roughly 10 years ago when she was working as an assistant to the president of Romania. She is now a member of the European Parliament. ´After I left the Department of State in January 2005 we stayed in touch via email,´ he told TSG.
Sen. John McCain — a Democrat? There was confusion Wednesday after the Arizona Republican mistakenly strolled into President Obama’s meeting with Senate Democrats at the Capitol. The room full of Democrats — who happened to be meeting in the same room where the Senate GOP usually holds their weekly policy luncheons — erupted in applause and laughter as the former Republican presidential candidate made his entrance. As McCain, 76, walked out of the Dem-filled space, reporters pressed him as to why he stepped foot in the room.
In preparation for the release of Oscar-bait film The Butler, Forest Whitaker, Oprah Winfrey, and director Lee Daniels (Precious) sat down with Parade magazine. The film chronicles a butler (Whitaker) who works in the White House through seven administrations. Winfrey plays the butler’s wife. In the interview, Winfrey explained her sadness that so few Americans know about the history of the civil rights movement: “They don’t know diddly-squat. Diddly-squat.” She then said of the historic use of the n-word, “I always think of the millions of people who heard that as their last
If we learned anything about Barack Obama in his first term it is that when he starts repeating the same idea over and over, what´s on his mind is something else. The first term´s over-and-over subject was "the wealthiest 1%." Past some point, people wondered why he kept beating these half-dead horses. After the election, we knew. It was to propagandize the targeted voting base that would provide his 4% popular-vote margin of victory—very young voters and minorities. They believed. He won. The second-term over-and-over, elevated in his summer speech tour, is the shafting of the middle class. But
