Jackson Jr. shielding wife
Sun-Times [Chicago. IL], by Lynn Sweet

Original Article

Posted By:NorthernDog, 11/24/2012 11:34:32 AM

It looks like former Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-Ill.), who resigned Wednesday, is trying to take any potential heat off of his wife, Ald. Sandi Jackson (7th) — who is also his campaign manager. I’m told that Sandi Jackson has hired her own legal representation as her husband’s lawyers try to work out a deal in the ongoing federal probe of his campaign finances. It doesn’t take too much reading between the lines of Jackson’s resignation letter — unusually poignant — that he is telling the feds to blame him — and leave his wife out of it.

Comments:
She has been drawing a $5K/month ´salary´ as his ´campaign manager´ for years on end.

Disability, pensions amounting to $5 million and they will get off from jail time in some deal, somehow? Still getting congressional pay, she getting campaign pay? What schmucks Chicagoans are to put up with this?

Ever since this ´´scandal´´ broke, I wondered at how deeply Sandi might be involved. Part of the financial issue is that a lot of money was redirected from the campaign to a house remodel. And I couldn´t imagine JJII choosing draperies or granite countertops. IMHO, Sandi is in the thick of it.

And if Jr. had her on his campaign committee payroll, I would bet that there were others on that payroll.

Blacks may have been shut out of politics for a long time, but many of them know how to milk the political system quite well, hey?
Clyburn of S.C. has a family public relations firm. He makes out quite well, probably better than jackson jr.

lynn sweet. Do you suppose she´d call the resignation letter "poignant" if this was a GOP matter? Oh, sorry, that is a really dumb question. For any GOP member of Congress 1 percent as crooked as jackson would already be in prison for a long haul. But jackson is a black democrat. Therefore he will skate on prison and keep the millions he stole.

Obamacare enrollment push glosses

At Obamacare enrollment events around the state, recruitment organizers emphasize the positive reasons for buying coverage on the insurance marketplace, like staying healthy and getting financial assistance to help pay their monthly premiums. But there’s also the punitive side of the law: how much those who don’t enroll will have to pay at tax time next year. The deadline to enroll is coming fast — March 31 — and many people don’t realize they could be paying far more than the $95 flat fee talked about in the early days of the law, according to enrollment counselors, income tax preparation

As Americans have been learning in recent weeks, Russia sometimes has its own way of describing events—like when Vladimir Putin claimed on March 4, despite the presence of Russian troops on the ground, that he hadn’t invaded the Crimean region of east Ukraine. Then there’s the narrative about what is spoken in that invaded country: namely, the Ukrainian language. (Snip) The claim that Ukrainian isn’t a language has been one of the drumbeats of the Russian-Ukrainian relationship for centuries. It’s true that the distinction between a language and a dialect is notoriously slippery, often more about politics than mutual intelligibility

MOSCOW — With a referendum on secession looming in Crimea, Russia massed troops and armored vehicles in at least three regions along Ukraine’s eastern border on Thursday, alarming the interim Ukraine government about a possible invasion and significantly escalating tensions in the crisis between the Kremlin and the West. The announcement of the troop buildup by Russia’s Defense Ministry was met with an unusually sharp rebuke from Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany, who warned that the Russian government must abandon what she called the politics of the 19th and 20th centuries or face diplomatic and economic retaliation from a

Republicans won a nice victory in the Florida special congressional election yesterday, which the more gullible and/or excitable pundits are already overhyping. By now it’s settled on most people, including Democrats, that the loss of Alex Sink to David Jolly in Florida’s 13th Congressional District was, in the words of the New York Times, “devastating” to Democrats. It’s a district Ms. Sink carried in her unsuccessful race for governor against Rick Scott, a district that Barack Obama carried in his two elections, and a district that demographically now favors Democrats.
